ssarah_hei guys, do-release-upgrade for 17.10 to 18.04 still doesn't work?02:10
krytarikYes, it hasn't been opened for upgrade yet indeed.02:11
ssarah_Aight :) ty02:13
ssarah_https://jpg-cleaner.en.softonic.com/ <- you guys know if there is a sotware like this for linux?02:14

ssarah_i found it meanwhile, jpegoptim02:28
ssarah_but was looking for a more generic tool, for all media, mp4, avi, jpeg, mp3, to check if things are corrupted02:28
KeelerI am using an external Focusrite audio interface with Xubuntu 17.10. Everything works fine except when I run a libgdx app. With those I get little audio ticks and pops even when I run a simple app without sound. Any idea what could cause that? The same thing also happens with Linux Mint 18.3. And, I don't get any audio ticks and pops through my laptops built-in sound.03:16
SpassI know that's old stuff, but I want to know your opinion - I want to install 18.04 on my mother's old laptop, Celeron with 2 GB RAM, processor supports 64-bit, I can't decide what version to install there... any reasons for 32-bit?06:41
MoL0ToVi use ubuntu 16.04LTS why if i do: sudo do-release-upgrade says to me No new release found? ubuntu 18.04 is not available for upgrade?06:48
MoL0ToVafter some minutes of audio streaming the chrome audio become noise. is a bug?07:29
SpassMoL0ToV, if you're using 16.04 and have your release updates set to "For the long-term releases only" you will not get an upgrade until the point release 18.04.1 will be released (July)07:33
Spassyou can force an upgrade if you really need it, but it's not recommended07:33
MoL0ToVSpass, i only want to fix the firefox/chrome problem07:34
MoL0ToVfor example if i listen youtube, after some minuter the audio become noise when as a radio il not receiving signal07:35
Spassand the issue doesn't occur when you listen to music in some music application or watch a movie in a movie player? only in browsers?07:39
MoL0ToVSpass, only in browser, if i close and restart the browser the audio works07:43
MoL0ToVfor some minutes07:43
MoL0ToVthe problem exist in chrome and in firefox07:43
MoL0ToV[ 5794.627822] perf interrupt took too long (2535 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50000 in dmesg what means?08:48
antimistquick question, my xubuntu 18, does not have the grub as a package installed on apt08:56
antimistis this normal08:56
antimistSince, grub commands and the actual grub screen works fine08:56

well_laid_lawnnothings broken so best to smile and move on :)09:07
drb1Does the notification manager show up for any of you on the latest update? Mine isn't.09:12
knomedrb1, if you are following the LTS->LTS path, the upgrade isn't suggested to you yet, only after the .1 release09:35
knomeSpass, if the processor has 64-bit architecture, there is very little reason to use a 32-bit OS09:38
Spassyeah, you're right, I'll go with 64-bit09:39
EscimoSo yeah. I got 16.04 LTS, how do I make it upgrade to 18.04? I tried do-release-upgrade, not cigar10:18
knomeEscimo, read what i wrote 3 lines ago...10:19
EscimoAh, goddamnit, I keep forgetting about those point releases.. every damn LTS 🤦10:20
EscimoThanks knome. I tried reading chat history from this weekend. Didn't read chat logs from "just now" 😁10:22
knomeyou are excused... this time10:25

MoL0ToVon xfce xubuntu 18.04 when i disconnect a usb drive the warning message that says don't disconnect usb device writing in progress remains also after write is done14:59
MoL0ToVthis bug is known?14:59
fabioluciano@MoL0ToV this is not a bug15:05
MoL0ToVon other systems (16.94) the message remain only for few seconds, on 18.04 remains forever15:07
terasporahello ... I've never used IRC chat before but looking for support installing Xubuntu 18:04...15:11
akxwi-daveteraspora: best to ask your question and if anyone can hep they will answer15:14
fabioluciano@MoL0ToV the data is first write to ram "buffer" and after save to the usb device. To "force" the write to usb use the command sync. To verify what is pending use iotop15:15
terasporaFirst tried to upgrade from 17.04.  Used do-release-upgrade with -d flag.  This seemed to succeed after downloading >1GB packages, rebooted but no video.  Then tried a fresh install from the ISO.   Validated the MD5 checksum.  Installing on a modern 4-core Intel I7 laptop with 8GB RAM; tried 2 different USB sticks, tried with UEFI on and off.15:17
fabioluciano@teraspora the "no video" situation occours before or after the grub? You can enter some commands or nor?15:20
terasporaEvery time the same: if I have no external monitor plugged in, at an early point the screen goes black and nothing more happens.   With an external monitor, the video starts on the laptop screen, thenthe monitor comes on, both showing the splash screen with Xubuntu logo in the middle, then the laptop screen goes off.   I can continue on the external monitor until I have to click "Change" for the partitioning menu.   Then all butt15:20
terasporahappens.15:20
fabiolucianoYou probably have problems with you graphical card and Xorg.15:21
terasporayes I can enter commands.   Already tried nomodeset.15:21
fabiolucianoyou syslog shows anything?15:22
terasporaIt's a modern Nvidia with 1GB15:22
terasporayes I think the video issue is to do with the graphics15:23
fabiolucianowhich version of nvidia package are you using?15:24
terasporawhich version of nvidia package?  Well, isn't the driver supposed to be on the xubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso?15:25
terasporaI can boot the boot-repair iso fine and it displays fine on both monitors15:26
terasporaThanks for your help#fabioluciano :)15:27
terasporaI figured if I can get it installed ok I can install the latest nVidia driver thereafter15:29
terasporaBut how to get past clicking "Change" in order to specify a root partition?  BTW I CAN get a terminal window instance.   Anything I can do from there?15:31
vivuswhat theme does xubuntu 14.04 use?16:37
Spassvivus, same as now, Greybird GTK and elementary-xfce icons17:14
drb1I know, too late, though, I couldn't wait. Guess I'll have to wait until .1 rolls around in July17:35
vivusSpass: do you know what is: vertex-maia ?17:56
Spasstheme in Manjaro?17:58
vivusSpass: yes.17:58
vivusI dont see greybird as an option17:58
Spassso you're using Manjaro and you want to set a Greybird theme on it? it's probably available in the repos if you don't see it on your themes list, or you can download it from GitHub18:03
flocculantand I assume that manjaro have support options too - use those18:04
vivusyeah ill ask in their channel. just wanted to confirm the name here. ty18:11
elvin_preslerHello, has anyone found a good way to deal with gksu being removed in 18.04? Some programs don't work with admin:// and some like system-config-samba still try to start with gksu and won't run.20:17
fabioluciano@elvis_presler, i dont think that this is valid, but https://itsfoss.com/gksu-replacement-ubuntu/20:26
fabiolucianoyou already tried... sorry20:26
elvin_preslerYeah, and system-config-samba still starts with the command in the menu shortcut as gksu system-config-samba and no amount of adding -pkexec and the like by me would make it work.20:30
elvin_preslerguess I will just stay away from 18.04 for a while.20:31
ZeiothI don't have the option to zip files on right click21:45
Zeioththere's any way to have it back?21:46
IhrFusselCtrl + - makes the font smaller in the terminal...how can I increase it again?23:13
knomectrl++?23:13
IhrFusselknome, it wasn't like that in Xubuntu 16.04 ... I need ctrl + - for nano23:15
IhrFusselAny way to disable that feature?23:16
IhrFusselctrl+shift+- seems to work in nano ... was it always like that? I don't think I had to hold down shift before to use the "jump to line" feature in nano23:42
