[04:17] I like rysnc [04:17] for that [04:21] well_laid_lawn: rysnc is it a terminal application only or a graphical too? [04:21] I only know it as a terminal app [04:22] someone might have built a gui interface for it somewhere ... [04:23] grsync is in the repos [04:24] well_laid_lawn: as far I can see it is already installed on my system by default. Is it recommended to install Grsync too to have a graphical interface ? [04:24] you can try it and see [04:24] you wanted a gui - so I told you what it was - up to you to decide whether to use it or not :) [04:26] ok thanks. does rsunc can back both files and /home configuration so i can backup my system when i will clean install 18.04 ? [04:26] you have to tell it what to back up [04:26] but it can access the dot files in /home/you [04:29] ok, i hope so, because the main reason i want to backup my system is to make more simple the clean installation of the new system under 18.04 and mainly the same configuration [04:30] that should be easy enough [04:30] s/easy/reliable/ [04:31] ok, thank you for your help [04:32] cheers [07:20] Hello. With my fresh install of 18.04, I have noticed that my customized Numix theme has issues with the menus bar in alot of programs. I thought that perhaps I should re-tweak the latest version of Numix instead. This has almost been successful, except I haven't been able to locate the menu bar background color setting.only affects some programs. I'm assuming that it boils down to a difference between gtk2 and gtk3, and [07:20] I'm still digging for clues, but I thought I would see if anyone here is familiar with gtk2/3 theming, and could perhaps give me some clues. [07:21] what package to install to get a preview of raw-images in thunar?? [07:22] programs that continue to have the old menu bar color are, Firefox, Thunderbird, Terminal, Synaptic [07:25] nova_: Just to make sure, you are in fact grabbing the source and rebuilding sass? [07:25] pragomer1: tumbler-plugins-extra [07:26] unit193: sorry im not sure what you mean [07:27] Numix's source needs ruby-sass to recompile, if you're trying to modify the generated theme you're doing it wrong. [07:28] I just copied /usr/share/themes/Numix to /usr/share/themes/Numix-Tweaked and starting tweaking it [07:28] OK, yeah. That'd be editing the generated theme. [07:28] so i should find numix on git and clone it and go from there? [07:28] Or the releases, but yeah I'd recommend that. [07:29] Heh, I too have edited Numix to make it darker, make the borders smaller, and changed the highlight color. :) [07:30] my changed to the xfwm part of it work fine, and i think my changed to gtk-2.0 gtkrc worked too, but i think it's gtk-3.0 that is still an issue. [07:30] Thank you very much Unit193 : tumbler-plugins-extra worked super for me ! [07:30] pragomer1: Great! [07:30] yeah im actually making all the borders thicker because i can't get on board with the new ways to resize windows [07:30] and im making it darker too, (#2d2d2d) [07:30] That is, the padding around everything was annoying. [07:30] nova_: In that case, perhaps take a look at my patch? [07:31] sure I can take a look [07:31] I use a 40 inch TV for a monitor so I like to have nice thick easy to grab borders [07:33] https://launchpad.net/~unit193/+archive/ubuntu/test/+files/numix-gtk-theme_2.6.7-3vanir1~18.04.debian.tar.xz should be in debian/patches/(3001-lower-padding.patch,3002-darker.patch,3003-red-highlights.patch) though you won't need that last one. [07:33] (Since you're touching the same areas for changing the color, though you want borders and I changed padding.) [07:34] thank you ill take a look at it [07:34] I do hope it helps. [07:34] heres and example what I have so far, and the troublesome menu bar [07:34] https://pasteboard.co/HjAkGpZ.png [08:09] Unit i've looked over your color change patch and your work looks pretty awesome, but I'm not familiar with patching. I'm also not sure that i need to make quite so many changes at this point. The xfwm changes I've already made, in fact I was just able to copy over my previous changes, the gtk2 changes seem to have worked...it's just the gtk 3.0 and potentially 3.20 part i need to tweak. I'm wondering if I can just add a [08:09] couple css directives to the gtk-3.0/gtk.css below the "@import url("resource:///org/numixproject/gtk/dist/gtk.css");" line [09:07] hello [09:08] I am having trouble moving my screens in Display [09:09] they all overlap and I cannot re-arrange them [09:10] I did not have this issue with 17.10 [09:15] drb1: what are you using to arrange the displays ? [09:15] oops [10:10] so I'm having trouble with mur i guess? [10:11] I believe now is the time [10:25] I tried to give my favorite gui text editor root powers with pkexec, after creating a .action file to allow it to work, it still stopped with a suggestion that it was a bad idea, but offered a way to still continue in spite of the warning. Is there any right way to use a gui text editor to make changes with root privledges? [10:26] I would love to have a context menu option to open with Notepadqq as root in Thunar === Aerys_ is now known as Aerys === Aerys is now known as RaghuramE [14:35] hey does xubuntu have a launcher/applist integrated dock thing? [14:36] pmjdebruijn: the xfce panel does that by itself [14:36] one of the panel presets has it pre configured as well [14:39] you mean via Xfce Panel Switch? [14:39] if so which? [14:40] I meant like the OSX/Unity dock functionsi [14:40] plank [14:40] so an launcher is also the window list [14:41] you can add an extra panel and add launchers to it [14:41] it's the integration i'm looking for [14:41] you can make it so the panel auto hides, smartly or generally [14:41] nah [14:41] lapaga: plank seems nice [14:41] docky has a bit of a horrible dependancy thing going on [14:42] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3KiwoOxfkg [14:43] there is trully no need for any application beyond the panels [14:43] that install awn? [14:46] I don't see that video demonstrated the integration actually [14:46] I'll take another look later today :) [14:51] oh, you mean like dockbarx? pmjdebruijn? https://github.com/M7S/dockbarx [14:51] it's not a default application however [14:51] so no support is given for any damage it might cause to your system [16:35] lightdm is annoying, wrong resolution and wrong monitor...does anybody know how to fix double monitor + lightdm? [16:41] hycer: Basically, you make some xrandr script which makes the alignment and default however you prefer, then put that into /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as something akin to: display-setup-script=/path/to/xrandrcommand.sh [17:35] On Display Settings, what the option Primary display should do? [17:36] FurretUber: It should make that monitor the default one apps open up on, as well as the place taskbar gets placed first [17:37] taskabar/panel/default DE interface interaction mechanism [17:37] Hmmm... I think the option is not working [17:40] The hint is working for the LibreOffice splash, but xfce4-panel ignores it [17:47] The windows open depending on which screen the mouse cursor is. The only thing that uses the Primary display setting is the LibreOffice splash screen, everything else ignores the option [18:24] Apparently xfce4-panel detects the option but in a improper way: the monitor where the panel is is the one most in left or above all others. xfce4-panel detects the "Primary display" by positioning the desktop icons. If the "Primary display" is not the one where the xfce4-panel is, the panel covers the desktop icons [19:01] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/+bug/1769247 [19:01] Launchpad bug 1769247 in xfce4-settings (Ubuntu) "xfce4-display-settings "Primary display" option does not work properly" [Undecided,New]
