lordievaderGood morning05:57
diogenes_Good morning06:03
lordievaderHey diogenes_06:04
sajhbrhello. I just installed 18.04 and I'm having the plasma bug where loading icon spins very fast with high CPU usage06:26
sajhbrI'm using intel GPU with proprietary nvidia drivers06:27
hateballsajhbr: intel GPU with nvidia drivers sounds like it wouldnt work so well06:34
sajhbrbut nvidia kills my battery06:35
sajhbrI'm only getting 2 hours06:35
sajhbrI've heard even if I chose intel, nvidia is still powered on. Is this true?06:36
sajhbrfor a laptop with dual graphics06:36
diogenes_sajhbr, no it is not true06:37
sajhbrso if I use 'prime select intel' it'll only use intel GPU?06:38
diogenes_sajhbr, yes, but the best way to use that kind of setup is bumblebee06:38
hateballIs bumblebee even supported any more? It's a hack to begin with06:39
sajhbrbumblebee has a lot of bugs for my laptop (dell 7559) :/06:39
diogenes_like what?06:39
sajhbrI don't mind being able to use only iGPU as long as I get good battery06:39
sajhbrUnable to boot or something like that until I dive deep into config parameters06:40
sajhbrI visited bubmblebee website and went link diving, finally led to github page where someone with the same laptop posted a workaround06:41
diogenes_you probably didn't configure it properly but once configured right, you got no rpoblems06:41
Mrokii_Is there a way to update the "Devices"-List in Dolphin? The reason is that quite often my mobile phone, connected via KDE Connect, doesn't appear there, even after sending a ping. If it doesn't appear in the devices list I have no way to actually access the files. Or is there another way?06:52
operator-errorMrokii_: Is either your phone or computer connected to a VPN?06:53
operator-errorMrokii_: IIRC, both devices have to be on the same subnet to see one another.  If either device is tunneling to another network (like a VPN), then they can't connect.06:56
Mrokii_operator-error: True, my Desktop is currenctly connected to a VPN. Okay, thanks, for the clarification. I will try to disconnect from the VPN and see if it works then.06:58
Mrokii_Need to reconnect here as well. brb.06:59
Mrokiioperator-error: KDE connect still says that there are no paired devices available, even though I'm disconnected from the VPN.07:02
operator-errorMrokii: is your phone connected to the same network (via WiFi) as your computer?07:03
MrokiiYes.07:03
operator-errorHmmm... well that is strange07:03
operator-errorThe only time I've ever had an issue with my phone and computer not seeing one another was when one of them was connected to a VPN07:04
MrokiiAnd even though the popup say there are no paired devices, when I open the System Settings Module, it is shown as "paired". Very weird.07:04
MrokiiBut it doesn't show up in Dolphin, or anywhere else, as far as I can see.07:05
MrokiiI can't say for sure, but I think I wasn't connected to a VPN each time this problem appeared. It happens quite regularly for me.07:06
MrokiiSo much so that I will probably look for alternatives again. Quite annoying problem.07:07
operator-errorMrokii: Hmm, I'm not sure what to make of that.  Was there a time in the past when the two devices could see one another?07:07
Mrokiiyes, but it's random when it's working. Often it does, but regularly it doesn't.07:08
MrokiiThe last time it worked was maybe two or three days ago.07:09
MrokiiOkay... I unpared it on the desktop and used the Phone-App to manually reconnect. That seemed to do the trick. It's there now in Dolphin.07:11
operator-errorStill strange that you would have to do that just to get it working again but, hey, if it's working now it's working :)07:12
Mrokiiyeah. :)07:16
MrokiiSometimes it works automatically, but if not I at least know now how to give it another try.07:17

AlexZionHi everyone, I would like to install Kubuntu 18.04 on my laptop with nvidia optimus tech, someone here has already test it ?13:47
BluesKaj!optimus13:49
ubottuUbuntu uses nvidia-prime to support optimus videocards.13:49
BluesKajAlexZion,^13:49
AlexZionHi BluesKaj so it means using nvidia proprietary driver ?13:50
BluesKaj!nvidia-prime | AlexZion13:52
BluesKaj!info nvidia-prime | AlexZion13:52
ubottuAlexZion: nvidia-prime (source: nvidia-prime): Tools to enable NVIDIA's Prime. In component main, is optional. Version 0.8.8 (bionic), package size 8 kB, installed size 50 kB13:52
BluesKajAlexZion, it will install the driver from ubuntu-drivers-common which I assume will be the recommended nvidia proprietary driverr which will be controlled by you thru the nvidia xserver settings gui that will install with the driver13:55
BluesKajAlexZion, nvidia-prime is normally installed by default13:57
AlexZionthanks BluesKaj, but searching on the web I see a lot of negative comment that's why I'm asking here if someone is using it13:57
BluesKajlike  I said AlexZion , you have to install the recommended driver then control your optimus system with the nvidia gui in kmenu>settings13:59
hateballAlexZion: generally optimus is a pain, thats why there are negative comments14:01
hateballthat said, you should be able to get it working with nvidia blob + nvidia-prime14:01
BluesKajfrankly AlexZion, optimus is not as well configured in linux as it is in windows14:01
AlexZionI understand BluesKaj and if it works in a stable way should be enough, I'm so worry about it because the laptop I ant to reinstall is the one I sue daily to work, so I cannot risk to have an unstable machine14:02
BluesKajthe laptop will be stable if you use the nvidia driver exclusively, but your battery will  just need to be recharged more often14:03
AlexZionhateball: I know is a pain, I'm using it since years, right now I'm running a Kubuntu 14.04 with bumblebee and it works pretty well even with some problem once in a while14:04
* lordievader confirms optimus is a pain 😭14:04
BluesKajoptimus is a dumb system IMO, even on windows14:04
BluesKajI heard about newer version of bumblebee is out there, but I don't think it's well supported anymore either14:06
AlexZionUnfortunatelly I don't have so much space to make other partition otherwise would be nice to keep this installation and install 18.04 on other partitions, may should I remove my dvd an put an SSD instead14:08
hateballAlexZion: it should at least work nicer on 18.04, but I dont think bumblebee is supported any longer14:08
hateballBut I could be wrong !14:09
BluesKajhateball, i haven't heard of many users using bumblebee on newer 'buntus14:10
IrcsomeBot<weltimeister> Hi hateball! Unfortunately using balooctl did not help. Do you have another idea?14:17
AlexZionmaybe should I consider to buy one of this and add an extra SSD instead of my dvd to install 18.0414:18

hateballweltimeister I am afraid not, for me it has usually "just worked" after doing that14:23
hateballI dont know of any other way to reset baloo14:23
hateballweltimeister, seems you can "balooctl disable" and then remove ~/.local/share/baloo14:24
hateballand then I suppose if you balooctl enable, it should rebuild everything again14:25
IrcsomeBot<weltimeister> Thank you very much! I will try that later today. 😊14:49

IrcsomeBot<bauchhaus> Hello! I was wondering if there is a way to increase the space where windows can be resized. It just seems to be one pixel and it's really difficult to find that spot with a hdpi screen and a fast trackpad.19:23
genii@bauchhaus System Setttings.. Appearance - Application Style ...Window Decorations ( in the left pane) ... Border size ( bottom right )19:34
IrcsomeBot<bauchhaus> I only have Widget Style and GNOMW Application Style (GTK) in Application Style20:16
IrcsomeBot<bauchhaus> genii: Typed "Window Decorations" in the general OS search and found it. Nothing happens until 'Large'. I kind of liked to have no visible borders visually, I wished there was a way to only have a larger (invisible) area where the window edge turns the pointer into the resize tool, but without changing the appearance.20:29
geniikmag might work to make the existing small border large enough to see and grab easily20:32
genii( although I have not tried this myself )20:33
=== omar_ is now known as omar__
=== omar__ is now known as omar1976
IrcsomeBot<bauchhaus> kmag is not what I want and it also doesn't show the mouse pointer changing it's symbol.  … So there is no way to only set the grabbable area without changing the appearance and no way to change the style to get a compromise between 'normal' (0 pixel) and large (4 pixel). Right?20:45
