faahierohi guys! good night!22:59
aloo_shuafaik the highest supported ardour version in ubuntu is 4.623:33
aloo_shuI can see why want wants to void the buggy 5 series23:34
aloo_shu*avoid23:34
aloo_shubut why noth 4.7, the latest release in the 4 series?23:34
aloo_shu*why one wants23:35
aloo_shuomg, my concentration for writing english seems at 023:35
ErichEickmeyer18.04 has 5.12.23:37
aloo_shuoh has it?23:44
aloo_shuI had done a pkg search, ErichEickmeyer and not found anything higher than 4.6, might have tried a week to early, let's repeat23:47
aloo_shuanyway, I still would like to know why the choice for 16.04 stayed at 4.6, not 4.7 - I am trying to put an environment with a "old but stable" philosophy together, that's why I'd be interested to know the reasons23:47
ErichEickmeyerIt hasn't been backported. Ubuntu takes a "frozen repo" approach, and the newer software is found in newer versions of the OS. This is for the "old but stable" philosophy, yes. Our users that want the latest and greatest typically upgrade to the latest version of the OS, which as of a month ago was 18.04.23:53
ErichEickmeyeraloo_shu: You're not going to find 5.12 in any Ubuntu repo older than 18.04.23:53
ErichEickmeyerMuch of our software also comes from a snapshot sync from Debian, so there's that too.23:54
ErichEickmeyerOvenWerks: Do you have any better explanation for 16.04 being held at 4.6 instead of 4.7?23:54
aloo_shujust found out23:55
aloo_shuso there is no other reason that xenial stops at 4.6 than that this was the moment when the repos got 'frozen'?23:55
ErichEickmeyerPretty much, and that 4.7 was never backported.23:55
aloo_shurelated: does anybody (apart from falktx/kxstudio) do inofficial backporting?23:56
ErichEickmeyerThat's something we're looking into, much like how Kubuntu unofficially backports using a PPA.23:57
OvenWerksthere is a 5.0 for 15.0423:57
aloo_shu15.04 was great23:57
ErichEickmeyerSo, therefore, shouldn't 5.x be in 16.04?23:57
aloo_shuthe only 'odd' one I tried23:57
OvenWerksfingers moved... 16.0423:57
ErichEickmeyerAh.23:57
aloo_shubut ardour did a mad run of features over bugfixes in the 5 series23:58
OvenWerkshttps://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/dev-testing23:58
OvenWerksthat is not true. there were thousands of bug fixes through the 5.* series23:58
OvenWerksArdour devs in general invite people to not use the 4.* series because of bugs23:59
aloo_shue.g. there was a bug of crash when c & p ing regions that didn't get fixed until 5.9 or 5.1023:59
OvenWerks18.04 has 5.1223:59
