The live USB was crashing after a few time, I tried with "nomodeset" and it was working (I gave a nvidia GTX 1050m gpu). I upgraded my 17.10 kubuntu on my pc to 18.04 and the system won't start. nomodeset gives the same result. I can switch to another windo (ctrl+alt+f2) and logon in text mode, I updated, tried removing nvidia, reinstalling drivers, and always the same, no graphics display. [10:19] nouveau drivers won't work either [11:25] Hey folks === don is now known as Guest46701 === Guest46701 is now known as db === db is now known as Guest17371 === Guest17371 is now known as dab === dab is now known as dryes === dryes is now known as donb === donb is now known as db_ === db_ is now known as _db_ [15:19] is there not a netboot for kubuntu, or just use the ubuntu image for that? My system doesnt get along with my usb keyboard, OR my TV-turned-monitor until it's past the POST stage, so I'd rather be able to just add this to my existing grub2 (i'm currently using fedora, and am going to try (k)ubuntu to see if civ5-native works there. it doesnt here) [15:21] I've preferred KDE to gnome for a long time. like.. back when gnome was just still gnome-panel :P [15:27] how to use custom include paths in cmake/kdevelop === gianni is now known as Guest72448 [16:11] ciaooooo === Guest72448 is now known as gianni__ [16:11] ciaooo [16:12] list [16:29] !list | gianni__ [16:29] gianni__: BluesKaj: No warez here! [18:05] anqxyr: what I do is i use alt+tab and the desktop comes back, what you see as frozen is not the desktop, but actually the frozen game window, when you wait for sometime with the frozen window, it will load after sometime [18:05] nah, this happened with windowed games [18:05] the game itself works fine [18:05] other programs work fine [18:06] the toolbar "works", but doesn't update [18:06] so if I click on some place in it, it'll open the program I clicked on as it should, but not necessarily the one that was show to be on toolbar in that place [18:06] I do like this, first lauch the game, game freezes, I press alt+tab, I can see the desktop, then I switch to the frozen game, I see hdd led activity, I wait for sometime, then game loads [18:09] anqxyr: does this happen with any non steam games? [18:09] I don't have any to try [18:09] anqxyr: 0 ad? [18:11] * anqxyr shrugs [18:11] I'll find something and try it later [18:11] have to go now, sorry [18:11] ok === garlic is now known as garlic_ === olivier is now known as Guest3775 [19:40] Hi. My inegrated audio is damaged, so I've been using some crappy PCI soundcard for the last couple of months and I recently found an old but possibly less crappy Creative SoundBlaster live. I've seen it listed in the PCI devices section in hardinfo, but I couldn't get audio output, as if it wasn't recognized although it seemed to use the kernel module snd_emu10kx. I just rebooted and I can no longer see it in hardinfo, so I'll reseat the PCI card, brb... [19:51] oh, that's all that was needed [19:52] A good rubbing with some isopropyl alcohol on the PCI connector and reseating [19:54] It's very cool that it just works and it's even used by default. Thanks :) [20:38] using 16.04.4 LTS, i've got a strange bug that wasn't there last time i booted up. i have two panels, one on bottom and one on the left. the left-side panel has windows go under it instead of next to it. i can move it to the right, or i can have the windows go over instead, or it can hide, but it refuses to do 'always visible' properly on the left side. [20:38] all the stuff i found searching is hella old; like from 2008 to like 2015 at latest. [20:38] the thing is i haven't updated anything before having this happen that i noticed [20:46] Hg200: you might look in ~/.config or ~/.local and see if you can find the file that controls that [20:46] they are just text files and can be edited [20:47] vegii: good to hear some alcohol was the cure [20:47] that sometimes isn't the case in life [20:47] :-) [23:09] valorie: ah, thanks [23:31] i was just having our weekly D&D game so i wasn't checking irc when you replied [23:32] ..i need to open up the config files i guess and mess with it. i'd swear i've had this issue before and fixed it but that was years ago and a different version [23:32] they aren't too much trouble to edit [23:33] easier than when they were in ~/.kde [23:33] but sometimes you have to hunt in both config and local
