HUGO-HQLHi. I have problem with the following message "pwm-lpss invalid resource"04:56
HUGO-HQLI can only enter error mode04:57
cerebrainhi guys, I'm really new to Ubuntu-flavors and I want to migrate completely from w707:37
cerebrainso I'm looking for a good media player07:37
cerebraini was searching and found out that mpv is most recommended07:37
Unit193mpv or vlc, or even the default of parole?07:37
cerebrainsearching more, I saw a nice one that it's based on libmpv07:38
cerebrainit's called mpc-qt07:38
cerebrainnow, I'm trying to install it to see how well it does07:38
diogenes_cerebrain, smplayer is one of the best07:38
cerebrainthanks diogenes, I'll install it too07:38
cerebrainwant to try a couple that i'm interested in07:39
cerebrainto decide then07:39
cerebrainbut well, the point is that07:39
cerebrainmpc-qt guide tells me that I should have some libraries installed before I start the process07:39
diogenes_cerebrain, install also smplayer skins which is a separate package and sometimes doesn't get installed by default07:39
cerebrainso I went into packages.ubuntu07:39
cerebrainand I'm trying to install some libraries but when I run the command on the terminal07:40
cerebrainit says that it couldn't find the packages07:40
cerebrainso my question is07:40
cerebrainhow can I know the proper package name of the library? since i'm pretty sure that's my mistake07:40
cerebrain-this is one of the libraries i'm trying to install https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/qtcreator-07:41
diogenes_cerebrain, mpc-qt is not present in the default repositories so it wouldn't be recommended to install it07:41
cerebrainI have been reading some commentaries made on github about the project and, so far, it doesn't present a lot of problems07:42
diogenes_if you using packages from github then you should learn a lot about compilling stuff07:43
cerebrainno offense there, but by that logic I should keep old versions of my software because Ubuntu takes quite a while to add them to the default repositories07:43
cerebrainI mean, qbittorrent on the repositories it's on 4.0.3 but 4.1.1 was released not so long ago (after 4.1.0 and 4.0.4)07:44
cerebrainI'm trying so, could you give me some resources if possible? I'm genuinely interested in learning that :D07:45
diogenes_cerebrain, there are two types of linux distros: stable and rolling, xubuntu is stable so you don't expect the newest bleeding edge software to run on a stable distro, you get only what's well tested and bug fixed so you can use it without any crashes or bugs, if you wanna use the absolutely newest versions of the software, you should pick a rolling or testing branch of linux distros but in that case you have to be ready07:47
diogenes_to meet a lot of bugs, unstable work, crashes and headache and you have to be very experienced in order to debug and fix some of the bugs.07:47
cerebrainyou're right, diogenes_07:50
cerebrainbut, taking that aside for a moment07:51
cerebraincould you help me with the libraries thing?07:51
diogenes_provide the link to github page07:52
cerebrainhttps://github.com/cmdrkotori/mpc-qt#prerequisites07:53
diogenes_so which libraries you have troubles with?07:54
cerebrainI haven't tried installing none of them except qtcreator, which can be found here https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/qtcreator07:55
cerebrainI try to run the command sudo apt-get install qtcreator 4.5.2-3ubuntu2 (and many other combinatorios including "_", etc)07:56
cerebrainI'm sure I'm writing it wrong, so my question is: how do I know the packages names?07:57
cerebrainI tried with the brackets, without the brackets, including the [universe], without it too. But none of this works.07:59
diogenes_cerebrain, to install all the libraries you run: sudo apt install qtcreator qt5-default libqt5x11extras5-dev qttools5-dev-tools libmpv-dev08:00
diogenes_no need for any magic08:00
cerebrainQuick question08:00
cerebrainwhy it doesn't work with apt-get?08:00
cerebrainI found that "problem" a couple of times08:01
cfhowlettapt-get has been deprecated.  learn to use apt.  man apt will teach you the details08:01
diogenes_because it was replaced with apt08:01
cerebrainI just did an installation using apt-get like, yesterday08:03
cerebrainguys, I'm sure it seems like i'm retarded and I'm sorry but, I'm trying to learn so... sorry for bothering that much08:04
cfhowlettit's been deprecated.  over time, it will be completely disabled.  use apt.08:04
cfhowlettand no one here thinks ill of you08:04
cerebrainthank you, cfhowlett08:06
cerebraini'm looking for documentation on apt08:06
cfhowletthappy2help!08:06
cerebrainso i catch up08:06
cfhowlettterminal time:        man apt08:06
cerebrainwow08:07
cerebrainthx08:07
cerebrainthe terminal sure is powerful08:07
cfhowlettdon't forget!   with great power ...08:08
cerebraincomes great responsability :-D08:08
cfhowlettindeed.  everything the gui does can be accomplished on the terminal as well.08:09
cerebraini'll look documentation on using the terminal08:10
cerebrainit seems interesting to be able to do everything from writing commands08:10
cerebraininstead of clicking08:11
cfhowlettyou will certainly learn more from gettting some mastery of the termninal08:11
cfhowlettcerebrain, as stated previously, change apt-get to apt         all other commands should still work, IIRC  https://files.fosswire.com/2008/04/ubunturef.pdf08:13
