eloxHello. Is there a good guide as how to manually install a  juju-controller for a maas cloud without having to perform a "juju bootstrap" process from the API. E.g. I have a node already installed and just want to connect it to a maas.08:16
zinhello13:49
CRhowdy, I am starting up trying to use MAAS and I have a node that has trunked ports connected to it, I am able to get it to PXE boot by setting the VLAN in the NIC's PXE options and starts loading the OS but it does not get a DHCP address in the OS.  I have the VLAN ID in the VLAN config in MAAS and also tried just passing vlan=vlan830 in the kernel boot options.13:49
CRAm I missing something?13:50
roaksoaxCR: pxe boot process doens't use tagged interfaces13:51
roaksoaxCR: so if your PXE is happening on a VLAN, there should be switch port configured with that vlan so the interface doens't have to be tagged (e.g. eth0.830)13:52
roaksoaxCR: dunno if that's what you were asking13:52
CRso it gets the PXE image, it's getting that far and gets the initrd images, it's once it hits hte "IP-Config" part13:53
roaksoaxright, so the image itself doens't get dhcp ?13:56
roaksoaxCR: maybe the hardware you are using is a hardware for which the drivers are not available13:56
CRIt's a Dell R910 w/ Broadcom NICs13:57
CRroaksoax: I see IP-Config: eno1 hardware address 78:2b:cb:xx:xx:xx mtu 1500 DHCP RARP13:59
CRand then times out13:59
roaksoaxCR: i would suggest you grub console logs13:59
roaksoaxs/grub/grab13:59
CRroaksoax: is that an option in maas or somewhere else?14:07
roaksoaxCR: no, i mean the console logs from the server's serial console14:17
CRroaksoax: it appears I need to do something similar to the fix described in here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1382054  Is there a way to pass a VLAN to the initramfs with the standard MaaS setup?14:37
roaksoaxCR: that is a feature request in the initrd it seems14:52
CRroaksoax: it would be very useful, our use case is we have a bunch of former VMware ESXi we would like to try out MaaS on and their ports are all configured as trunk ports and it would be a lot easier to boot them and pass the VLAN tag to them then have to get our network team to reconfigure the switchports just to do a POC.14:54

roaksoaxcnf: agreed, but that seems that something ubuntu would have to support more generally18:16
cnfhmm?18:17
roaksoaxcnf: so, how does the "firmware" deal with the fact you are pxe booting over a VLAN ?18:20
cnfidno18:21
roaksoaxerr cnf sorry, wrong person :)18:22
* roaksoax fail18:22
