[06:50] bkdogan: stable as a rock in my experience [06:50] valorie: So its worth using backports? [06:51] for me, yes [06:51] I want the newest plasma and KDE apps possible [06:51] So why aren't you using KDE Neon then? :) [06:51] we test them well before putting them in backports [06:52] I'm more on the Kubuntu team than the neon team [06:52] Oooh. That sounds promising. [06:52] * valorie is the release manager [06:52] quite a few of us are on both teams [06:52] perhaps most of us [06:52] I don't use it because I don't want to run stuff from git [06:53] at least not everything [06:53] Oh nice! I hear it takes longer for KDE versions to hit backports due to dependancies and further testing. I'm happy to wait an extra week to a month for new KDE versions. I was considereing backports because KDE 5.13 looks very tempting :) [06:53] indeed [06:53] our lead devel is already running it from -proposed [06:54] I'll wait until it's ready, which involves a newer Qt version [06:54] I don't want to build my own [06:54] Yeah. You guys are doing an excellent job with Kubuntu. I absolutely love it! [06:54] So professional. [06:54] thanks! [06:54] not all of us are guys [06:54] Even the plymouth splash screen looks nice and clean. [06:54] :-) [06:55] * valorie is a grandma [06:55] Hahaha, well I meant from a "you people" sense. [06:56] Anyways, keep up the great work. I hope to stick with this LTS release and possibly enable backports for the next two years. [06:56] thanks! [06:57] if you also install ppa-purge, you can always get rid of it [06:57] !ppa-purge [06:57] To disable a PPA from your sources and revert your packages back to default Ubuntu packages, install ppa-purge and use the command: « sudo ppa-purge ppa:/ » – For more information, see http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/remove-ppa-repositories-via-command.html [06:57] Thanks for that! [06:58] Hello [06:58] hello! [06:59] I need help with my graphical settings [07:00] Because I see tearing when I'm playing games [07:05] I've tried raising the refresh rate to 144 and it helps sometimes, but it's still wildly inconsistent [07:08] coolAyanami: So what are your compositor settings? [07:11] I don't know. I have OpenGL set to v3 I think [07:14] coolAyanami, nvidia? [07:15] Yes. I have the latest drivers too to enable me to play with DXVK [07:17] does it tear when u aatch a video or move a window on the screen? [07:18] watch* [07:18] Yes [07:19] maybe try this: nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceCompositionPipeline = On }" [07:20] OK [07:20] What does that do? [07:21] it enables composition pipe [07:22] How would I undo it? It was great up until a week ago or so. Since then the laptop idles at 55 degrees, it's quite warm to the touch, programs such as Skype, Viber, Discord are laggy and freeze for some seconds... I really would appreciate if someone can help me fix this, quite disappointing, I feel like going back to Windows again [16:13] CalicoFlows, 55 degrees cpu? it's not bad at all, mine is never lower than 63 degrees, about lag and stuff you could try disabling baloo and krunner from startup, also cahnge the composition backend from opengl to xrender [16:13] reboot after [16:17] diogenes_, that's just idling, I am not even sure if it's correct as I can feel the thing on my body when it's on top of me and that was certainly not the case 10 days ago [16:17] I am already using xrender [16:17] what are baloo and krunner and how do I prevent them from running, I don't see them in the autostart list [16:19] I would go with out compositor at all too, but the show desktop button doesn't reach the edge of the screen if compositor is off and I tend to push my cursor in the corner when I want to switch to the desktop..... if there's a way to move the entire taskbar beyond the edge of the screen that would be super great [16:26] CalicoFlows, maybe it was cause by some kernel update? [17:21] I removed the battery, it MIGHT be better now. I will run it like that for today to test thing out... === alexander is now known as Guest91512 [17:30] holla [17:30] can i ask [17:32] how to tunnneling in kubuntu? I need help with my graphical settings again [19:53] graphical settings? [19:54] Well, kinda [19:54] I think last night you helped me, correct? [19:55] hello [19:55] with what? i helped a lot of dudes, can't remember [19:55] OK, I found it, the log from last night... [19:56] i need help [19:56] So last night I asked if there was a way to fix my screen tearing because even setting the refresh rate to 144Hz still had a lot of tearing when watching video or playing videogames, and often times it even stuttered [19:56] So I tried the command like I was asked to: nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 {ForceCompositionPipeline = On}" [19:58] That helped solve many of the tearing problems, but I think it also lowered the refresh rate [19:58] coolAyanami, so that command helped? [19:58] Yes, but was it supposed to lower the refresh rate? [19:59] coolAyanami, i wish i had known, it's been awhile since i ditched any nvidia from my system because nouvead does as well as nvidia and even better. [20:00] diogenes_: How would you undo this command? [20:01] that command is not persistent, you just have to re-log [20:01] and it's gone [20:01] My refresh rate is still low. You sure? [20:03] open nvidia settings and see if there is that option ticked also if you get the tearing back as before then it's off [20:03] also you could do [20:03] nvidia tear free: nvidia-settings --assign CurrentMetaMode="nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceCompositionPipeline = Off }" [20:05] So anything with "CurrentMetaMode" lasts only until the next relog? [20:11] coolAyanami, as far as i remember [20:11] it was looooong ago since i last used nvidia [20:11] Like how long? [20:24] Discovery reports me some pgp key problems, but they dissapear before I can read this carefully. I look at logs and cant find this errors. So my question is: Where I can find Discovery security warnings?!? I want to dissable this error prone respository... [20:24] Because I don't trust it... [20:39] *these errors... [20:45] Hi Maniac!
