bray90820_What's the latest version of mate for the raspberry pi 3?05:32
alkisgbray90820_: I think 16.04.205:38
alkisgI don't think 18.04 is out yet; of course you can still install it, it's just harder05:38
bray90820_Yeah that's what the website showd just didn't know if the release was different than the regular ubuntu release05:39
alkisgIt is,it's using some custom tools that are specific to rpis05:41
alkisgThere's a server armhf image that you can use for rpis too, it doesn't have those bits05:41
alkisgIf you're a casual user, yeah, 16 for now, 18 later05:42
bray90820_I am just using it for music playback with plex so no need for anything fancy05:42
alkisg16 then05:43
bray90820_Yeah05:43
bray90820_Dumb question but to write it to the SD should I rename to just .img it's currently named ubuntu-mate-16.04.2-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi.img.xz05:43
bray90820_Or well everythingBeforeTheDot.img05:44
alkisgxz is a .zip file, you need to unzip it or use a tool that can unzip it on the  fly05:44
alkisgAre you currently on windows or linux?05:44
alkisgI think there are instructions in the mate site...05:44
bray90820_MacOSX actually05:44
bray90820_But I know how to deal with it now05:45
bray90820_Thanks05:45
alkisgok05:45
alkisgNo macs in greece so I always forget that os :D05:45
bray90820_Yeah I've been using MacOS for 10+ years so I know what to do05:46

bray90820Is it just me or is ubuntu really show when web browsing on firefox?07:24
bray90820On a raspberry pi 307:25
m4trpi is probably slow i think07:26
m4trpi 3 is slower than most phones afaik, imagine a phone running full firefox07:26
m4tfirefox for android is slow. i just ditched it because of that.07:26
m4tchromium is probably fast, dunno if they have that for arm07:27
bray90820Honestly ubuntu mate just seems pretty slow on a raspberry pi07:27
m4theh07:28
m4tif youre on 16.04 you could try a recent chromium build https://launchpad.net/~chromium-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable/+packages07:28
m4tthey have armhf07:29
bray90820To be honest all I really need is plex so I think I am just gonna switch to a plex only image07:29
m4tit might help to disable disk cache too actually07:29
m4tsd card random read/writes is *slow*07:30
m4twhen running off a usb stick disabling cache made a huge difference. it'd sit there "waiting for cache..."07:30
bray90820Thanks07:30
yoggHi08:32
diogenes_hi08:32
yoggI use mate 18.04 and wan't do disable bluetoth on startup. If I disable wlan let it disabled after a reboot. This does not work with bluetooth. I found a way for 16.04 over "/etc/default" but nothing for 18.0408:34
m4tyogg: what do you mean by disable bluetooth?08:36
m4tthere are multiple components08:36
yoggThere is the bluetooth controlpannel on the right upper pannel. There I can enable and disable bluetooth. I want to disable it by default and enable it if I need it. "rfkill list all" shows me "Soft blocked: yes" if I disable it over the pannel08:42
diogenes_yogg, look in bios if there is a switch to turn if off08:44
yoggno I don't want to disable it absolutly. I wan't do enable it (fast) if I need it.08:46
yoggMaybe I found it "/etc/bluetooth/main.conf" there is a "AutoEnable=true" line. Maybe this does what I wnat08:50
diogenes_yea try that, if that doesn't help then you could try: dconf-editor > org > blueman > plugins > powermanager > auto-power-on switch to false08:51
yoggno it does not :(08:56
