fairhbis there a good resource I can reference for managing multiple versions of python?  apparently ubuntu 18.04 requires a certain version and applications I would like to install require a different version and higher versions aren't backwards compatible.00:26
wb4bbcGood Evening everybody03:33
AgamemnonHey. Ubuntu Mate has an applet that has kept notifications? If I do not read a notification from the application, I would like it to be stored there.09:04
alkisgHaha, that was strange, I was just working on epoptes notifications and peristence :D09:18

deskwizardHowdy! o/11:23
deskwizardto make a long story short, I'm trying to get pm-utils to run a script on wakeup on 16.04, but I must be missing something obvious again 'cause it's not happening :P that's what I'm testing with atm, for the sake of seeing something happen hehe https://pastebin.com/pUBdQEuf11:26
deskwizardbasically I copied and trimmed down the 95led one in/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d.11:28
alkisgdeskwizard: since the question isn't specific to the desktop environment you're using, you could also ask in #ubuntu where there are more people11:34
deskwizardalkisg: thanks for the tip :)11:34
karjala_Since this morning, I got this bug: I need to press alt+Tab twice to get the window chooser12:04
karjala_instead of just once12:04
karjala_Is anyone else having this bug?12:04
karjala_At first, when I boot, I don't have the bug, but it appears after a while, every time12:04
alkisgTry with another window manager, e.g. compiz, marco...12:10
alkisg(select from mate-tweak)12:10
karjala_i don't want to choose another window manager, i want the bug fixed12:21
karjala_also, the bug only occurs when I'm switched to the greek keyboard layout12:21
karjala_in the American keyboard layout, alt-tab works fine12:21
karjala_when in greek keyboard layout, alt-tab is alwaus needed twice12:22
karjala_i think this is a bug12:22
alkisgkarjala_, the first step to solve a bug, is to see why it happens12:23
alkisgThat was my first troubleshooting step12:23
alkisgIf the bug is in the window manager, you'll know where to report it12:23
karjala_ok thanks12:24
karjala_I'm in the middle of doing work, and cannot switch window manager. Luckilly, I have Ubuntu MATE on a VM as well, I'll test there.12:29
alkisgkarjala_, btw, what's the output of `setxkbmap -query` when you have the greek layout?12:29
karjala_alkisg, https://pastebin.com/3gucrZ0V12:31
karjala_are you greek?12:31
karjala_alkis is greek name12:31
alkisgyup12:31
karjala_me 212:31
alkisgYeah I got it :)12:32
alkisgIs ibus or fcitx running?12:32
alkisgps aux | grep ibus12:32
alkisgps aux | grep fcitx12:32
karjala_1st question: do you have the same bug on your system?12:32
karjala_alkisg, I don't have either of the two12:33
alkisgNo, I don't have the bug in 18.04 or 16.0412:34
alkisgI'm using marco, and my layout is different than yours12:34
alkisgoptions:    grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll12:34
karjala_my vm doesn't have the bug, either12:34
alkisgThat means you're not using the default greek xorg layout, maybe you're using the kbd lib12:34
alkisgWhich window manager are you using?12:35
alkisgps aux | grep marco, or compiz etc12:35
karjala_I'm using the standard one that MATE came with12:35
karjala_look what I did:12:35
karjala_i have marco12:35
karjala_did ps aux and saw it12:35
AgamemnonHi, Ubuntu Mate has something like notification tray? If you do not read a notification, it should be available in the tray as in cinnamon or kde. I asked this question earlier, but I was thrown out of bed and I was not able to read the answer.12:35
alkisgThrown out of bed? Hehe, nice :D12:36
alkisgI don't think gnome2 or mate support persistent notifications12:36
alkisg(or xfce, or notification-daemon)12:37
alkisgOnly gnome3 (=cinnamon too) and kde4 do12:37
alkisgYou could file a feature request, see if the devs want to implement it in the future12:37
alkisgkarjala_, I'm using marco too and I don't have the issue12:38
karjala_what is kbd lib?12:38
karjala_how can i tell whether i'm using greek xorg layout?12:38
alkisgkarjala_, you probably went into mate settings to add language or keyboard layout12:39
alkisgWhile the "correct thing" is to select greek in installation, which then goes to xorg configuration, which then works for all desktop environments12:39
karjala_i don't think so12:39
karjala_let me check12:39
karjala_a12:39
karjala_yes i didn't do the correct thing12:39
alkisgTry this: gsettings list-recursively | grep -w gr12:40
karjala_but neither did i do the correct thing in my VM, which works without bug12:40
karjala_org.mate.peripherals-keyboard-xkb.kbd layouts ['us', 'gr']12:40
alkisgNow try: gsettings reset-recursively org.mate.peripherals-keyboard-xkb12:40
alkisgBtw, what's the output of this? cat /etc/default/keyboard | nc termbin.com 999912:41
karjala_οοπσ12:42
karjala_oops12:42
karjala_i sent to termbin.com top secret data?12:42
alkisgYes, the keyboard configuration12:43
alkisgIt will tell NSA if you're using us,gr or gr,us12:43
alkisgThey will arrest you for that12:43
karjala_i didn't see an output, and I closed it12:43
karjala_lol12:43
alkisgRun it again12:43
alkisgAnd paste the url here12:43
karjala_my terminal doesn't have copy url12:44
alkisgType it12:44
alkisgIt's small12:44
alkisgOr select and right click and copy12:44
alkisgmate-terminal does have copy12:45
karjala_http://termbin.com/wd0812:45
alkisgThis is the correct one for greece: http://termbin.com/enmv12:45
karjala_shall i replace mine with yours?12:46
karjala_?12:46
karjala_and after i replace, do i need to reboot for the change to take effect?12:47
karjala_rebooting12:48
karjala_alkisg, didn't solve the problem12:52
karjala_here's what's causeing the problem12:53
karjala_Step #1: Go to MATE Tweak12:54
karjala_Choose the "Panel" Tab12:54
karjala_check the "Enable HUD" checkbox12:54
karjala_Congratz, you have the bug12:54
karjala_but you get cured if you uncheck12:54
karjala_i solved my problem, thanks all12:55
alkisgkarjala_, ah that explains it12:55
karjala_now it's up to the ubuntu team to fix it12:55
alkisgI always remove snapd and mate-hud12:55
alkisgIt will never fix it if you don't report it12:55
alkisgto launchpad or github12:56
karjala_ok12:56
karjala_can you give me the url for github repo?12:56
karjala_https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/mate-tweak/issues12:57
karjala_found it12:57
alkisgnot to tweak. to mate-hud.12:57
karjala_https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/mate-hud/issues/2913:00
karjala_thanks alkis13:00
karjala_mate is the best13:00
alkisgGreat13:01
karjala_alkisg, what's your relation to the ub mate project? Just a power user?13:17
alkisgkarjala_: I'm a developer of applications not related to mate13:18
karjala_me, web developer13:24
elliHow do I disable Thunderbird Mail?17:22
