gf2Hello. I am learning to triage bugs. I have a question. Bug number 1778322 seems to have a patch. Should it be marked as confirmed? Could someone look at that bug and let me know if I should mark it as confirmed?     The reporter has included a suggested solution which is a patch from redhat.  Thanks    ...G21:31
hggdhbug 177832221:33
ubot5bug 1778322 in nautilus (Ubuntu) "gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/177832221:33
hggdhgf2: not really, somebody else *must* confirm.21:35
gf2ok, thanks hggdh   - just wanted to check with you first.   On to other bugs  :)21:35
hggdhgf2: I agree that it sounds real, but there are some points here: (1) is this issue already reported at Gnome? (2) if so, does it have a patch? (we would usually prefer a patch from upstream); (3) if no bug upstream, then you might go ahead an report it there, and provide the links ...21:37
hggdhto both the LP bug and the RH one21:37
hggdhgf2: so, you can *still* work on it :-) (if you feel comfortable, I mean)21:37
gf2I think that is a bit above my skill level at the moment. I thought I would start with bugs that I could replicate. Thanks for the advice. :)21:38
gf2Hello again. I am learning about bug triage. I see a new bug where the reporter has later said, "nevermind, it was due to messed up ~/.config/mimeapps.list from an earlier installation - can be closed"22:32
gf2Do I mark that as "invalid"?22:32
gf2https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/177854922:32
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1778549 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "Thunderbird selectable as default web browser" [Undecided,New]22:32
hggdhgf2: yes, you can set as invalid. Please add a comment stating something like "closing per OP's request, not a bug"22:34
gf2will do. Thanks hggdh!22:34
hggdhyw :-)22:34
gf2It has two "affects"  ubuntu-mate and thunderbird (ubuntu). Do I mark both as "invalid"?22:36
hggdhnot the ubunutu-mate (a different distro), but you can close invalid Thunderbird (Ubuntu)22:40
hggdhwe here have access and (a bit of) control over Ubuntu, not Mate, or other distros22:41
gf2ok. So I will leave the ubuntu-mate "affect" as status "new" for this bug22:43
gf2Hi. some of these bugs are from 2008. Shouldn't they be closed by now?   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/24088722:52
ubot5Ubuntu bug 240887 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "impossible to switch in the agenda to - week - month" [Undecided,New]22:52
gf2this one as well:    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/25549222:56
ubot5Ubuntu bug 255492 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "thunderbird doesn't sign message using a x.509 certificate" [Undecided,New]22:56
gf2I have found several more, searching for thunderbird, status = new, importance = undecided.  How do I handle these really old bugs (10 years old)?23:01
gf2hggdh?23:12
hggdhgf2: you would have to check if the issue reported is no longer present -- if it is not, then you can close it23:17
gf2you mean check with the reporter to see if they still have the problem?23:17
hggdhyes, you can do that23:24
gf2ok, will do. Thanks again :)23:24
