[05:33] Am I wrong or I can't put the path in file system to load files anymore (like in File>Open dialogue) ?? [05:33] I am on 18.04 Xubuntu [05:34] in thunar ? [05:34] Why would anyone remove such a useful thing, like full file path when loading files? Is it Xfce thing, Thunar thing or Xubuntu thing? [05:34] Like in Firefox or any other app, when I invoke to open file, default system requester opens, and it lacks full path to paste in to find a file === nikolam_ is now known as nikolam [05:40] nikolam, i didn't get what you lack. [05:42] I lack ability to paste PATH to file I want to open. Like I have opened /home/username/Documents/ in a windows and there is 'file' in it. And when I do File>Open in any application, file selection appears, and I can not just paste "/home/username/Documents/" in it to seleft file, but I need to browse to file every time in that File>Open dialogue. [05:42] That option is now fully missing in Xubuntu, and is present in any other OS since forever. [05:43] It is a bug waste of time and i am wondering if lacking of full path line in File Open dialogue on Xubuntu is about Xubuntu, about Xfce or about something else [05:44] If path to the file is more complicated then I waste much time instead of just Copy/paste path to it's dir, when opening it. [05:44] diogenes_, Did you get it now? === nikolam_ is now known as nikolam [09:08] hey guys [09:08] I'm trying to figure out how to modify my touchpad settings, and setup a key to toggle it [09:09] looks like there's a lot of different ways des handle touchpad input though, and I'm not sure what xubuntu 18.04 is using, or how to check [09:10] if I can get the touchpad to behave like it did when I tried gnome shell/mate that would be sweet [09:20] a_dinosaur_: try looking at man synclient [09:21] so it's safe to say xubuntu is using synaptic? [09:21] all touchpad settings are fron synaptics [09:21] it's the interface [09:21] gotcha [09:21] cheers [09:22] apparently some des are phasing syn out, or not using it at all, so I wasn't sure [09:22] I don't know what a des is ... [09:23] my bad, I meant DEs as in Desktop Environments [09:24] I haven't come across an alternative to synaptics [09:25] apparently libinput is used by gnome and some derivs nowadays [09:25] that's just a guess from the bits of info I've seen around [09:25] truth be told it's been ages since I ran linux with a gui [09:26] aight so I'm trying synclient TouchpadOff=1 [09:26] which doesn't seem to have any effect [09:26] when I run synclient -l it's correctly set to 1 [09:26] hey guys [09:28] a_dinosaur_: try checking the X log to see if the synaptics driver is what's being used [09:28] xubuntu41i, hello [09:30] yeah just trying to figure that out now [09:31] fwiw most of the mouse settings in xfce4-settings don't actually change anything [09:31] so maybe it's using the wrong driver? [09:34] Looking thru the xorg logs, libinput is being used for pretty much everything except the touchpad [09:35] the touchpad is using synaptics [09:35] and it even says it's explicitly ignoring a libinput rule on the touchpad, because it's using a different driver [09:36] wonder why synaptic is ignoring settings then [09:38] actually, it's applying some libinput rules before synaptics is loaded [09:47] I'm gonna try some things that will require me to reboot [09:57] I've tried removing synaptic, just to see what would happen [09:57] and yeah it's using libinput for the touchpad now [09:58] xfce4-mouse-settings seems to be the same old story [09:58] swapping mouse buttons, reversing scroll direction all works. Adjusting accel and sensitiviy does nothing [10:06] aight, so from what I'm gathering libinput is the so-called "way to the future" [10:06] but the switch has broken a lot of configurators that expected just... plain xinput I guess? [11:22] hello gus [11:22] *guys [11:30] xubuntu18i, hello [13:24] Hey, I have dual monitor set up with a normal monitor and a Wacom Cintiq drawing display, and I have problems figuring how to turn off that the pen is controlling the cursor on two monitors. What do I do to make it so it only controls the cursor on the cintiq. Thanks in advance. :) [15:51] Please notify me if there comes an answer [15:52] ? [16:12] to the question I asked before that Diogenes [16:14] ppl come and go so once in a while u have to repeat it [16:22] Yeah [18:01] Anyone know how to get video thumbnails working? [18:02] Guy__, what exactly? you got no thumnails? [18:03] Guy__, do you have the xubuntu-restricted-extras package installed already? (if you know) [18:03] A bunch of file types, mainly mkv, don’t have proper thumbnails. They’re green for whatever reason. I used to use a fix that involved changing the. [18:03] The .thumbnailer files, but I can’t get that to work as of 18.04 [18:04] I’ll download that package now and report back [18:07] i've found an mkv and thumbnail is ok [18:08] I'm on 16.04LTS.... system is up-to-date. Went to install something from the "software" application (gnome-software) and it just won't load at all....anyone have similar experiences? [18:09] steve3245, yes it's not that great better try synaptic [18:09] works as swiss knife [18:10] Yes I usually never use it unless i want to look up some big graphical application with lots of dependencies [18:10] it just won't open at all now.... i tried strace on it but i can't tell what it's trying to do [18:17] Well, it just boots to a black screen now. I’ve even tried reinstalling it twice and still nothing. Very strange as I never had problems with an AMD gpu on 17.10 [18:22] Just booted after several minutes, took so long due to snapd.service, any ideas? [18:24] Guy__, do you use snap? [18:24] It’s a fresh install, so no. [18:24] sudo purge snap* [18:25] Thanks, I’ll,give it a go [18:25] that the first thing i always do [18:25] after fresh installation === sorinello1 is now known as sorinello === sorinello1 is now known as sorinello
