gf2Hello. I am just learning about triaging tickets. The ubuntu-bugs team sent me to this IRC channel for my question. I have an older ticket that the reporter says is still a problem.  I found an upstream bug (   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202257     ). It is an older bug that has a long history and was re-opened by the gnome team, in May 2017 and is still open. But now I read about the migration from bugzilla.gnome01:11
gf2.org to GitLab  that may have happened last month.  Does anyone know if  *ALL* the old tickets have been migrated to the GitLab?  Should I get registered there and submit a new ticket? I searched the GitLab (using ticket number or ticket title) but did not find any matching ticket.01:11

ubot5Ubuntu bug 1773334 in glib2.0 (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu 18.04 mounted network shares not appearing under devices in file manager" [High,Triaged]13:45
willcookeIs this the one we keep skipping?13:45
Laneydon't think so, it was only tagged recently13:46
LaneyI would say notfixing and we get it by the stable update in due course though13:47

ubot5Ubuntu bug 1778817 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Bionic) "release upgrade from xenial to bionic desktop: screen locks itself, password to unlock fails" [Critical,Triaged]13:48
willcookeWe need to fix that one, who can we assign?13:48
seb128I looked at that earlier, I'm not convinced it's a confirmed issue13:49
seb128also I don't why it targets bionic13:49
seb128if the issue is xenial updates the fix should be able xenial?13:49
seb128able->about13:49
willcookeheh good point13:49
willcookejibel, could you look at recreating it as a first step?13:49
seb128+1 for that13:50
jibelwillcooke, I tried, I could unlock every time. I think it's a timing issue13:50
jibelI'll try again13:50
willcookekk, thanks13:50
LaneyThis is also why every sensible screensaver spawns a fresh helper process to handle the authentication through PAM. compiz (unity), apparently, does not.13:50
Laneythat is the most slangasekish line ever13:51
seb128lol13:51
Laneyjibel: I think the point is that it's supposed to not lock13:51
jibelLaney, yes and it locks13:52
Laneyso you reproduced it...13:52
jibelthe lock part not the fail to unlock part13:52
Laneydon't think that matters if the point is the first half13:53
willcookeI would have thought the screen locking was desirable.  If you start and upgrade and go off for lunch, you would expect the machine to lock13:54
willcookeanyway, jibel if you can comment on the bug thats a good starting point13:54
willcookenext13:54
willcookehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/177905113:54

Laneyno, because you are doing open heart surgery on the system while it is conscious and it can forget how to unlock itself quite easily13:55
Laneythat is what happens in that bug13:55
willcookefair13:55
willcookekk13:55
TrevinhoYeah, I think it's not a policy problem, more a bug that what the policy says it's not respected13:56
TrevinhoUnity checks on pam only, not sure what happens13:56
Trevinhoanother option would be setting the gnome lockdown options in gsettings to force it13:56
Trevinhobut, not the nicest way13:56
seb128let's not discuss the bugs details in the meeting13:56
willcookejibel is going to take another look13:57
LaneyThe point of my comments was about who should get assigned.13:57
Trevinhowillcooke: 1779051 seems that is already addressed, no?13:57
* Laney shrugs13:57
Trevinhohttps://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-desktop-team/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/commit/?id=924f74683e778dc967377811e414df310601591913:57
seb128Trevinho, not SRUed to bionic yet13:57
willcookeTrevinho, yeah looks like it, although I think it needs SRUing13:57
Trevinhoah, ok... yep, agree13:57
willcookeI'll assign it to Robert13:58
seb128I don't know what to do with those13:58
seb128I would assign to Robert13:58
willcookedone13:58
seb128but he's going to do his usually disagreeing about being assigned or ignore it/unassign himself at some point13:58
seb128but oh well13:58
seb128we can have another disucssion when that happens13:58
willcookehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/171498913:59

seb128that has been fixed/SRUed14:00
seb128unsure why it's on the list14:00
Laneyit's fix committed14:00
Laneybut has a New gjs task14:00
Laneythat might be in need of closing14:00
willcookeTrevinho, that one is with you please ^14:01
Trevinhosoo.. the gjs task would be nice to fix, at least for C14:01
Trevinhobut not strictly needed for that crash now14:01
Trevinhomight be needed for others though14:01
seb128so let's invalid on this bug14:01
TrevinhoSo, shell side we're all set14:01
seb128it's difficult enough to read like that14:02
TrevinhoI mean, invalid for bionic maybe14:02
Trevinhonot for C14:02
seb128right14:02
seb128please do that14:02
willcookethanks Trevinho14:02
willcookek, I think that's the end of the list14:02
willcookeseb128, Laney - did I miss any?14:02

Laneyfor c14:03
willcookeat this point, I dont think we have time.  I'm ok to bump it.  I would like some other changes to the dock too, so I think bundle them up for next cycle14:04

willcookePlease could someone write a summary of sun sprint for me?  With pictures.14:05
willcookeNo rush, but would be a good blog post14:05
Trevinhooh... ok :)14:06
willcooke:) thanks Trevinho14:06
seb128served with a tequilla next to the pool? ;)14:06
seb128lol14:06
willcookeAny other business?14:06
TrevinhoLaney: want to make your blog cool? :-D14:06
Laneyok, I'll copy and paste your text in there :-)14:06
willcookeDidnt someone want to talk about Nautilus?14:06
Laneywe should probably talk about gnome updates at some point14:07
seb128there was some community hub discussions about it where Didier pointed people here14:07
Laneylike if other people need to pick those up more14:07
seb128is that what you refering to?14:07
willcookeseb128, yeah.  Oh, I think you replied there already.  But anyway, I dont think we should move until the "desktop" feature appears elsewhere14:08
seb128right14:08
willcookeLaney, can you talk about GNOME updates in person at GUADEC and then we can discuss in the meeting next time?14:08
seb128we are a bit under the water atm14:08
seb128we also said we would enable tracker this cycle14:09
seb128but that doesn't look on the path to happen14:09
seb128we should probably have included that as a feature in the planning14:09
Laneyyou think that's a lot of work?14:09
seb128we are already behind on features we signed for and that's not account work for the desktop feature, or GNOME updates, or tracker14:09
seb128not especially, but it needs someone to step up to push that forward14:10
TrevinhoAh.. .one thing we said at sun sprint... To ask upstream to take maintenance of the gnome-3-28 branches when they don't care anymore... So we can do SRUs and keep them updated too14:10
Trevinhoas they won't care anymore at some point, while we'll still do14:11
seb128like the tracker MIR is blocked on someone to report about the crash reports situation14:11
seb128Trevinho, that sounds like a good topic for GUADEC14:11
Trevinhoyep14:11
Trevinhonot sure how to get this exposed to all the upstreams we care though xD14:12
seb128well, we can at least speak to a key ones14:12
seb128I don't expect us to do much on most components14:12
TrevinhoYeah, for sure nautilus, mutter+shell, gnome-software14:12
seb128gnome-shell stack and gnome-control-center/nautilus mostly14:12
seb128+ gnome-software yes14:12
Trevinhoah and g-c-c yep14:12
willcookeanything more that needs the meeting for?14:14
willcookeerm14:14
willcookeEnglish fail14:14
willcookeAnything more to talk about in the meeting?14:14
seb128that should be enough for this week imho14:14
willcookeyeah same14:14

willcookethanks all14:14
seb128thanks!14:15
seb128Laney, willcooke, jibel, I commented on bug #1778817, the gnome-session-inhibit command works on xenial, to me it looks like the issue is on the foundations/u-r-u side14:20
ubot5bug 1778817 in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu Bionic) "release upgrade from xenial to bionic desktop: screen locks itself, password to unlock fails" [Critical,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/177881714:20
seb128I don't know how that one works, could be another ubiquity like "wrong env" issue14:21
seb128like not managging to talk to the correct session because the uid, dbus env or something is not right14:21
Laneythx14:21
LaneyI don't think there's a compiz task there anyway is there?14:21
Laneyunless we are really going to fix that thing Steve pointed out14:21
Laneyseems unlikely to me14:21
seb128right14:23
seb128I was looking at it from the perspective of "is gnome-session-inhibit not working"14:23
seb128in which case it would be our issue14:23
Laneyk14:23
abeatocyphermox, hey, is https://salsa.debian.org/cyphermox-guest/modemmanager.git the official ubuntu repo for MM?15:13
cyphermoxabeato: I don't know, I haven't touched ModemManager or NetworkManager in quite a while15:43
cyphermoxI suggest you ask jbicha if there's code anywhere else, but that repo is for debian15:43
jbichaI don't have any other code for MM15:51
abeatocyphermox, jbicha understood, thanks. what I wnated to know is if there was an equivalent of git+ssh://git.launchpad.net/network-manager for MM, and it looks like no15:52
Laneyabeato: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager looks good15:54
Laneyermmm15:54
Laneyhttps://git.launchpad.net/network-manager/log/?h=cosmic15:54
Laneyno tag, but nearly there :-)15:54
abeatoLaney, thanks, was thinking about MM here, nothing in https://code.launchpad.net/modemmanager/+git15:55
Laneyah, sorry, my brain didn't read that right!15:56
abeato:)15:56
LaneyI would look at repos in the form of https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+git15:57
Laneylooks like git-ubuntu ones15:58
Laneyyou could try if you wanted some fun15:58
abeatoah, yeah, that url contains some repos15:58
abeato(well, branches)16:01
LaneyI don't think git-ubuntu's branches share objects with upstream git repos though; more of a reconstruction of what's been in Ubuntu (AIUI)16:02
Laneybut depending on what you want, might be OK16:02
abeatoI think they are useful as a base for a snap16:04
tsimonq2Is the server-side code for ubuntu-report anywhere?17:54
tsimonq2Lubuntu's going to use Calamares with 18.10 and we'll have some different install options to go along with that. Depending how flexible things are, we'll either need to special-case upstream or fork.17:55
tsimonq2Kubuntu could use Calamares soon as well.17:55
willcooketsimonq2, not that I know of, but I don't think it's a secret.  However, why not all use the same backend?18:51
willcookei.e. why do you feel that lubuntu needs to use it's own database?18:53
willcookeIs your thinking that the current backend might not be able to accept the data you want to throw at it?18:53
tsimonq2willcooke: Correct.18:53
willcookegot ya18:54
willcookeI know it's running postgres with the JSON "thingy" so that it, as I understand it, just stores the JSON blob as is18:54
willcookeand then you can use the JSON query interface to pull data out again18:54
willcookejibel knows the most about this right now18:55
willcookebut he's EOD18:55
tsimonq2Ah, OK.18:55
tsimonq2Do you know his UTC offhand?18:55
willcooketsimonq2, would you drop me an email and we can follow up there?18:55
tsimonq2s/offhand/offset/18:55
willcooketsimonq2, -118:55
tsimonq2willcooke: Sure.18:55
willcooke+118:56
willcookeoh, except its summer time, so probably +218:56
willcooketsimonq2, I'd love to be able to all contribute to the same database, so very keen for us to try and accommodate you there first if we can18:57
willcookeplus one less database to admin :)18:57
tsimonq2willcooke: Right, and I wanted to make sure things were flexible here. :)18:57
tsimonq2We do share some common installer options, but Calamares adds some.18:58
willcookeif you have some specific metrics that you'd like to get at, we can look at extending ubuntu-report too, add a special run mode or whatever18:58
tsimonq2Yeah, some specific metrics would be good. I'll be happy to contribute code upstream though.19:00
willcookewoot19:00
tsimonq2willcooke: Hm, you don't seem to have a public LP email. What can I use?19:01
willcookeso yeah, if you dont mind, drop me an email and I'll get the right people on the thread19:01
willcookeor19:01
willcookeactually19:01
willcookeCommunity Hub might be better19:01
tsimonq2Sure.19:01
tsimonq2One thing though; I'm not exactly sure *what* we'd like to extend it to yet (there's some details I still need to work out) but I know that things will need to be extended in the future.19:02
tsimonq2So would you like to have a discussion about extending things now, or wait until I'm absolutely sure I know what I'm looking at?19:02
willcooketsimonq2, I dont think there's any harm in us having a theoretical "How can we add more metrics / flexibility" to ubuntu-report and the backend / frontend reporting interface19:06
willcookeconversation19:06
willcookenow19:06
willcookethen we can solve that, and get in to the specifics later19:06
willcookeif that works for you19:06
willcookeIn other news, all the players in the world cup should be utterly ashamed of themselves for cheating all the time.19:07
