fricklerklebers: do you have some more reference regarding the issue found with 4.15? I have some recently installed xenial machines running with it and would like to assess whether it would be better to downgrade13:44
klebersfrickler, we are not sure exactly when we are going to -updates the fix for the random number generator, probably during the next couple of weeks. In the meantime you can either downgrade it or install the kernel from -proposed (which is not guaranteed yet to be completely stable)13:48
fricklerklebers: is there a bug tracking "fix for the random number generator"?13:49
klebersfrickler, https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177982713:51
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1779827 in linux (Ubuntu) "failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic" [Critical,In progress]13:51
fricklerklebers: great, thanks. so iiuc once the machine has haveged running, there should be no further issue13:54
klebersfrickler, sure! yeah, it seems it works around the issue for most users13:57
fricklerklebers: o.k., I was just worried that there might be some security related issue when running with that kernel. so I guess in my case just keeping the servers running until there is a newer version in -updates seems fine14:00
blujhello. i'm rebuilding a ubuntu kernel via instructions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel . one of the things it mentions to do is to change the version string in debian.master/changelog so i can tell i'm running the intended kernel etc.  this is not taking effect though- my resultant .deb's just have the version without my appended string. anyone know why?14:25
