xubuntu27wIs NFS client support missing from some phase of the LiveCD install? I'm almost able to PXE boot into 18.04 desktop but it can't seem to find the NFS share.04:21
flocculantxubuntu27w: there are no nfs files on the livecd - install what's needed, likely need to re-install on the 18.04 when it's installed04:24
xubuntu27wI noticed that emergency mode has wget ... might that be enough to PXE boot the LiveCD enough to install to begin with?04:27
xubuntu27w"Unable to find a live file system on the network" is the error it throws when drops down into ash04:28
xubuntu27wI'm going off this tutorial: https://www.downtowndougbrown.com/2017/03/hosting-ubuntu-16-04-desktop-live-install-iso-on-a-pxe-netboot-server-bios-and-uefi-simultaneously/04:29
flocculantsorry - no clue - you might actually be better off using #ubuntu - at this stage there's no difference betwen flavours04:31
xubuntu27wUbuntu 16.04 didn't like my ancient GeForce chipset and none of my ancient systems like Ubuntu 18.04. When the recommend a 2.0Ghz dualie they really mean it.04:34
xubuntu27wThe computer I'm trying to PXE boot is so old I can't find a IDE optical drive for it, it won't boot of USB and the GPU's beefiness is measured in "pixel pipelines" hence the attempt at a PXE boot or fancy grub rescues with "toram" so the installer can partition the same drive it booted from.04:39
xubuntu27wThe latter case worked beautifully in Xubuntu Desktop 16.04. I'm not sure why I couldn't get it to work from 18.04 but I'm guessing I didn't have enough ram for that "toram" option.04:40
xubuntu27wI consider my use case to be "obscure bordering on insane". Worst case scenario I can go back to 16.04 ... Sony won't even let me download the XP drivers anymore, neither will nVidia. Long live Linux!04:43
xubuntu27wThanks, flocculant. If I find some kind of workaround I'll publish it somewhere.04:45

pmjdebruijnorangeguru: did you install any software from outside of the xubuntu repositories?18:53
pmjdebruijnthe issue you describe is very very unlikely to ever happen in normal xubuntu, unless you've forcefully installed software that's not supposed to be installed on xubuntu18:54
pmjdebruijnorangeguru: you might want to pastebin the entire message18:55
pmjdebruijnalso, pastebin "cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*"18:58

oenehello, im installing Xubuntu 18.04 and there is a problem with the keyboard, some keys are good but some not, for example the o-key asserts a 6, which is the fn value of the key21:43
oenethe issue is specific to Xubuntu 18.04, so no problems on Xubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu 18.0421:45
nomenonoene, what kind of keyboard21:55
oenea laptop21:57
nomenonwhat did you select? US?21:58
nomenonor did you try to configure by pushing keys21:59
oeneyes21:59
oenealso yes21:59
nomenonwhat kind of laptop21:59
oeneMedion Akoya E4241S-A-64F222:00
oenethe problem is with the keys with blue secondary function on them that can be used in combination with the Fn key22:01
nomenoni think that is handled by your bios, so you are dependent on a driver for that laptop keyboard22:04
nomenonyou said it worked before, so you likely just need a driver22:06
nomenoni know that does not help much sorry22:06
oeneinterestingly, when running the installer without live booting, the keyboard is working properly22:08
oenebut when live booting and then running the same installer there is problems22:08
oeneso i would think it is xfce related, could it be configuration or a bugg?22:08
nomenonHopefully a dev sees this, im just a lowly user.22:09
oenethank you nomenon22:09
nomenonoene, you could try turning numlock options off in your BIOS.  I know that stops letters popping up as numbers in some situations22:10
oenei will look22:11
oenenomenon the boot setting didnt chance a thing however it does appear that Xubuntu activates numlock and i managed to turn it off with the help of the fn key and the keyboard works right22:26
nomenonawesome!22:27
nomenonI wont lie I left and drank a beer and had a smoke but I came back and was searching for an answer22:27
oenehaha, that's actually quite nice of you though22:30
nomenonoene, it seems your laptop manufacturer needs some linux people22:30
nomenonlots of similar issues across distros with your brand22:30
oeneoh, interesting22:31
nomenonfn key issues  numlock letters replaced with numbers22:31
oeneeverythings seems to be working fine for me now though, even the touchpad and wifi, which is great22:31
* nomenon dances22:31
nomenonthe only problem now is, what shall i dooooo with my time22:32
nomenonZo veel tijd. Zo weinig initiatief.22:33
oenei know what i'm doing with mine, figuring out how irc works, lol22:39
nomenonthe only important IRC command is ./me22:53
* nomenon dances22:53
* nomenon wiggles22:53
* oene drools over xfce22:54
nomenonexactly my friend22:56
