gf2Hi Brian, I need advice on this bug ticket I am trying to triage.00:01
gf2https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/125105900:02
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1251059 in thunderbird (Ubuntu) "Preferences dialog window too small" [Undecided,New]00:02
gf2I am not sure what I should do next. Reporter can’t replicate original problem but now reports same issue on a different dialog window.00:03
gf2I changed the title from “ "HTML Mail Question" dialog doesn't fit”    to    “Preferences dialog window too small”00:03
gf2I was able to replicate the preferences dialog window problem on my computer.00:03
gf2I found a corresponding bug report on Bugzilla (#502371).00:04
gf2On comment number 3 in bugzilla there was a solution was provided (edit a DPI setting). It worked for me on my computer.00:04
gf2The reporter tried it and still has the problem.00:04
gf2He is using Mate 16.04.  I am in Ubuntu 18.04.00:04
gf2What are my next steps? Should I link this to the Mate project? Should I just mark it as confirmed and move on?00:04
bdmurrayHas the description been modified to reflect the different bug?00:07
gf2Yes, I did that and now I wonder if I should have just closed the original and had him file a new bug. But it seemed too petty at the time.00:07
bdmurrayHas the bug been tagged with the releases affected?00:08
gf2No, I am new to this and not sure how and when to do that.00:08
bdmurrayI find it useful for tracking which releases are affected.00:09
bdmurrayWhat importance do you think the bug deserves?00:09
gf2Very low importance. I think you can see all the buttons and things on the window. The layout just looks wonky.00:10
bdmurrayOkay, I'll set it to Low then and given that it is low I'd move on.00:12
gf2Shall I say confirmed?00:12
bdmurrayYou were able to recreate it but with a different release right?00:12
gf2Yes and the workaround worked for me but not for him00:13
bdmurraySo confirming it sounds right.00:14
gf2ok. and how do I link it to a specific release?00:15
bdmurrayIt is possible for a bug to be targeted to a release but we only do that when we intend to fix it in that release.00:16
gf2ah, ok. So i'll just mark it as confirmed and move on. I have a screen shot I can attach as well.  Thanks for your help, Brian. :)00:17
bdmurrayAnother step might be to open a new bug upstream since you tested it with a more recent version and they closed the other one.00:18
gf2ok, that is a good idea. Thanks :)00:19
gf2Hi Brian. In recreating the steps for the Mozilla bug, I realized I was looking at the wrong tab in the preferences. The general tab is the one the reporter complained about and I, indeed, have the same problem in Ubuntu 18.0 and TB 52.9.1.      I am creating the Mozilla bug now.   Thanks for your help.  :)  G00:49
gf2Hi Brian, I filed the new Mozilla bug. How do I connect the Ubuntu bug to it. It already has the old mozilla bug connected to it and I think it won't let me add another?01:00
gf2New bug number is01:00
gf2https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147647801:00
ubot5Mozilla bug 1476478 in Untriaged "Preferences dialog, General Tab, window is too small" [Normal,Unconfirmed]01:00
gf2Never mind, I think I figured it out. :)01:02
=== bdmurray_ is now known as bdmurray
gf2Hi bdmurray, are you there? I noticed you added a tag to the ticket we were discussing last night. Just wondering, should I have added that tag?    ...still learning...  :)23:20
bdmurraygf2: I'd asked about the tags yesterday and tried to imply it should be tagged with the affected releases.23:22
gf2Ah, that makes sense now. When I spoke with you, I thought I had solved it on my computer. Later while entering steps in the mozilla bug, I realized that my own computer still had the problem (general tab, vs. the advanced tab).   I definitely affects Bionic (mine).   Also, should I mark the Mozilla bug as confirmed as well?23:27
bdmurrayA workaround isn't really a fix for the issue though. People would have to find the bug then do something to their computer. Its best if we include the fix in the package.23:28
bdmurraygf2: What was the bug number again?23:29
gf2https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/125105923:29
gf2https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147647823:30
bdmurraygf2: If you are referring to the row with the label "Mozilla Thunderbird" that isn't changeable. Its a bug watch and may change based on the upstream status.23:30
gf2I was thinking about the bug in Mozilla Bugzilla - they won't touch it if it is unconfirmed, right?23:31
bdmurrayI'm not familiary with the processes for their bugtracker.23:31
gf2ok, thanks Brian.  Back to the tags question: do I have the rights to add a tag? Is that under "Also affects distribution/package"?  :)23:34
bdmurraygf2: Yes, No. Its located at the bottom of the description where it says "Tags: "23:35
gf2Oh! I never noticed. And it is ok for me to do add a tag? I am just a beginner, you know,  :)23:36
bdmurraygf2: Its fine, they are just a way of describing the bug.23:37
bdmurrayHere's a list that might be outdated. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Tags23:37
gf2Ok, that's great. I will look at that. Thanks again for your help, Brian!  ...until tomorrow... :)23:38
