[06:42] good mornings [07:49] hi inetpro, how goes? [07:49] hi all others too [07:51] all good thanks and you chesedo [07:51] ? [07:52] good ty inetpro [08:35] Morning all [08:36] hi wolfeyes and everyone else [08:36] Wolfeyes: [08:39] anyone using squid to monitor bandwidth usage please help [08:39] Does anyone have advice on what the best broadband usage monitoring program would be best on a windows network, running it from Trusty 14.04 being used as a server, but not with server software...? [08:40] bandwidth not broadband* [11:05] Wolfeyes: does the ubuntu system act as the network server? [11:06] yes [11:07] chesedo, yes [11:08] with windows computers connecting to it, internet running in and out of the server ethernets ports [11:09] I am currently looking at squid and wondering if there is anything easier [11:09] Wolfeyes: great, thats do-able [11:09] squid is only a proxy [11:09] should the monitoring be live or historical? [11:10] so the web browsers have to connect to that port that squid creates? [11:10] Both if my understanding of historical is recorded. [11:11] Wolfeyes: yes, they have to use that port if the proxy is not transparent [11:11] normally 3128 [11:12] should the data be per interface or connected client? [11:12] and my understanding is if squid is tranparent then traffic will go through without any trouble, until changed to monitor traffic? [11:13] client connected I think, windows computers connecting to it... [11:14] i have to idea how to make squid record the bandwidth used so can't help there... [11:14] but for that look at darkstat. Most routers use it for historical bandwidth used per connected client [11:15] Okay well just recording the sites visited would be a great start. [11:15] Let me google that [11:15] do you want a log of sites visited or bandwidth data used? [11:17] both [11:18] Oh, squid already does the visited log... will tell where when at pc again... Was access.log iirc [11:18] Then darkstat for data used... [11:20] busy looking at it, Iwill have to look at installing it on the weekend I htink. Thanks chesedo [11:23] Just busy gathering everything that I will need [11:45] `tail -f /var/log/squid/access.log` for the squid log file [11:49] although you might want to rather use some squid log analyser to get a better view of the data in that file [15:21] I saw chesedo there was mention of a program called Sarge for looking at the log file [16:49] Wolfeyes: seems interesting [16:50] there is also SquidAnalyzer [16:51] well there are many choses actually on some official page on squid [17:12] I was there today chesedo been trying to read through it all, it's a lot lol [17:13] haha, yeah I only scrolled through it :D [17:31] o/ [17:53] o/ [17:57] hi superfly and Kilos [18:06] heya superfly [18:06] hey guys [18:12] hi chesedoty for helping wolf [18:13] all good superfly? [18:13] Kilos-: yep. [18:13] hot, but good. === Kilos- is now known as Kilos [18:13] how hot? [18:14] 40 [18:14] dont melt [18:14] We have airconditioning in the house... but not in my office :-/ [18:14] I might move into the bedroom after lunch [18:15] lol [18:15] We might have a thunderstorm this afternoon, that'll cool things down. [18:16] yip [18:16] we freezing here [18:17] Kilos: I hope you're staying warm enough [18:19] yes ty , coupla good duvets, and sun warms my room all morning so i spend much time with door closed to keep warmth in [18:21] did you guys like and share taras song on FB? [18:22] teel the mericans thats a boere meisie that cant speak afrikaans [18:22] haha [18:22] I can barely get the Americans to understand me. [18:22] lol [18:22] talk to them in code [18:23] "Hi, I'm looking for the tarps" "huh?" "the tarps" "huh?" "The taRRRRRRRRRRRps" "Oh! they're down that aisle" [18:24] hahhahaa [18:24] how are the chickens [18:25] They're also hot ;-) [18:25] But doing well. [18:25] hee hee hee [18:29] lol, try taaaps next time :D [18:30] iirc the r is not as "revee" as over here [18:30] chesedo: I think they thought I was saying "tops" [18:30] lol [18:30] because they pronounce an "o" as "aa" [18:31] I'm in rural America, I hang with the ranchers and the cowboys ;-) [18:31] crazy [18:31] southerners? [18:31] No, South West (which is not the same as the South) [18:32] We live just outside Willcox https://osm.org/go/TlP8Aag-- [18:32] aak :P [18:34] lol [18:37] Oh, by the way, I ordered one of these little guys: https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Internet-Development-Wireless-Micropython/dp/B010O1G1ES/ [18:37] It gets here this afternoon. [18:38] You can either use Arduino to program it, or you can use MicroPython (which I'm planning on using) [18:42] That looks pretty cool [18:43] I'm going to hook it up to a solar charging set up (panels, charge controller, battery) and get it to automatically open and close the coop door at dawn and about 20 minutes after dusk [18:44] The most expensive parts, from my calculations, are the solar panel, charge controller, and battery. They'll come to about $60. [18:44] So that means I can set up my own automatic door for less than $100, while the ones being sold commercially are $200+ [18:57] well done [18:58] lucky chickens [18:58] hi pavlushka [18:59] Hello Kilos :) [19:00] great concept superfly [19:04] Hello Wolfeyes o.0, How are you? [19:06] heya pavlushka Okay thank you and yourself? [19:07] Wolfeyes: I am good, nice to see you :) [19:08] Been a while, I been usy [19:08] busy* [19:09] Wolfeyes: good for you (actually for anyone)
