[23:07] DalekSec: I didn't repeat the url [23:14] RoyK: also, everyone knows about the spam... it's been going on all day :) [23:25] if I were to install regular 18.04 ubuntu onto my server, is it possible to just edit the sources.list to point to the Ubuntu Server repo's and that work okay or no? [23:26] nacc: it'd be nice to have some filter to stop these repetetive messages, though [23:27] RoyK: ok [23:27] rando-mang10: what are you running now? [23:27] rando-mang10: ... server and desktop are package sets, not different repositories. [23:27] RoyK: nothing at the moment. [23:27] RoyK: FWIW, if you use Irssi, you can use trigger.pl to ignore by message. [23:28] DalekSec: normally it's not a big issue [23:29] rando-mang10: then what do you want to run? [23:30] RoyK: postfix, dovecot [23:30] just install the regular server and the rest [23:30] should work well [23:30] RoyK: right, but it doesn't support encryption in the installer [23:31] why do you need encryption? [23:31] I've actually partitioned my drive and setup LVM with two LV's: boot and root (essentially) [23:31] To protect my data [23:31] if the filesystems are mounted, they're available to anyone with onlone access anyway [23:31] rando-mang10: why did you partition your disk outside of the installer? [23:32] no need for a separate boot anymore [23:32] nacc: I started off with the installer, but then found no options for disk encryption [23:32] rando-mang10: in which installer? [23:33] nacc: the regular ubuntu server installer. used an ubuntu desktop liveboot usb to partition [23:34] I've read that you have to use an alternate installer, but I couldn't find that anywhere. That's why I went down a rabbit hole xD [23:35] RoyK: online access is one thing, but if the physical drives were taken it'd be paramount for me to protect that data. [23:36] rando-mang10: yes, use the alternate installer [23:36] rando-mang10: it's in the same place as the regular server installer, iirc [23:37] nacc: whaaaaat [23:38] nacc: i gotta check this out HAHAHAHA [23:39] at least, afaik [23:40] nacc: which link would it be? the first is the usual installer, while the other 3 are not mentioned with LVM, etc [23:40] http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/18.04/release/ [23:41] rando-mang10: iirc, if your iso has the word 'live' in it, it's the new installer, if it doesn't it's the old installer [23:41] does anyone know what time today Ubuntu 18.04.1 is going to be released? [23:46] nacc: hmm. no luck finding it. no iso's with 'live' or mention of LVM. maybe the ubuntu server installer just doesn't support it :o [23:46] rando-mang10: which iso did you use? [23:47] http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releases/bionic/release/ is the 'alternate', afaict; and http://releases.ubuntu.com/bionic/ is the new [23:47] the latter is the 'default' choice [23:48] Hey, I thought you guys might be interested in this blog by freenode staff member Bryan 'kloeri' Ostergaard https://bryanostergaard.com/ [23:50] nacc: oh derp! i just checked my downloads folder and the one i'm using is 'live.' i'll try the non-live.
