scientesLord-Kamina, generally you can just install it without rebuilding (building the linux kernel with all the modules takes a while)00:55
scientesLord-Kamina, and linux have very good binary compatibility, so yes00:55
scientesoh, that was a long time ago00:56
Lord-Kaminascientes, thanks anyway. In the end it didn't really work out beh eh.01:55
scientesLord-Kamina, why do you need a newer kernel?02:49

tomreynhow would i report a bug against the 18.04(.1) release notes? It should mention that Xorg logs may now go to ~/.local/share/xorg/ and under which circumstancers they will (not). i think some other processes - gdm, lightdm, sddm (i think?), maybe this is only with UMS, or with KMS, please clarify - which used to log to /var/log may also log to the users' home now. this would be quite relevant for people migrating / upgrading from 16.04.15:22
tomreynx.org vs wayland may also matter for the log location, and if so, this should be discussed, too.15:23
rbasaktomreyn: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes -> Report a bug15:27
rbasaktomreyn: though you might need to raise it with the desktop team to get it agreed/actioned15:27
rbasaktomreyn: but by all means file the bug, since that will give everyone a coordination point. Then ask #ubuntu-desktop and/or the ubuntu-desktop mailing list.15:28
rbasak(Since we can't put _every_ change in the release notes, we should probably defer to the desktop team to decide what should go in from the desktop side)15:29
tomreynrbasak: how would i "raise it with the desktop team (to get it agreed/actioned)"?15:33
tomreynoh, you said so15:33
tomreynthanks#15:33

Lord-Kaminascientes, it was mostly a futile effort really... I had backported some packages from bionic over to trusty and in the process hit some Breaks and was trying to get them to work, but hit a wall when I realized one of the things I needed to port required a newer linux-libc-dev16:18
