[13:35] Hii I am new here. But, I would like to contribute to the lubuntu project. Can anyone get me started? [13:50] Hi. I´m using Lubuntu 16.04.5 LTS, 64 bit right now. My update-manager tells me that 18.04.1 LTS is available and asks me if I want to upgrade. But what happens if my internet-connection goes down during the upgrade-process? [13:53] Hii I am new here. But, I would like to contribute to the lubuntu project. Can anyone get me started? [14:19] !contribute [14:19] To contribute and help out with Ubuntu, see http://community.ubuntu.com and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ContributeToUbuntu [18:28] hello [18:28] Lubuntu 18.04, ThinkPad T61 [18:28] DVD-ROM combo drive doesn't respond to eject button press [18:28] nor is there a /dev/sr0 [18:28] (the drive works, I have installed the OS from it, it also ejects fine prior to booting the OS) [18:29] the notebook sits in a docking bay (IBM series original dock) [18:29] any ideas as to how to track this issue and fix it? [18:29] i'd suspect that's a more general question than a lubuntu one [18:29] you might want to get more eyes on it at #ubuntu [18:29] that said, do you see the device in `lspci`? [18:31] there's nothing on it in dmesg; nor lspci; nor lshw [18:32] is the drive in the docking bay? [18:32] nope, in the notebook itself. [18:32] I can try booting without the docking bay [18:32] maybe that's messing things up, though I doubt; it's a mechanical kind of dock [18:32] more of a port replicator + charging [18:32] it's worth a try [18:33] alright, let's see if that changes things [18:33] brb [18:36] well, no. [18:36] that made no difference. [18:36] ok, so that's out [18:36] the fact that lspci doesn't see it is remarkably weird. have you looked in syslog/dmesg to see if there's anything telling? [18:36] is there any kernel modules necesary for the latest l/ubuntu to be able to see sata/pata cdroms? [18:37] no; there's nothing; the kernel doesn't see the drive. [18:37] there's /dev/sg0 and /dev/sda* [18:38] shouldn't need anything [18:38] and besides, if modules were missing, the kernel should still see it. it just wouldn't be able to do anything with it. [18:38] i.e. it would be listed in lspci [18:39] so i'm at a loss. i'd check with #ubuntu [18:39] cheers [18:39] sorry [18:51] no worries
