[00:57] hi, i am using 16. it just offered me to upgrade to bionic beaver. however i did not have enough memory. now i can't seem to get the upgrade again. [00:57] (i cleared the hard drive) [01:47] ? [01:57] I'd be curious what you mean by "i cleared the hard drive" in this context. [02:02] made enough space that the installer was asking for [02:03] if i remember correctly, it only asked for the proper amount of space after beginning installation [02:06] "lsb_release -a" in a terminal should confirm you are actually on Bionic already now - and just need to follow through with the upgrades. [02:07] "Distributor ID: Ubuntu [02:07] Description: Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS [02:07] Release: 16.04 [02:07] Codename: xenial [02:07] " [02:08] the installation stopped after a couple of minutes, said how much space i had and how much i needed. then it said it was uninstalling the updates and to try later. [02:14] And if you start the Software Updater from the menu now, it doesn't offer the version upgrade anymore? [02:30] exactly [02:33] "do-release-upgrade" in a terminal would be another option to initiate it. [02:43] trying it ty [03:01] seems to be working, i appreciate [03:02] Yay! \o/ [03:18] lots of things happened then this: "Failed to stop anacron-resume.service: Transaction is destructive. [03:18] See system logs and 'systemctl status anacron-resume.service' for details. [03:18] dpkg: warning: old anacron package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 4 [03:18] dpkg: trying script from the new package instead ... [03:18] Failed to stop anacron.timer: Unit anacron.timer not loaded. [03:18] dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/anacron_2.3-24_amd64.deb (--unpack): [03:18] new anacron package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 5 [03:18] ERROR: Cannot create report: [Errno 17] File exists: '/var/crash/anacron.0.crash' [03:18] " [03:21] though i just did the lsb release command and it says 18.04 [03:26] "sudo apt full-upgrade" and/or "sudo dpkg --configure -a" give any errors? [03:32] says dpkg status database is locked by another process [03:34] terminal keeps crashing and other progs crash or don't run right, though have not restarted computer yet [03:34] some work [03:37] Might just try that, or do it in recovery mode if it fails. [03:39] i'll see what happens. appreciated again.
