bluesabreflocculant: seems so00:31
=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash
flocculantbluesabre ochosi - thought I'd come back on yesterdays nightmare ...09:49
flocculantit got worse ;)09:49
flocculantwoke up this morning to no working installs 09:49
bluesabreflocculant: yikes09:50
flocculantcosmic is still foobar - this one I reinstalled, thankfully I've always got a stick with one of our releases on it - so reinstalled 18.04.1 ...09:50
bluesabreis the breakage limited to us?09:51
flocculantit seems to be hating an hdd 09:51
flocculantso it could well be hardware09:51
flocculantbluesabre: no idea - not been able to look if it is the pixbuf update09:51
flocculantthough if I mount the hdd in a cradle and usb3 it - it's fine and gdisk doesn't complain about it 09:52
bluesabreI have a cosmic vm from 12 days ago, I can test with it09:52
flocculantif you could do that - that would be great - all my iso's etc are on the hdd on the desk :D09:53
flocculantif nothing else it'll prove the updates are ok :p09:54
flocculanthopefully back in a bit09:58
flocculantman intel graphics really aren't too good here ... originally I wondered if it was the nvidia card dying - rather than something disky 10:03
bluesabreupdates almost done running10:05
bluesabrehad 286 new packages10:05
flocculantha ha 10:07
flocculantI assume there was gdk-pixbuf in the list?10:07
bluesabreyeah10:07
bluesabreamong other g*k things10:07
flocculantyea10:08
flocculantit balked when setting it up here - and got the warning I pastebinned10:08
bluesabrelooks like it booted and logged in10:09
flocculantthat's good - just me knackered10:09
flocculantdue a reinstall - managed a whole dev cycle without it last time \o/10:10
flocculantbit confused why I can mount the hdd fine in a cradle - but not in the machine, unless the sata cable is breaking down10:11
bluesabreseems strange10:12
bluesabrecan you boot from the cradle?10:12
flocculantand I can see why the gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders command fails 10:12
flocculantit's a data drive10:12
bluesabreah, gotcha10:12
flocculantfrom the changelog > Remove /usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders symlink from -dev package.10:12
flocculantso lets remove that - but not the directive to use it if something breaks ...10:13
flocculantsigh10:13
flocculantright - going to take the desktop apart and put this drive back in ... could be some time - thankfully it's a public holiday today10:18
flocculantso that's ok now10:25
flocculantapparently ...10:26
brainwashbluesabre: any final thought on bug 1754872 ?10:49
ubottubug 1754872 in xubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) "apt install xubuntu-desktop does not resolve dependencies properly" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/175487210:49
flocculantbluesabre: gremlins ...11:01
flocculantbrainwash: hi :)11:01
flocculantbluesabre: reinstalled cosmic - so whatever it was is gone now - but I did report the pixbuf symlink issue11:02
brainwashhello flocculant 11:49
ochosiflocculant: good to hear, i'll also try updating packages again tonight then ;)14:59
flocculant:)16:02
Spassflocculant, my VM 18.10 install works good here, but I update it pretty regularly, I can try on my "real" 18.10 install on a different disk, that one I didn't upgrade in quite some time16:58
SpassI'll check that now, brb17:00
Spassmy HDD 18.10 install seems to work fine, over 450 packages were upgraded - https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/2bbwc2cmFG/17:37
Spassbtw, it looks like a mess after I was testing that nasty "screen edge" issue - https://ibb.co/e8JRNp17:38
Spassand after that 450+ packages and reboot I just needed to do full-upgrade with these - https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/TGMgVynsXB/17:39
flocculantSpass: yea - pretty much convinced it was a local hw issue given that 18.04 gave up on me too18:53
flocculantochosi: :) glad it turned out to be me only - but thought I would say something just in case ...18:54
flocculantwell actually - I'd rather it was global - seem to have dodgy 3Tb drive ...18:55
flocculantbut you know :D18:55
ochosiflocculant: yeah, thanks for mentioning it anyway!21:26
Unit193bluesabre: Is there a reason we're behind on xfce4-settings?23:43
bluesabreUnit193: I think debian was running behind because the latest release was minor... maybe?23:48
Unit193Not according to my page, Debian already has it.  I thought there was some slight issue.23:48
