IrcsomeBot<ItsMeBhai> @Prab, If you need help in installing PHP, Apache, etc this is a good starting point: … https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-linux-apache-mysql-php-lamp-stack-on-ubuntu-16-0402:30
lordievaderGood morning06:12
tomtehi there, I run kubuntu with plasma here and it creates some default folders like Pictures, Templates, Public...11:46
tomtehow do I get rid of them permanently?11:47
anarchotaoistHello! On a Dell Precision 5520 I am running Kubuntu BB. I have wobble when scrolling, red and green striped icons when I awaken the laptop and sometimes a fractured desktop. Can anyone give advice?12:41
diogenes_anarchotaoist, have you run plasma with no issues on that machine before?12:46
anarchotaoistNo. It came pre-installed with Ubuntu 16.04. I put in a new larger drive and installed Kubuntu.12:48
diogenes_anarchotaoist, inxi -Fx | nc termbin.com 999912:49
anarchotaoist@diogenes Sorry, what does that mean? I am new to Linux.12:50
anarchotaoistterminal command?12:51
diogenes_anarchotaoist, yes, that a terminal command that will give you a link in the terminal12:53
diogenes_you need to share the link you get here12:53
anarchotaoistok. thanks. I need to install inxi apparently. I quickly do that.12:54
diogenes_ok12:55
lordievaderIf you want to know the system details it is often easier to ask for `lspci -k` output. Lspci is more likely installed than inxi.12:56
anarchotaoisthttp://termbin.com/ujzd12:57
diogenes_anarchotaoist, what command did you run :)12:58
anarchotaoistnxi -Fx | nc termbin.com 9999  -is that wrong?12:59
diogenes_anarchotaoist, it's unreadable ok try what lordievader suggested, run: lspci -k | nc termbin.com 999912:59
diogenes_share the link here12:59
anarchotaoistOk, I just pasted that in the browser and saw computer specifications but will try the other command.13:00
lordievaderLovely those color escape codes, eh 😋13:00
diogenes_:)13:00
anarchotaoistOk, I have specs from "lspci -k"13:02
diogenes_and?13:03
anarchotaoistshould I put "lspci -k nc termbin.com 9999"13:04
diogenes_lspci -k | nc termbin.com 999913:04
diogenes_and you get a link13:04
anarchotaoistok13:04
anarchotaoisthttp://termbin.com/nhc713:05
lordievaderIs it a server?13:06
lordievaderOh wait, you said it is a laptop.13:07
anarchotaoistIs my laptop a server?13:07
lordievaderLaptop with a Xeon?13:07
lordievaderOdd13:07
anarchotaoistYes, a Dell Precision 552013:07
anarchotaoistIntel and Nvidia13:07
diogenes_and nvidia quadro of :(13:07
diogenes_anarchotaoist, ok now run this: glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"13:08
diogenes_paste here the line you get in terminal13:08
anarchotaoistok13:08
anarchotaoiststring: Quadro M1200/PCIe/SSE213:09
diogenes_hmm so you switched the driver to nvidia in nvidia-settings?13:09
anarchotaoistYes, Nvidia 390.48 I think13:10
diogenes_go back to nvidia settings > PRIME switch to intel, reboot and come back, see if you still got issues13:10
anarchotaoistok13:11
anarchotaoistHello. I have rebooted. I have not been able to reproduce the red & green striped icons upon awakening the laptop from sleep. That said, it does not happen every time. I am still getting very bad wobble/ripple when scrolling.13:19
diogenes_anarchotaoist, one more time run: glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"13:22
diogenes_paste here what you get13:22
anarchotaoiststring: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 (Kaby Lake GT2)13:23
diogenes_anarchotaoist, ok now we can try to do a trick13:23
anarchotaoistok13:23
diogenes_in terminal run: ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d13:24
diogenes_just tell me what you get in terminal13:24
anarchotaoistls: cannot access '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d': No such file or directory13:25
diogenes_ok13:25
diogenes_run: sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d13:25
diogenes_just say when done13:26
anarchotaoistok, new empty line13:26
diogenes_now: sudo touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf13:27
anarchotaoistdoen13:27
anarchotaoistdone13:27
diogenes_now: sudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf13:27
anarchotaoistExecuting Kate as root is not possible. To edit files as root use:13:29
anarchotaoistExecuting Kate as root is not possible. To edit files as root use:13:29
anarchotaoistSUDO_EDITOR=kate sudoedit <file>13:29
diogenes_ok try: pkexec kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf13:29
anarchotaoistsame response13:30
diogenes_ok can you use nano vim?13:31
anarchotaoistkate sudoedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf opened Kate!13:33
anarchotaoistYes?13:33
diogenes_ok now open this link: http://dpaste.com/3W0SY4S13:33
diogenes_paste into that new opened document13:34
diogenes_save, close13:34
anarchotaoistdone13:34
diogenes_after that run: cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf | nc termbin.com 999913:35
diogenes_share the link here13:35
anarchotaoisthttp://termbin.com/fhqe13:35
diogenes_open that document again and remove those 1 2 3 4 5 numbers so you leave only the text13:36
anarchotaoistok13:37
diogenes_after that run: cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf | nc termbin.com 999913:37
diogenes_share13:37
anarchotaoisthttp://termbin.com/etp713:38
diogenes_looks good this time, now you go ahead and reboot BUT be careful, if for some reason you are welcomed with a black screen, you need to switch to VT by alt+ctrl+f1/2/3 and run: sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf.bak13:39
diogenes_write somewhere that command13:39
diogenes_and then reboot again13:39
BluesKajHey folks13:39
anarchotaoistok13:40
diogenes_hey BluesKaj13:40
anarchotaoistgulp13:40
BluesKajhy diogenes_13:40
lordievaderHey BluesKaj13:47
lordievaderHow are you doing?13:47
BluesKajhey lordievader doing fine ,and you?13:54
lordievaderDoing good here. Playing with wireguard. It is so much easier than ipsec 😁13:55
BluesKajno kidding :-)13:55
lordievaderYes, I know. Everything is easier than ipsec 😋13:56
BluesKajconsidered wireguard, but already use a decent vpn so it's probly not worth the effort13:57
BluesKajwireguard seems to be a different protocol then the regular ones like openvpn etc13:58
BluesKajthen=than13:58
anarchotaoistHello @diogenes_ That seems to have taken a lot of the wobble out of the scrolling - however it is a more jagged now! ? Opening the laptop from sleep does not fuzz the icons. Cool! Will it work this way if I switch back to Nvidia? Thanks!13:58
diogenes_anarchotaoist, that's the problem, it might not work if you switch to nvidia and nvidia probably won't even start so whenever you switch to nvidia, you need to run: sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf.bak13:59
anarchotaoistoh really!! It is Nvidia that has access to the dedicated graphics, yes, that allows better working in Gimp, Krita etc, yes?14:02
diogenes_anarchotaoist, nvidia yes but your nvidia is quadro so it won't be that much performant14:05
anarchotaoistok. mv = move, yes? Can I just copy the file to the other directory so they are in both places or does it not work that way?14:06
diogenes_in this case mv = rename14:07
diogenes_it will rename the conf to conf.back14:07
anarchotaoistah, yes same directory14:07
diogenes_to switch it back: mv conf.bak .conf14:07
anarchotaoisttricky14:08
diogenes_but you understood how it works?14:08
anarchotaoistnot really. :)14:08
diogenes_anarchotaoist, onw more trick you could try14:08
anarchotaoistok14:09
diogenes_to gain more performance and less lag14:09
diogenes_go to system settings > desktop > hardware (somewhere there i can't remember exactly) you need to switch the compositor backend from opengl to xrender14:09
diogenes_reboot afterwards14:09
anarchotaoistok. I already had it set to xrender14:10
diogenes_then you can try to switch it to opengl and see what you get with this new intel configuration'14:10
diogenes_maybe you gain some smooth performance14:10
anarchotaoistok, cheers. Thanks for your help and persistence!14:11
diogenes_np14:11
madghosthello15:58
madghosthow I can change driver for my network card ?15:58
lordievadermadghost: Why do you want to?16:35
lordievaderOther question, you actually have more than one available?16:36
