SteedalionDoes anyone use compiz on Lxde? Is it any good? Will it help with gaming?00:03
wxli'm sure someone uses it. it's great if you want to tie up your system resources in a bunch of needless eyecandy, so no, it probably won't help with gaming :)00:05
SteedalionIt's just the screen tearing that I have a problem with.00:07
SteedalionI don't want to struggle for hours but if it integrates smoothly I'd like to try it.00:07
wxlprobably driver issues more than anything00:08
wxlbut if you want just try a simple compositor, load up compton00:08
lynorianI honestly am not bothered by screen tearing at all I can't notice it00:09
SteedalionCool, I'll investigate.00:16
SteedalionSo @wxl do I just set it to use openGL for rendering and disable all the sparkles?00:18
wxlSteedalion: sure.00:19
SteedalionThanks.00:20
SteedalionOkay so I got it to work, no hassel. It is actually installed on 18.04 by defaut. Some findings to anyone interested.00:56
SteedalionGaming, was a no-no. The game has it's own rendering thing and having 2 running (compton+game) has no benefit.00:57
SteedalionFirefox renders a bit faster.00:57
SteedalionLxde has a bit of window lag when dragging. Funny I use lxqt in a VM and that lag wasn't present. LXQT (even in a VM) handles the rendering better. Strange but a good sign for QT,00:58
wxlwell qt is way more modern00:59
wxlgtk2 which is what lxde is... is not00:59
wxlgtk3 is better, but still..00:59
xdruppihow can i help with Lubuntu development?03:11
xdruppiwhy is that lubuntu 18.04 LTS has only python304:29
xdruppibut lubuntu 18.10 has both python2 and 3?04:29
yu99iego ask the python people04:57
podlechhi, after installing lubuntu 18.10, I started facing the same issue as https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2018/10/msg00007.html. What do you recommend me to do?05:42
podlechI installed 4.15.0-1024-oem to get acpi work again. How can this get fixed in 4.18?05:44
lubotPodlech was added by: Podlech06:09
xdruppiwhy did Lubuntu change from low-end systems to something different?18:05
apt-ghettoWhy do you think this?18:05
apt-ghettoIt is moving away from old (very old) hardware18:06
wxlwe just don't make decisions exclusively on low-end systems only18:06
xdruppii think it's an interesting approach and I'm really liking Lubuntu as a new user, but I kinda got rather.. confused? if this is supposed to be lightweight, why not be as much as possible18:08
wxlbecause that involves a system that has no graphics, technically18:09
xdruppidon't get me wrong though, im pretty sure most modern computers can handle lubuntu really well18:09
apt-ghettohow do you define "lightweight"?18:09
xdruppiwxl is right though18:09
wxlactually "light as possible" would mean custom compiling a kernel with only the drivers you wanted18:09
wxlmaybe skipping initramfs18:09
wxletc etc etc18:09
xdruppiapt-ghetto: hmm... im not sure, honestly when I think of "Lightweight" i think of the most simple stuff, not even configuration options18:10
xdruppioh well, it was just an opinion18:10
xdruppii guess theres much more to it18:10
wxllubuntu is a balance between light and low footprint18:10
xdruppiwxl: sounds about right18:13
xdruppii feel like an idiot mentioning this, but the 18.10 lubuntu update was really great, except the soundtrack in the background19:17
xdruppii mean19:17
xdruppithe video...19:17
wxl?19:17
wxlin case it's not clear, i have zero idea what you're referring to, xdruppi19:20
lubot<Wolfenprey> soundtrack in the background? Maybe the wallpaper?19:22
xdruppion the download part of lubuntu website, there's a video on 18.10 update19:22
xdruppialthough i shouldn't mention it here considering nobody is the creator of that video19:22
xdruppiin here19:22
xdruppithe song in the background of that video makes it really look unprofessional19:23
wxlwhere is this?19:23
wxlprovide the link19:23
xdruppihttps://lubuntu.me/cosmic-released/19:23
xdruppii dont know, maybe im exaggerating19:23
wxli don't find it bad at all19:23
wxli've heard similar jingles in other commercials19:24
xdruppii've heard that song so many times19:24
xdruppii think it has lost its status as a song19:24
xdruppifor me19:24
wxlthere's no accounting for taste19:25
lubot<Wolfenprey> ah, the video from YT! XD19:25
lubot<Wolfenprey> Elevator Sountrack19:26
xdruppiyeah19:26
xdruppican someone tell me about this thing19:41
xdruppisnapd?19:41
xdruppiis ubuntu people changing it for apt?19:41
lubot<tsimonq2> NOT us19:45
lubot<tsimonq2> We will likely never ship snaps by default unless forced.19:45
xdruppitsimonq2: whats the problem with snaps?19:46
xdruppijust curious19:46
tewardxdruppi: that's a long rabbit hole you don't want to go down just now19:46
tewardtrust me19:46
tewardand trust wxl who knows more about it than me :p19:46
teward*tasers @tsimonq2 before he can reply*19:47
xdruppiteward: alright, i'll trust ya19:47
tewardxdruppi: see PMs.19:48
lubot<tsimonq2> They have a 30 second start time, desktop integration is nonexistent, Canonical's snap store is proprietary, snaps are huge, all snaps are automounted and continue to be even when the latest revision is being used, there's no seeded snap policy when there clearly should be one, and we have no need to because apt packages do everythin19:48
lubotg we need.19:48
lubot<tsimonq2> @teward [<teward> *tasers @tsimonq2 before he can reply*], Just took me a while. :P19:48
lubot<tsimonq2> That's just the surface level complaints.19:48
tewardtsimonq2: you need to write a manifesto and post it somewhere19:49
lubot<tsimonq2> Hah19:49
tewardthat way you don't drag others into the rabbit hole via IRC or support mediums19:49
xdruppihm...19:49
lubot<tsimonq2> Plus, the marketing team seems to be double the size of the development team. :P19:49
lubot<Wolfenprey> Ok, FLATPAKS and APPIMAGES.19:50
lubot<Wolfenprey> jus kidding19:50
wxldiscover supports them all19:55
* wxl ducks19:55
lubot<tsimonq2> @wxl [<wxl> discover supports them all], They do19:56
lubot<tsimonq2> But my question is19:56
lubot<tsimonq2> (Document) https://telegram.lubuntu.me/l2BEWLvs/file_4714.mp419:56
wxlyou know the answer19:56
wxlyou just don't like it19:56
lubot<Wolfenprey> i only tested one snap because it has a giraffe19:56
wxlwow that's random19:57
lubot<Wolfenprey> lol19:57
lubot<Wolfenprey> i know19:57
lubot<tsimonq2> @Wolfenprey [i only tested one snap because it has a giraffe], OHMYGIRAFFE19:57
lubot<tsimonq2> YAAAS19:57
lubot<Wolfenprey> hahaha19:57
lubot<tsimonq2> I did compile that by myself out of spite. :P19:58
lubot<Wolfenprey> maybe i want to compile it19:58
lubot<Wolfenprey> my daughter loves that game19:58
lubot<Wolfenprey> (me too, but nevermind)19:58
xdruppidoes anybody know ho can i set up quassel to connect automatically to my account?22:23
