[00:03] Does anyone use compiz on Lxde? Is it any good? Will it help with gaming? [00:05] i'm sure someone uses it. it's great if you want to tie up your system resources in a bunch of needless eyecandy, so no, it probably won't help with gaming :) [00:07] It's just the screen tearing that I have a problem with. [00:07] I don't want to struggle for hours but if it integrates smoothly I'd like to try it. [00:08] probably driver issues more than anything [00:08] but if you want just try a simple compositor, load up compton [00:09] I honestly am not bothered by screen tearing at all I can't notice it [00:16] Cool, I'll investigate. [00:18] So @wxl do I just set it to use openGL for rendering and disable all the sparkles? [00:19] Steedalion: sure. [00:20] Thanks. [00:56] Okay so I got it to work, no hassel. It is actually installed on 18.04 by defaut. Some findings to anyone interested. [00:57] Gaming, was a no-no. The game has it's own rendering thing and having 2 running (compton+game) has no benefit. [00:57] Firefox renders a bit faster. [00:58] Lxde has a bit of window lag when dragging. Funny I use lxqt in a VM and that lag wasn't present. LXQT (even in a VM) handles the rendering better. Strange but a good sign for QT, [00:59] well qt is way more modern [00:59] gtk2 which is what lxde is... is not [00:59] gtk3 is better, but still.. [03:11] how can i help with Lubuntu development? [04:29] why is that lubuntu 18.04 LTS has only python3 [04:29] but lubuntu 18.10 has both python2 and 3? [04:57] go ask the python people [05:42] hi, after installing lubuntu 18.10, I started facing the same issue as https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2018/10/msg00007.html. What do you recommend me to do? [05:44] I installed 4.15.0-1024-oem to get acpi work again. How can this get fixed in 4.18? [06:09] Podlech was added by: Podlech [18:05] why did Lubuntu change from low-end systems to something different? [18:05] Why do you think this? [18:06] It is moving away from old (very old) hardware [18:06] we just don't make decisions exclusively on low-end systems only [18:08] i think it's an interesting approach and I'm really liking Lubuntu as a new user, but I kinda got rather.. confused? if this is supposed to be lightweight, why not be as much as possible [18:09] because that involves a system that has no graphics, technically [18:09] don't get me wrong though, im pretty sure most modern computers can handle lubuntu really well [18:09] how do you define "lightweight"? [18:09] wxl is right though [18:09] actually "light as possible" would mean custom compiling a kernel with only the drivers you wanted [18:09] maybe skipping initramfs [18:09] etc etc etc [18:10] apt-ghetto: hmm... im not sure, honestly when I think of "Lightweight" i think of the most simple stuff, not even configuration options [18:10] oh well, it was just an opinion [18:10] i guess theres much more to it [18:10] lubuntu is a balance between light and low footprint [18:13] wxl: sounds about right [19:17] i feel like an idiot mentioning this, but the 18.10 lubuntu update was really great, except the soundtrack in the background [19:17] i mean [19:17] the video... [19:17] ? [19:20] in case it's not clear, i have zero idea what you're referring to, xdruppi [19:22] soundtrack in the background? Maybe the wallpaper? [19:22] on the download part of lubuntu website, there's a video on 18.10 update [19:22] although i shouldn't mention it here considering nobody is the creator of that video [19:22] in here [19:23] the song in the background of that video makes it really look unprofessional [19:23] where is this? [19:23] provide the link [19:23] https://lubuntu.me/cosmic-released/ [19:23] i dont know, maybe im exaggerating [19:23] i don't find it bad at all [19:24] i've heard similar jingles in other commercials [19:24] i've heard that song so many times [19:24] i think it has lost its status as a song [19:24] for me [19:25] there's no accounting for taste [19:25] ah, the video from YT! XD [19:26] Elevator Sountrack [19:26] yeah [19:41] can someone tell me about this thing [19:41] snapd? [19:41] is ubuntu people changing it for apt? [19:45] NOT us [19:45] We will likely never ship snaps by default unless forced. [19:46] tsimonq2: whats the problem with snaps? [19:46] just curious [19:46] xdruppi: that's a long rabbit hole you don't want to go down just now [19:46] trust me [19:46] and trust wxl who knows more about it than me :p [19:47] *tasers @tsimonq2 before he can reply* [19:47] teward: alright, i'll trust ya [19:48] xdruppi: see PMs. [19:48] They have a 30 second start time, desktop integration is nonexistent, Canonical's snap store is proprietary, snaps are huge, all snaps are automounted and continue to be even when the latest revision is being used, there's no seeded snap policy when there clearly should be one, and we have no need to because apt packages do everythin [19:48] g we need. [19:48] @teward [ *tasers @tsimonq2 before he can reply*], Just took me a while. :P [19:48] That's just the surface level complaints. [19:49] tsimonq2: you need to write a manifesto and post it somewhere [19:49] Hah [19:49] that way you don't drag others into the rabbit hole via IRC or support mediums [19:49] hm... [19:49] Plus, the marketing team seems to be double the size of the development team. :P [19:50] Ok, FLATPAKS and APPIMAGES. [19:50] jus kidding [19:55] discover supports them all [19:55] * wxl ducks [19:56] @wxl [ discover supports them all], They do [19:56] But my question is [19:56] (Document) https://telegram.lubuntu.me/l2BEWLvs/file_4714.mp4 [19:56] you know the answer [19:56] you just don't like it [19:56] i only tested one snap because it has a giraffe [19:57] wow that's random [19:57] lol [19:57] i know [19:57] @Wolfenprey [i only tested one snap because it has a giraffe], OHMYGIRAFFE [19:57] YAAAS [19:57] hahaha [19:58] I did compile that by myself out of spite. :P [19:58] maybe i want to compile it [19:58] my daughter loves that game [19:58] (me too, but nevermind) [22:23] does anybody know ho can i set up quassel to connect automatically to my account?
