GregMcGregorHi, I need some getting tumbler to use a custom thumbnailer03:50
GregMcGregorI am trying to see heif (.heic) image thumbnails in thunar, and I have the appropriate thumbnailer (heif-thumbnailer) installed03:51
GregMcGregorhowever, instead of thumbnails I just see black boxes03:51
GregMcGregorthe mime type image/heif exists in my system and installing heif-thumbnailer also places the appropriate .thumbnailer file in /usr/share/thumbnailers03:52
GregMcGregorand I can see that tumblerd is running03:52
GregMcGregor(plus it works fine for jpegs)03:52
GregMcGregorthis is on xubuntu 16.04, by the way03:55
GregMcGregordon't tell me nobody's here just because it is a Saturday night =P03:56
GregMcGregorand lastly I have verified that heif-thumbnailer is working properly by running it manually03:57
amanda_I wrote a shell script -- sshfs remote-server/directory local-mount-point/ and it works fine in a terminal, but not as a launcher. THe other launcher I made, that runs fusermount -u local-mount-point seems to work fine.04:17
amanda_THe first, I checked the "run in terminal" box and get prompted for a password in a terminal. Nothing seem weird, except that it doesn't work. Any ideas?04:17
syb0rghi, I was GregMcGregor a minute ago. My thumnail question still stands04:26
amanda_syb0rg, I missed it -- what was the question?04:27
syb0rgI am trying to make thunar show thumbnails for .heic (image/heif) files by using heif-thumbnailer. It is installed and working and the appropriate .thumbnail file exists in /usr/share/thumbnailers but my .HEIC files are still just black boxes in thunar04:28
syb0rg^ amanda_04:28
syb0rgor .thumbnailer file rather04:28
syb0rgas to your sshfs question, I may be wrong here but I seem to recall once running into a situation like that and solving it by running sshfs in the background04:30
syb0rgotherwise it died when the terminal closed04:30
syb0rgcould be totally off base though, going off a fuzzy memory here04:30
syb0rgI used nohup if I remember correctly04:31
amanda_And I've got nothing on your heic question... Weird about the nohup though, I'll dork with it.04:32
syb0rgyeah it is an obscure question unfortunately, apple just had to go and use a weird image format =P Good luck with your sshfs issue04:33
amanda_No, Apple? You're silly. :)04:33

brainwashsyb0rg: did you follow this example? https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/tumbler#customized_thumbnailer_for_dds_files10:17
brainwashsyb0rg: oh.. just saw that you are using 16.0410:18
brainwashyou need 18.04 (tumbler 0.2.x)10:19
syb0rgthanks brainwash, thought it might be the version of tumbler but didn't know how to check. Any way to get a more updated version on 16.04? Will a newer version work on 16.04 if compiled from source after removing the tumbler package with apt?10:23
brainwashmaybe10:25
brainwashpersonally, I would try to install the packages from 18.04 first10:26
brainwashcan be downloaded from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tumbler/0.2.1-0ubuntu1/+build/1452062310:26
brainwash-> Built files10:26
brainwashit may or may not install without problems10:27
syb0rgok that is very helpful, I will give that a shot tomorrow. Appreciate the tip!10:27
brainwashother than that, you should consider upgrading to 18.0410:29
syb0rgyeah I use 18.04 on most of my machines, but this is a media machine I set up a couple years ago and generally does fine on 16.04. Then again it will need an upgrade eventually so i just might10:32
