=== brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [03:50] Hi, I need some getting tumbler to use a custom thumbnailer [03:51] I am trying to see heif (.heic) image thumbnails in thunar, and I have the appropriate thumbnailer (heif-thumbnailer) installed [03:51] however, instead of thumbnails I just see black boxes [03:52] the mime type image/heif exists in my system and installing heif-thumbnailer also places the appropriate .thumbnailer file in /usr/share/thumbnailers [03:52] and I can see that tumblerd is running [03:52] (plus it works fine for jpegs) [03:55] this is on xubuntu 16.04, by the way [03:56] don't tell me nobody's here just because it is a Saturday night =P [03:57] and lastly I have verified that heif-thumbnailer is working properly by running it manually [04:17] I wrote a shell script -- sshfs remote-server/directory local-mount-point/ and it works fine in a terminal, but not as a launcher. THe other launcher I made, that runs fusermount -u local-mount-point seems to work fine. [04:17] THe first, I checked the "run in terminal" box and get prompted for a password in a terminal. Nothing seem weird, except that it doesn't work. Any ideas? [04:26] hi, I was GregMcGregor a minute ago. My thumnail question still stands [04:27] syb0rg, I missed it -- what was the question? [04:28] I am trying to make thunar show thumbnails for .heic (image/heif) files by using heif-thumbnailer. It is installed and working and the appropriate .thumbnail file exists in /usr/share/thumbnailers but my .HEIC files are still just black boxes in thunar [04:28] ^ amanda_ [04:28] or .thumbnailer file rather [04:30] as to your sshfs question, I may be wrong here but I seem to recall once running into a situation like that and solving it by running sshfs in the background [04:30] otherwise it died when the terminal closed [04:30] could be totally off base though, going off a fuzzy memory here [04:31] I used nohup if I remember correctly [04:32] And I've got nothing on your heic question... Weird about the nohup though, I'll dork with it. [04:33] yeah it is an obscure question unfortunately, apple just had to go and use a weird image format =P Good luck with your sshfs issue [04:33] No, Apple? You're silly. :) === rud0lf is now known as rudolph === rudolph is now known as rud0lf [10:17] syb0rg: did you follow this example? https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/tumbler#customized_thumbnailer_for_dds_files [10:18] syb0rg: oh.. just saw that you are using 16.04 [10:19] you need 18.04 (tumbler 0.2.x) [10:23] thanks brainwash, thought it might be the version of tumbler but didn't know how to check. Any way to get a more updated version on 16.04? Will a newer version work on 16.04 if compiled from source after removing the tumbler package with apt? [10:25] maybe [10:26] personally, I would try to install the packages from 18.04 first [10:26] can be downloaded from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tumbler/0.2.1-0ubuntu1/+build/14520623 [10:26] -> Built files [10:27] it may or may not install without problems [10:27] ok that is very helpful, I will give that a shot tomorrow. Appreciate the tip! [10:29] other than that, you should consider upgrading to 18.04 [10:32] yeah I use 18.04 on most of my machines, but this is a media machine I set up a couple years ago and generally does fine on 16.04. Then again it will need an upgrade eventually so i just might [15:13] Hi, since Xub18.10 my screen remains black after shutdown. The screen is locked and i need to type my password but in a black screen without any feedback in case of errorr. It happens to me on 4 laptotps of diferend brands. Any idea? [15:13] xubuntu11d: after shutdown? [15:14] after suspension sorry :_) [15:14] that's bug 1801609 [15:14] bug 1801609 in xorg-server (Ubuntu) "Fails to deactivate dpms off mode after user initiated wake-up events(not system-suspended, just locked and dpms active)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1801609 [15:14] most likely Intel related [15:15] do all your laptops use some Intel GPU? [15:15] hummm [15:15] probably [15:15] i need to check [15:16] thank you @brainwash and @ubottu, I'm going to investigate more. [15:17] the linked bug report has some info, but nothing has been forwarded to the Xorg or Intel developers yet [15:18] as workaround you can install and use another screen locker [15:18] like xscreensaver [17:43] hey [17:43] anybody here? [17:46] hello [17:47] umm how do i get videos to play correctly? [17:47] they are choppy at hd resolutions [17:49] xubuntu03w: videos?
