Laneywhat's the news?09:05
willcookeStill no snow, despite the newspapers telling me I should brace for an icey blast.09:05
dufluLaney, it's Monday, sunny, and Nvidia issues are more complex than I imagined09:05

dufluCan anyone please accept for bionic: bug 1805444 ?09:22
ubot5bug 1805444 in mutter (Ubuntu) "[nvidia] Fail to launch gnome-shell (Wayland) on Ubuntu with EGLDevice backend" [Medium,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/180544409:22
dufluAlso, good morning tjaalton. Did you have a bug (or any URL) relating to the conflict between the new nvidia-410 and libnvidia-egl-wayland-dev?09:24
dufluI recall seeing you mention it last week09:25
willcookeduflu, should #1805444 go via the rls-bb-incoming process, or is that not needed here?09:29
willcookeI think I have the powers to accept it, but before I click just wanted to double check we're not short-cutting the proper way of doing things09:29
willcookeI think not, but want to be sure09:29
tjaaltonduflu: hi, on debian yes, not lp09:31
dufluTa09:31
Laneywillcooke: I'd only accept nominations if the bug has gone through the process, or if there is a fix actually being uploaded (in that case it is required as a part of the SRU process).09:34
LaneyNothing about preparing a fix requires an accepted nomination09:34
Laneymorning didrocks oSoMoN :>09:34
oSoMoNgood morning Laney09:34
dufluIt's only a matter of preemtively avoiding complaints. At the moment all tasks are Fix Released while the bug is still active. That said, even accepting the nomination has the problem of such bugs still never showing up in the default search09:35
duflu*preemptively09:36
dufluNot that that really stops people too much. Seems a lot of people use Google (or something), because they often land on closed bugs and try to join the discussion after a bug is closed09:37
willcookeduflu, Is there still a lot of work to do in order to back port the fixes to B?09:37
dufluwillcooke, no there is nothing blocking it now. We only have other issues to investigate as to why it doesn't really work properly even when built09:38
dufluI'm trying to figure out how to say that without confusing people09:38
willcookekk, but that's a different issue, based on what you said in the bug09:39
willcooke?09:39
dufluwillcooke, a *collection* of different issues09:39
willcookeheh09:39
willcookeoki, I will add the tag for that bug, then we can review it tomorrow and get it assigned09:39
dufluwillcooke, simplified a bit but I think I've now explained it in bug 180544409:55
ubot5bug 1805444 in mutter (Ubuntu) "[nvidia] Fail to launch gnome-shell (Wayland) on Ubuntu with EGLDevice backend" [Medium,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/180544409:55
willcookenice one, thanks duflu09:56
willcookeIt is complicated isn't it?!09:56
=== cpaelzer__ is now known as cpaelzer
dufluwillcooke, that's not quite everything either. Looks like maybe X apps (Xwayland) will still refuse to use the Nvidia driver09:58
dufluBut I'm hoping that's one of the other bugs in disguise. Wait and see09:58
willcookeheh10:01
Laneyduflu: can you also explain it in a way that will help to assess whether it should be release nominated please? i.e. what the visible problem / result of any fix will be (on the bug ideally)10:09
Laneydon't know about others but I wouldn't know from reading that bug how to judge rls-ness10:09
andyrockmorning all!10:34
oSoMoNgood morning andyrock10:36
dufluHi andyrock10:41
seb128good morning desktopers!11:17
willcookehey seb12811:18
willcookehey andyrock11:18
seb128hey willcooke11:20
seb128bah, internet is down so I'm connecting to a shared connection from around but signal is weak and it's laggy/slow, one of those days :/11:23
amurrayhey desktop team - just a quick question - how do you normally test freerdp[2] - I am doing a security update for it and so if anyone has any advice on how I should test it to make sure I don't break anything I'd be keen to know :)11:25
Laneyhey seb128, :(11:28
Laneyhow's it going?11:29
Laneyamurray: not ignoring you, I just don't know, sorry11:29
Laney(was it for the remote desktop thing we had in lightdm?)11:29
seb128amurray, same as Laney, I don't know much about rdp testing, maybe willcooke can help you though?11:30
willcookeamurray, pondering, one sec11:31
amurrayLaney: I don't have any specific functionality in mind - I'm just keen to try and make sure I don't inadvertently break it so I was hoping to try and replicate whatever standard testing is done before I publish it11:31
amurrayseb128 willcooke: cheers11:31
seb128Laney, hey. Going ok, internet line is down and the baby got a stomach bug which made for a fun sunday/night :/ I'm staying with him this morning (he's sleeping now) and then going out to work in the afternoon11:31
seb128using a crappy shared internet meanwhile :p11:31
willcookeamurray, this is the server side right?11:31
amurraywillcooke: yeah11:32
willcookejust confirming what the backend is for gnome-shell's "share my desktop"11:33
willcookenot freerdp11:33
willcookeand the Microsoft work uses xrdp11:34
willcookesooo, I think a simple smoke test is about all we can do.11:34
willcookeamurray, I can set up some machines here and test it for you if you like11:34
amurraywillcooke: sure :) but I am happy to try and do something myself if you don't have time - anyway, I'll upload to https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa and if you get a chance to test that'd be great :)11:36
willcookeWe should test basic functionality at a range of encoding/speed options and probably audio support11:36
willcookeamurray, is there a bug associated with the update too?11:50
amurraywillcooke: no, just 6 CVEs https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/freerdp2.html11:51
willcookejust six?!?! ;)11:52
amurraywillcooke: yes just 6 :) - thanks again for any help you can give - I'm off to bed so will check scrollback in the morning - cheers11:52
willcookenight amurray11:53
Laneywillcooke: it's only in main for xenial11:58
Laneyremmina-plugin-rdp11:59
Laneyguess it was just as a client11:59
willcookeyeah, looking a bit more at this, I think it is only the client side12:00
Laneywait12:00
Laneyit's freerdp2 now12:00
Laney🙄12:00
Laneystill, just remmina stuff12:01
willcookeso I'm thinking that I enable the security ppa, make sure it updates everything, and if remmina still works, then everything should be good12:05
willcookedamn it xrdp13:53
willcookeah ha13:53
willcookeand with that, it works13:53
willcookesuccess!14:23
willcookeamurray, I'll follow up by email too, but FYI:  Got an rdp server running on one machine (which is a PITA, but a story for another day) and tested it from a vanilla B machine via reminna which is an remote desktop client which uses freerdp2 libs for rdp.  That worked as expected.  I upgraded to the new freerdp libs from your ppa and reseted.  It still worked.  So as far as I can tell, your fixes didnt break anything.14:25
jbichakenvandine: good morning. I heard you got some snow.14:25
kenvandinejbicha: lots!14:25
kenvandineabout 8 inches yesterday14:25
