JackFrostYeah, it's just for setting avatars and whatnot.00:03
JjThank you!00:03

Alvaro-ChileHola alguien en español?02:02
kubast2what could cause a "Scratchy" sound on an audio jack?14:23
kubast2it happens at times when I open a new tab in firefox14:23
kubast2I haven't had it happen on kubuntu, so I thought it is some pulseaudio unrelated issue14:23
bodicceaOnly when you do this ?14:24
kubast2yes it happens at random when I open a new tab and go to some site14:24
kubast2it doesn't happen every time I use firefox14:24
bodicceaAnd only for firefox ?14:25
kubast2I don't use other browsers and no it doesn't happen with mpv or vlc14:25
kubast2nor with some unrelated irc action14:25
bodicceaStrange. Do you have a plugin which tries to make a sound when opening a new tab ?14:28
kubast2nope I just have the openh264 plugin that's about it14:29
kubast2and I doubt ublock origin extension does something like this14:29
diogenes_bodiccea, are you the queen of celts?14:30
bodicceaHum. strange. Firefox does not access audio normally when opening a new tab. You may try restarting in safe mode, just for a quick test14:31
bodicceadiogenes_: Queen of the Iceni ;-)14:31
diogenes_i knew that :)14:32
diogenes_what if you try a different browser to see if you get the same behaviour14:33
kubast2Yeah I will see14:33
bodicceaTo restart FF in safe mode (temporarily) go to the right menu (the 3 horizontal lines icon), then "help", then "restart with addons disabled"14:37
kubast2it doesn't happen right now, I checked dmesg for recent messages but there was nothing in there, maybe it happens during long idle periods14:42
bodicceaTry to restart with no addons when it happens again (and also try another browser, opening the same tabs), and come back then ;-)15:00
arechi, after upgrading to 18.10 pulseaudio hasn't an output-device anymore. I tried to purge and reinstall pulseaudio but with no success.16:17
areci purged now alsa-base as well, after an alsa force-reload if have my audio-device back until i reboot, but after a reboot I have to force-reload alsa again.16:47
Kumoolah pulseaudio16:48
Kumoolbane of everyone's existence16:48
arecto sad that there aren't any proper alternatives16:48
Kumoolarec: to be honest IDK why pulseaudio even exist, but anyway i'll try to help, so what does { systemctl status | grep pulseaudio } output?17:09
arechttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/gnDt9VMdGv/17:10
Kumoolossv4 does everything that pulseaudio does17:11
arecwell, it's working (for now) after i force-reloaded alsa17:11
arecshould I reboot?17:11
Kumoolmine is just 5905 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog17:12
Kumoolno no, you can probably just kill everything17:12
arecprobably you dont have an inidicator in your panel?17:12
KumoolI do17:13
arecif i kill pulseaudio, it will autospawn again and have a device and plays sound17:14
Kumooltry {pulseaudio --kill;pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog}17:15
Kumoolalso pulseaudio --dump-conf | pastebinit17:16
Kumoolit doesn't need to --daemonize=no if its properly configured17:17
arecfirst command doesn't change anything (except the pid of course)17:18
arechttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/3vsDZVdncb/17:18
arecthe internet said i should remove timidity-daemon, but i haven't have it installed17:21
Kumoolarec: can you ask in #ubuntu17:21
arecI found just this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/180153817:23
ubottuLaunchpad bug 210472 in timidity (Ubuntu) "duplicate for #1801538 Timidity daemon doesn't play nice with pulse audio" [High,Confirmed]17:23
arecill try and ask otherwise in #ubuntu. hopefully they will not forward me to here :D17:23
arecthanks for your help!17:24
Kumoolnah, never17:24
Kumoolhey I tried :)17:24
Kumoollol, just /join #ubuntu17:26
Kumoolarec:17:26
arecdisableing timidity-service seems to work, but I think this shouldn't be the perfect solution17:26
Kumooli thought you didn't have it installed17:26
arectimidity-package is installed. otherwhere it where suggested to remove timidity-daemon, which i haven't installed17:27
Kumoolah17:27
Kumooldo you need timidity?17:27
arectbh i'm not sure17:28
Kumooltry removing it, unless you're playing midi files or connecting a midi instrument I don't think it's necessary17:29
Kumoolif you are then you might need a solution17:29
Kumooli still think you should /join #ubuntu17:29
arecI'm not sure if any game need it17:30
Kumooldon't have to leave the channel btw17:30
arecI haven't left the channel, I reboot ;)17:30
Kumoolah17:30
areci cannot join #ubuntu17:31
arecthey are forwarding me to #ubuntu-unregged, even after i have registered my nick17:32
Kumoolah17:32
Kumoolnevermind then17:32
Kumoolpacmd list-source-outputs | pastebinit17:35
arec0 source output(s) available.17:36
arecbut now i have sound output17:36
Kumoolpacmd info then17:37
arechttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SFJJ3nwW8Q/17:38
arecah, now i can join ubuntu, i had to mail-verify my account17:39
arecI'll ask them how I have to configure timidity properly.17:44
Kumooldon't ask that, ask your first question and paste that last pastebin17:44
Kumooli don't timidity is the problem17:45
Kumoolhowever i don't have it installed, if you want just remove it17:46
arectimidity can work with nice soundfonts which makes midis sounds much better17:49
Kumooldid you try to remove timidity to see if it actually is the problem?17:50
arecThe problem disappeared after disabling the timidity service17:50
Kumoolah17:51
arecas i wrote above ;)17:51
Kumoolhttps://askubuntu.com/questions/822303/timidity-and-pulse-audio-playback17:53
areci think this references to the timidity application, not to the midi playback service, or im wrong?17:54
Kumoolno clue, anyway i'm giving up, also you can select soundfonts in audacious amidi plugin, I'm sure other players as well18:06
arecyes, but this will not work in openttd18:06
arecthank for your help, at least i have sound now after stating my system18:06
arecabout this timidity-think i'll try to figure out more. at least we have narrowed the problem to that18:07
arecbut probably you are right and the working sound after diableing timidity is just a side-effect of a deeper problem18:07
KumoolI do not have 18.10 so I can't check to see if its reproducible, you're better off notifying in #ubuntu that the timidity service in 18.10 disables output devices18:09
Kumoolif you make it sound urgent, someone might actually help :P18:10
arecyes, I'm trying, but for now nobody responsed to my questions18:10
Kumoolarec: and that's how you ask a question :)18:22
Kumoolarec: try out Ioria's suggestion18:22
Kumoolarec: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/timidity#Daemon18:23
Kumoollet me know how it goes, off to eat!18:24
areci'm trying, but it seems not enables midimusic again... im try to figure out where there problem is18:24
xubuntu96wI had a unexpected shutdown. My battery was running out and the computer shut down. Is all ok or will there be some files corrupted ?18:35
Kumoolbahahaha18:35
Kumooleverything is fine18:35
Kumoolxubuntu96w: depends on your filesystem18:36
Kumoolxubuntu96w: if you were using a text editor, vim tends to keep a backup of everything you write as well18:37
Kumoolin case of that18:37
Kumoolxubuntu96w: you should however configure xfce-power-manager to go to sleep when the battery goes into critical status and so on18:37
xubuntu96wI dont work with anything.. I change battery, it needed to be uncharged before first use and i forget to turn it off manually.18:38
xubuntu96wIn windows files can be corrupted.. that is why i ask... But linux is another thing i guess.18:39
Kumoolthey can be corrupted as well18:39
Kumoolbut whenever you boot fsck auto launches18:39
Kumooland does a file integrity check and fixes if it finds errors18:40
xubuntu96wAre there any log i can chec for that ?18:41
xubuntu96w*check18:41
Kumoolarec: did you end up uninstalling a soundfont when you uninstalled timidity?18:41
xubuntu96wAll works fine anyway.18:42
Kumoolxubuntu96w: you can check /var/log/syslog to see boot system messages18:42
Kumoolxubuntu96w: if you are in a laptop install laptop mode tools18:42
arecKumool: yes i unistalled but reinstalled also18:44
arecthe missing midi sound seems to be an openttd-related problem18:46
Kumoolopenttd has a channel in fnode i think18:48
Kumoolnever used it, i think you need to have the data files so18:48
arecyes, i found the channel and have the data files18:51
xubuntu96wKumool: When all works as normal and no error messages then all is ok ? What will you do use it and dont care anymore ?18:52
xubuntu96wI guess all is ok.. thank you..18:59
Kumool??19:00
Kumoolyes, don't care about it and move on19:00
Kumoolhowever, you should always have a backup in places, the hdd might fry or mobo or w\e19:01
Kumoolput a bunch of printf statements on your program19:07
Kumoolwoops19:07
puffHi.  I'm trying to figure out how to set the login screen background.  I tried the lightdm greeter app, but when I logged out and logged back in, it still showed the old login screen.  I tried editing lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf and yeah, it already has the path to the image I selected.23:17
puffCould it be a problem with the image being in a personal user account?  Do I have to stick it in /usr/share somewhere, or something?23:17
