fluca1978hi, I've got a problem after upgrading to kubuntu 18.10: I cannot print anymore to windows printer that worked before. Using cups and specifying the printer as smb://username:password@windowMachine/printer always returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED07:34
fluca1978I can connect to the printer via smbclient and therefore credentials are fine07:35
fluca1978I've diffed the printers.conf before and after the upgrade and they are the same07:35
fluca1978any suggestion?07:35
fluca1978if I try to connect with smbclient and print I got the same07:56
fluca1978smb: \> print tmp/test.pdf07:56
fluca1978NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED opening remote file test.pdf-829907:56
Roenie_interesting puzzle, fluca197808:11
Roenie_so you've given that username the right to a shared printer,08:14
Roenie_if you give that same user access to a specific folder share,08:14
Roenie_can it be accessed?08:14
Roenie_becuase if not, the issue is a wider one with smb as a whole08:15
Roenie_and not necessarily related to printing08:15
fluca1978Roenie_: yes, I can access other shares, but they are on other hosts, we have an host doing only printing.08:18
Roenie_just thinking out loud here: I'd check my group policy on the windows system for NTLM(v2) (sorry I can't remember exactly where it is in gpedit) - you can define what methods the windows system accepts, and in my experience, accepting multiple modes instead of just one and making sure the other system uses that, doesn't always work well.08:18
fluca1978Roenie_: I don't have access to the server, and by the way, it was working yesterday and not today after _my_ ubuntu upgrade08:19
Roenie_I'm no expert on smbclient, but is it possible NTLMv1 support was dropped?08:20
fluca1978Roenie_: that could be a possibility08:21
Roenie_To re-enable the poorer NTLM encryption08:30
Roenie_set '--option=clientusentlmv2auth=no' on your smbclient command line, or08:30
Roenie_set 'client ntlmv2 auth = no' in your smb.conf08:30
Roenie_@ fluca197808:33
fluca1978Roenie_: Unknown parameter encountered: "clientusentlmv2auth"08:41
fluca1978and settin gin cmb.conf does not have any result08:41
Roenie_fluca1978: check man smbclient for: -max-protocol08:54
Roenie_(looks like they changed how it handles ntlm versions again)08:55
Roenie_you probably want to try --max-protocol SMB208:56
Roenie_or 3 ;-)08:57
fluca1978Roenie_: using --max-protocol NT1 (!) made it working, while SMB2 made not09:10
fluca1978now, how can I instrument cups to use such protocol?09:10
Roenie_fluca1978: whoa, NT1 is supposed to be the default (at least in the version that's in the kubuntu 18.10 repo)09:35
Roenie_and.. good question :) not a clue09:35
Roenie_I suspected that would be the next hurdle09:39
Roenie_I've only started used cups recently after finally having bought a network printer at home, so it's not a share in the first place09:42
Roenie_and stuff like this is the reason09:42
Roenie_the fact that network printers are 10 times better than usb printers was just a bonus09:47
Roenie_I can't believe how good it is09:48
Roenie_(Brother MFC-L5750DW)09:49
fluca1978Roenie_:The value default refers to the latest supported protocol, currently SMB3_11.10:00
