[02:15] testing - hello [02:16] Is this an active board? [02:16] not very. [02:16] Ok, thank you. [02:16] I'm a long-time ableton user with a little bit of linux experience - decided I'm comitting to the switch [02:16] Just a bit overwhelmed and unsure where to begin, lol [02:17] It depends what you wish to do [02:17] Produce using a workflow similar to ableton, but with open source tools [02:17] Have been playing around with ardour but still am not sure how to get sound out of it, lol [02:17] I don't know Ableton wel at all [02:18] Ardour is more protools like. [02:18] where are you having trouble? [02:18] It's not the DAW part I'm worried about, it's more on the routing and setup process with linux tools [02:19] I'm running an external DAC into a studio speaker system, but don't know how to configure it [02:19] In Linux audio things you are working with for Ardour will either be ALSA or Jackd. For many people ALSA works just fine [02:19] Do I use "Run ALSA" ? [02:20] external meaning USB? [02:20] yes [02:20] no ALSA is just there and Ardour can connect to it [02:20] I've also got a midi keyboard and drum pad on [02:20] hmm... ok, so I should probably start by studying ALSA and Jackd? [02:21] For most things you should not need jack [02:21] WHen you start Ardour for the first time you would have gotten an audio dialog [02:22] the configuration box? [02:22] I got that, but didn't recognize nearly the whole thing haha [02:22] I appreciate your help, I think I owe it to myself to do more research before taking up anymore of your time haha [02:23] getting audio going is not really intuitive [02:23] Maybe I'm overcomplicating it [02:23] thanks again, chat soon maybe :) [02:23] The most trouble I have is with people who want to use a USB mic and listen on their computer speakers [02:24] oops gone [02:24] ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [10:54] join #ubuntu [10:54] whoops [13:45] hi
