[05:20] tsimonq2 was added by: tsimonq2 [11:35] hello, I asked yesterday about a UI lagging issue and was adviced to add backport repos and use ubuntustudio-controls instead of Cadence and wipe ~/.pulse. I did that and everything was good. This morning, however, pulseaudio is not loading [11:36] ubuntustudio-controls is set to bridge pulseaudio via jack, but it's not visible in the connect section og QJackCtl [12:14] I'm on 18.04 but installed KXstudio which caused some issues. I added backports and updated to newest ubuntustudio-control and removed Cadence and cleared ~/.pulse. Now my pulseaudio is not working. What to do? [15:19] zenseidk: how do you have -controls set up? There is a checkbox for pulse and also a dropdown for choosing which outputs to connect to. [15:19] hi, I got it working by pulseaudio -D [15:20] there was no dropdown box [15:20] pulseaudio was not running [15:20] That would be something left over from cadence [15:22] I will probably have to study cadence much more carefully and add something to -controls to get around whatever Falktx has done [15:23] the -controls applet was designed to not mess with any of the normal working of things so that it could be turned off or removed without leaving wierdness behind [15:25] Cadence chooses instead to change the user whole audio configuration in the various user config files [15:25] Because they are user config files, removing the package does not fully fix this. === hangar18 is now known as hangar18closed [15:50] zenseidk: do you have a folder ~/.config/Cadence/ ? [15:50] yes [15:52] hmm, how about ~/.config/autostart/ [15:55] I have no autostart folder [15:56] No I see he istalls it in /etc/xdg/autostart [15:56] the package removal shouold deal with that ok. [15:57] there is a cadence.sessions-start.desktop [15:57] in /etc/xdg/autostart [15:58] Odd uninstall removes that [15:59] The package remove may not I guess [15:59] should I remove it? [16:00] if you have removed cadence, yes. [16:01] in config/Cadence there are a few .conf files for catia and claudia as well, I can remove the candence file from this folder, I assume? [16:01] You can yes [16:02] I'll liave the other config files [16:02] there's also a JackSettings [16:02] .conf [16:03] If the cadence binaries are gone that _shouldn't matter [16:03] ok [16:03] thanks [16:07] what does ubuntustudio use for vst plugins? like catia [16:08] Carla maybe? [16:08] sorry, yes carla [16:08] Catia is merely a patchbay. Carla is in the backports ppa. [16:08] Or, will be. [16:08] We are working hard to add Carla [16:08] but is there an alternative? since it's not part of the clean install [16:09] It will be part of the clean install. [16:09] It will be, Carla runs on it's own. It does not affect the system. [16:09] * Eickmeyer goes back to interview prep [16:09] Cadence is the only real problem we have with kxstudio. [16:09] okay, in 19.04? [16:10] that should be fixanle then [16:10] fixable [16:10] not sure, but it will be available anything 18.04 and up from the backport PPA [16:10] niccccee [16:11] The ubuntustudio-installer package is being updated to be able to add the backports PPA (or remove it) [16:14] kxstudio is a nice product and Falktx has spent a lot of time on it. However, cadence is more "intrusive" than it needs to be so we are working on making ubuntustudio-controls to be a reasonable replacement for cadance === rapidwave_ is now known as rapidwave [16:21] zenseidk: the ~/.pulse/ directory gets created (recreated) at every session start when cadence is alive. so now that you have removed the autostart you may need to remove the ~/.pulse directory again... [16:22] all right, I'll do that before I reboot next time [16:23] I have audio working, I just used "pulseaudio -D" [16:23] but pulseaudio should start automatically [16:23] if you haven't rebooted since you removed the cadence package, that may be why you had to do the pulseaudio -D [16:24] the files that cadence puts in ~/.pulse specifically turn off the pulse autostart ... [16:25] Cadence then starts pulse only if configured to. === hangar18closed is now known as hangar18 === hangar18 is now known as hangar18closed === hangar18closed is now known as hangar18 === hangar18 is now known as hangar18closed === hangar18closed is now known as hangar18 === hangar18 is now known as hangar18closed === hangar18closed is now known as hangar18 === hangar18 is now known as hangar18closed === hangar18closed is now known as hangar18 [22:25] is there a terminal command to see how much ram's installed in a computer?
