=== Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [05:42] merc@thinkpad:~$ sudo apt upgrade [05:42] [...] [05:42] The following packages have been kept back: [05:42] kwin-common kwin-data kwin-x11 libkwin4-effect-builtins1 [05:42] 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded. [05:42] any clues? fairly standard kubuntu 18.10 install [05:42] ohhh wait, hmm, i think im using the "super up to date" kde packages [05:43] backports [05:53] Merc: Try "sudo apt full-upgrade" instead then. [06:01] ahh i see, it would require the removal of some other packages [06:01] im thinking maybe there's a conflict between current kubuntu and the backports? [06:02] The following packages will be REMOVED: [06:02] libkwineffects11 libkwinglutils11 libkwinxrenderutils11 [06:02] The following NEW packages will be installed: [06:02] libkwineffects12 libkwinglutils12 libkwinxrenderutils12 [06:02] might that break other things linking to 11? [06:02] everything's working fine as of right now... [06:04] it might break some apps that depend on older libs [06:08] yeah [06:08] i mean there must be some reason 'upgrade' is holding it back [06:08] i'll just leave it for now [06:08] i dont know enough dpkg/apt commands to see what packages depend on another package [06:09] and i dont care enough to rtfm at the moment [06:09] thanks diogenes_ [06:09] yw [06:16] Merc: If indeed other packages would depend on the ones up for replacement, they'd turn up in the removal list too though. And any APT upgrade operation that requires the removal of other packages can only be done via "full-upgrade" (or "dist-upgrade" on apt-get) - as simple as that. [06:22] hmm, ok [06:23] i guess ill do it then [06:23] and be brave [06:24] be a man about it [07:17] Good morning === himcesjf_ is now known as him-cesjf [11:25] HI folks [11:31] hi [11:38] hi Alexfrench [11:38] fine ? [15:08] is it possible like msdos age to add a line somewhere ? [15:10] In that case, you'd make the Kubuntu hdd the primary boot drive, then boot up to it, then issue: sudo update-grub ...which would then find the Windows install on the other drive, and add it to the GRUB boot menu [15:10] in the bios ? [15:11] ok i understand in the bios kubuntu boot first [15:11] then from terminal the command [15:12] Yes [15:14] ok thanks i note this [16:42] H R was added by: H R === grumble is now known as `-_-`grumble === `-_-`grumble is now known as grumble === UnivrslS- is now known as UnivrslSuprBox
