puetzkjust poking my head in per the comments I've added today about the root cause of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1820755 (Netboot install fails due to linux-image-4.4.0-143-generic.postinst linux-update-symlinks not found). Is there anything more an outsider can do to help?00:13
ubot5`Ubuntu bug 1820755 in linux (Ubuntu Xenial) "Netboot install fails due to linux-image-4.4.0-143-generic.postinst linux-update-symlinks not found" [Undecided,Confirmed]00:13
puetzkIt seems to be a pretty simple case of inadequate Depends (it just has Depends: linux-base, which is met by the 4.0 the debootstrap xenial has, but it actually needs to be >= 4.1)00:15
puetzkWould be trivial to work around if it didn't break the base-installer before you have a chance to interact and upgrade the pacakge00:15
puetzkJust found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+source/linux/+bug/1820419, which seems to be the same root cause but has a update in -proposed, and tested that. Seems to fix the problem.01:31
ubot5`Ubuntu bug 1820419 in linux (Ubuntu Xenial) "linux-generic should depend on linux-base >=4.1" [High,In progress]01:31
puetzkSo one should probably be marked as a dup of the other. I'm not sure what the preference is on that: 1820755  was more findable (had the error message for web searches) and has more discussion, 1820419 has an assignee and progress toward a fix01:33
puetzkLooks like the kernel team policy is that only members should mark duplicates, so I'll hold off on doing so. smb: see above comments about 1820419 and 1820755, and thank you so much for helping get this fixed.01:45

smbpuetzk, I think duplicating is not restricted to kernel-team but bug triagers in general. But thanks for the hint, I will get the duplication done.08:24
smbpuetzk, My preference at least is to mark 1820755 a duplicate of 1820419 since the latter is referenced in the upload, so it gets updated once that is released.08:27
puetzksmb: thanks. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Policies/DuplicateBugs is where I found the policy note that only the kernel-team was to mark duplicates11:55
smbpuetzk, oh that was almost 9yrs ago... But I guess it was because people tend to make issues the same problem even if the only common thing is that is somewhere in the kernel (exaggerated of course)13:24
puetzkheh :-)13:24
puetzkI didn't spot the date, you're right13:25
