rbasakIt's been a while since I've seen a DKMS build failure presumably (not verified) due to kernel package changes or HWE kernels or suchlike.10:40
rbasakbug 178308510:41
ubot5`bug 1783085 in open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) "open-vm-tools-dkms 2:10.0.7-3227872-5ubuntu1~16.04.2: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer_deferrable’]" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/178308510:41
rbasakHow are these handled nowadays?10:41
apwrbasak, they shoud be being caught in ADT and preventing our kernels releasing in principle10:42
apwsmb, ^10:43
smbapw, rbasak, they normally should, have not yet looked at the matrix to verify, though. There is only one drawback which is new kernel versions becoming hwe(-edge). But from the mentioned version this is xenial which should not change that much12:14
smbapw, so I looked at the adt page, the bug report is about hwe (4.15) kernel and those, and the adt matrix has neutral and fail which means likely it never worked since we got the 4.15 in xenial and as usual we have too much on our plates to get it all done12:29
apwif it has never worked with hwe, that is a thing at least; meaning we might not have intended to make it work12:30
smbapw, yeah, well we may have had good intentions...12:41
smbjust practically ...12:41
rbasaksmb, apw: thank you for looking! How should be triage the bug, set user expectations, etc?12:43
smbrbasak, not quite sure... sounds like cpaelzer was talking to klebers about the same on a different channel12:45
smbcpaelzer, I believe you said that open-vm-tools would normally be verified by someone else... 12:48
