Guest12960hi, I just reinstalled Xubuntu 18.04. Isn't it strange that in Thunar smb://nas works without Samba being installed? If I enable ufw, it doesn't work anymore. But as Samba is not installed, I cannot use 'sudo apt10:58
Guest12960i mean 'sudo ufw enable Samba'.10:59
pmjdebruijnGuest12960: the client doesn't need samba11:35
pmjdebruijnsamba is the server side11:35
pmjdebruijnthe client just need ssomething to link to libsmbclient (IIRC)11:35
rookiehello, I'm having trouble getting my Linux (both this, and another distro) to connect to ethernet. I suspect that this might be because I installed linux on different drive than windows and perhaps it can't reach some information it might need.15:49
rookieIt can detect etherenet connection, but can't connect to it.15:50
diogenes_rookie, try to reboot the router.15:52
rookieI live in a flat and my cable comes straight from electric box, most I can do is unplug and replug cable from my pc :(15:55
diogenes_sometimes after a new system installation, routers maintained some older cache and won't allow you to connect the new device, all the others can work fine but the newer one, the workaround is to reboot it but i'm not stating it's 200% your situation, just like the starting point.15:57
xubuntu91dhi i need help with wine so i can play yandere simulator17:02

diogenes_xubuntu91d, it would take a good effort to try to make it run and even then no guarantee is given but if you want and ready to follow lots of instructions, we can try.17:06
GridCubeno, just steam for linux and install it from there, because appdb says it's a silver program17:07

xubuntu82dcan we pick up were we left off17:37
xubuntu82dwine17:38
diogenes_xubuntu82d, there are two ways of trying to do it: 1) quicker way implying remote control 2) slow and requiring patience from both sides :)17:38
xubuntu82dquicker way17:39
diogenes_but quicker way implies trustworthy so only if you decide you can trust a random guy :)17:39
xubuntu82di trusted you last weekend so why not now ;d17:40
diogenes_then for security reason we gonna have to continue this on private windows17:41
diogenes_windows*17:41

muchachohi18:51
muchachois there a way to have a preview of the window when alt-tabing ?18:52
muchachoi've seen some answers on the net but they're too old18:52
diogenes_muchacho, settings > window manager tweaks > compositor > Show windows preview in place of icons when sycling19:01
diogenes_cycling*19:02
muchachothanks19:04
diogenes_yw19:04
muchachoalso in previous installation of xubuntu i had set alt-f9 as the window resizing shortcut in the settings editor but now it won't work19:06
muchachoright now i have the following property :  <alt>f9 string not locked resize_window_key19:08
diogenes_muchacho, window manager > keyboard19:12
muchachothanks19:13
muchachoxd19:13
muchachoi've always done it this way until now19:13
muchachobut i get it now i should've written /xfwm4/custom/<Alt>F9 instead of /<Alt>F919:15
muchachoi also would like to change firefox's icon in the panel when running a diferent firefox profile. Is it possible ? I've heard of xseticon but it seems old19:24
diogenes_muchacho, you could make your own launcher with: Exec = firefox --profile <path> and Icon = /path/to/youricon.png19:29
diogenes_of course all other ingredients added up.19:30
muchachoi've changed the .desktop file but it doesn't change the icon in the oanel19:30
muchacho*panel19:30
muchachoi've even added a desktop file19:31
diogenes_no, you need to remove it and add it again19:31
muchachothen launched from it19:31
muchachowhat's wrong if i have two files, one for each profile ?19:31
muchachowith a different icon19:31
muchachoof course19:31
muchachoi have launched from it19:32
diogenes_nothing wrong absolutely, i've got 4 with different profiles19:32
muchachobut it only seems to work in the whisker menu19:32
diogenes_from whisker menu right click > add to panel19:33
muchachoyeah ok it's been added to the panel but if i run firefox the icon won't. What i'd like to achieve is change firefox's icon based on the profile i run or even be able to replace any program's icon19:41
muchachoi mean the firefox icon won't change19:41
diogenes_muchacho, you need to create a file: /home/username/.local/share/applications/firefoxp.desktop19:42
muchachoi did19:43
diogenes_in that file you add the following:19:43
muchachoi changed the icon field19:43
muchachoto a new one19:43
diogenes_to what?19:43
muchachoi put the path to the new icon19:43
muchachothe .desktop is located at /usr/share/applications/19:44
diogenes_so now look in Menu > Internet, do you see them both? the normal ff and the custom one with different icon?19:44
muchachoyeah19:44
brainwashan application is able to change the icon of its running window19:44
brainwashand the panel shows the icon of a running window19:45
diogenes_oh yeah the running window won't change the icon but the launcher icon should be your custom.19:45
muchachoyeah that's what's happening. Any way of changing that behaviour ?19:46
diogenes_i don't think so, maybe to run something ike waterfox19:47
diogenes_they got a blue icon19:47
