[00:15] Does anybody know of a mouse gesturing application? [00:26] Kumool: what are you looking to do or what do you mean by mouse gesturing ? === brainwash_ is now known as brainwash [01:48] argh [01:48] left [01:48] dangit [01:51] So because X seems to hang/freeze and eat up key events except for the mouse which is the only thing that is responsive, I was wondering if there was a mouse gesturing thing that I could use for restarting the computer whenever that happened [01:52] mouse gestures like opera gestures and so on, basically the moves in a certain way and it performs an action [01:52] thats a gesture [01:52] i think [05:17] hey everyone! [05:17] Hi everyone i need help, i'm new to linux and i can not install vlc media player to see a movie thanks [05:20] Hi everyone i need help, i'm new to linux and i can not install vlc media player to see a movie thanks [05:20] I was sent over here from #ubuntu when i asked about changin themes on my system, I recently stripped it down because i was having some issues with my desktop environment, I'm using a base system now with only Compiz and Xfce4 panel and thunar. the only issue i'm having is I have not been able to find a way to change my theme across the board. Emerald worked sort of, but was limited in scope. so i [05:21] switched to gtk-window-decorator and havn't been able to consistently change my theme in any way, and also unable to tone down the blinding white background on thunar as well. I read about chaning gtkrc and gtk2.0 css, and have not had luck with that either, any suggestions woudl be awesome, thank you all [05:24] !themes [05:24] To change your theme in Xubuntu, go to Settings Manager -> Appearance (tabs Style, Icons) and/or Settings Manager -> Window Manager (tab Style). Starting with Xubuntu 13.10, you can control some of your theme colors from Settings Manager -> Theme Configuration. [05:25] well_laid_lawn unhelpful [05:25] k [05:25] thank you for the reply though really === Israphel is now known as Guest82710 === Israphel_ is now known as Israphel === sorinello1 is now known as sorinello === Israphel is now known as Guest91463 === Israphel_ is now known as Israphel === cmcmanis is now known as ChuckM [19:13] Hey everyone! Installed Xubuntu 18.04. Laptop is Lenovo X1 Carbon. When I am locking my screen, it goes blank. I then either have to type my password in the dark or reboot. Can this be fixed? Googling has not yielded helpful results. [19:14] louigi: it only happens on 18.04.2 not 18.04.1 IIRC [19:14] louigi: Ctrl+Alt+F1 then Ctrl+Alt+F8 [19:14] is a workaround [19:14] or just install 18.04.1 and don't install the kernel 4.18 hardware enablement stack [19:16] pmjdebruijn: Ha! So it's a known issue? [19:16] This is like a huge bug, I must say [19:16] Will try the shortcuts later (the laptop is not with me now). Is there anywhere I can read about this? [19:17] I don't have the bug entry handy [19:17] i'm not sure if the 18.04.2 ISO actually has an option to install without HWE kernel [19:17] louigi: it's a bug, though not huge [19:17] I did not see such an option [19:17] then just download the 18.04.1 ISO, and then update [19:18] you can downgrade also, can't you? [19:18] not sure [19:18] can you with a HWE? [19:18] since it also involves Xorg? [19:18] without huge risk? [19:18] I'd think it's just a package downgrade [19:19] well, replacement actually [19:19] This is a new laptop, so I can, of course, reinstall, although it's strange to install an older version... Well. Not so strange in Linux world, but still, I hope this will be fixed? [19:19] On the other hand, 18.04 came out a year ago... [19:19] it's not an older version [19:19] 18.04.1 ships the original kernel which 18.04 was released with [19:19] 18.04.2 ships with the kernel 18.10 was originally released with [19:19] Oh, and the other one is with HWE [19:19] the .2 release have newer kenels with shorter support, to be able to support new hardware [19:20] Nice. Xubuntu site said nothing about it. [19:20] everything else between 18.04.1 and 18.04.2 is the same except for some bugfixes, which you'll be able to download after install in any case [19:20] Ok, I will consider re-installing. This is such BS. [19:20] louigi: this is common practice in all ubuntu variants for quite a few years now [19:20] louigi: bugs happen sadly [19:20] pmjdebruijn: Interesting, I have 14.04 and 16.04 and had no issues [19:21] louigi: i'm not sure how that's relevant [19:21] regression just happen at some point [19:21] Anyway, thank you for your help. Btw, the suggested shortcuts workarounds - what will they do? [19:21] where and when is arbitrary [19:21] Sure [19:21] install 18.04.1 isn't a workaround [19:21] it should be a fix [19:21] I meant what you initially suggested [19:21] the bug does not exist in 4.15 kernel, which will be support for the entire 18.04 lifecycle [19:22] at least if I'm not mistaken [19:22] It's an Xorg thing I'm pretty sure [19:22] with version 1.20 [19:22] oh well "HWE" thing [19:23] bug 1801609 [19:23] bug 1801609 in xorg-server (Ubuntu) "Fails to deactivate dpms off mode after user initiated wake-up events(not system-suspended, just locked and dpms active)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1801609 [19:23] for practical purposes I consider a HWE usually as an inseperately combination of kernel+xorg, although they may be seperable :) [19:32] brainwash: Thank you!
