int3lhello ppl, does anyone use kmodsign and if so, can you confirm if it works?01:16
int3lbecause I wanted to sign the vmware modules vmmon/vmnet and it doesn't work01:17
pragmaticenigmaint3l: You'll need to find a different channel for vmware support. The focus here is on Ubuntu and it's distributed software applications01:18
int3lI guess I should report it as a bug in lpad, since the perl script sign-file01:19

int3lpragmaticenigma, the sign function doesn't work01:19

LinuxNoob115vhello04:52
NorthwestVeganhi04:53
LinuxNoob115vI need some help04:53
LinuxNoob115vI'm trying to get a preseed working similar to my configurations in centos for partitioning04:55
LinuxNoob115vbut I can't find any information on how to do it without using lvm and or RAID04:55
NorthwestVeganhmm not sure04:57
sandwitchYour using preseed on centos no kickstart?05:01
LinuxNoob115vUsing PXE server to preseed05:02
sandwitchpreseed is an debian/ubuntu tool redhat/centos uses kickstart imho05:03
LinuxNoob115vTrying to atuomate Ubuntu Install05:03
sandwitchso no centos05:03
LinuxNoob115vYes no centos, was just saying I have a kickstart on the PXE that is similar sorry for the confusion05:03
sandwitchokay np05:03
sandwitchand what kin of partitioning do you need?05:05
LinuxNoob115vBasically I want /boot 500mb on /dev/sda  ,  swap recommended size  and / as rest05:05
sandwitchs/kin/kind/05:05
LinuxNoob115vext4 or xfs05:05
sandwitchmoment05:05
SwedeMikeI tend to use ext4 for /boot and also /, but use xfs for larger data volumes05:06
SwedeMikeso /home is typically xfs05:06
SwedeMikemajor downside to xfs is that it can't be shrunk05:06
sandwitchI think all you need is  "d-i     partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda"05:10
sandwitchor wherever your disk is05:10
LinuxNoob115vWell how would I specify the rest?05:11
sandwitchI think you dont05:11
sandwitchthe installer runsript on the auto script on disk '/dev/sda'05:12
LinuxNoob115vthat kind of sucks05:12
sandwitchThat is a strange sentence sorry05:12
sandwitchwhy?05:12
LinuxNoob115vWhat if you want a specific setting05:13
sandwitchThen you need to define that05:17
sandwitchThat is all in the manual05:17
LinuxNoob115vWhich manual are you looking at?05:17
sandwitchHere are some examples 'https://www.debian.org/releases/stretch/example-preseed.txt'05:20
sandwitchthis might be helpfull also 'https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/installation-guide/amd64/apb.html'05:21
LinuxNoob115vI looked at those both before asking :\05:23
sandwitchAll the answers are there05:24
LinuxNoob115vI'll try to re-read it but the examples are for LVM and RAID from what  I saw05:24
sandwitchsearch for theis in the latter file 'If not, you can put an entire recipe into the preconfiguration'05:26
sandwitchans read it carefully, you can test on a lvm image05:27
mnathaniHow would I go about making a deb package for an application like imapsync?06:02

nikolamI see snap for Ubuntu Skype is not updated yet, even it advertise update is available. (Also have Desktop Skype installed). Should I just wait for updated Skype snap to land for Ubuntu?09:27

lotuspsychjenikolam: snap issues are reported to the snap maintainer09:29
nikolamlotuspsychje, snaps for Ubuntu are maintained by Ubuntu or not?09:30
lotuspsychjenikolam: you can check that with: snap info snapname09:30
lotuspsychjenikolam: the contact: section09:31
nikolamit says, contact:   https://www.skype.com/ .09:31
nikolamSo it goes for all the snaps. They are compiled and created by external people09:32
rorythose snaps are provided by Microsoft themselves09:32
lotuspsychjenikolam: some snaps are maintained by canonical09:33
nikolamHow to differentiate before install?09:33
roryeven if the snap was maintained by Canonical, the update process for snaps is not tied to the normal packages09:33
roryso you would still have to wait09:33
lotuspsychjenikolam: you are the admin of your system, you decide what you install and what not right09:34
roryso yes, you can wait for the snap to update. Or you can install Skype from the official repository (Scroll down on this page) https://www.linuxbabe.com/ubuntu/install-skype-ubuntu-18-04-lts-desktop09:34
roryi'm npot sure if the version in that repo has even been updated to the latest upstream Skype version.09:35
nikolamI have seen on their snap page that there is newer version but I think it is not considered stable, that is why it tells there is newer.09:36
nikolamThere's some drop-down menu to show it on their site.09:36

lotuspsychjesnaps already auto refresh09:36

lotuspsychjeyou can see that in syslog from time to time09:37
nikolamwhat do you mean autorefresh? they update themselves , by themselves?09:37
lotuspsychjeyes09:37
lotuspsychjethats why your snap icons update themselfs at random times09:37
rorythat sounds potentially bad but tbh i've never used snaps09:38
nikolamSounds like hard to maintain such systems.09:38
roryi definitely wouldn't a long-running service being upgraded at an unpredictable time09:38
lotuspsychjelets move this to #ubuntu-discuss please09:38
rorybut anyway. maybe there's an option in snap to upgrade to a non-stable version of skype?09:38
nikolamrory, yes, one can click on their on-site drop-down menu to get newer one, but is not stable. As said.  #ubuntu-discuss09:39

tomreynkristenbb: and what does it say for "Flash:" there?21:40

EriC^^kristenbb: aha, well that's interesting cause that package doesnt exist in 18.04 according to above, so maybe that's why21:42
EriC^^did you upgrade from 16.04?21:42

tomreynso the right package to install is "adobe-flashplugin" according to both pages i linkes21:43
tomreyn*linkD21:43
EriC^^kristenbb: ok, what does "apt-cache policy pepperflashplugin-nonfree" give for the installed version info?21:44
kristenbbEriC^^: https://pastebin.com/2pqW4fFB21:45
kristenbbso do I understand it right that I have to apt-get purge pepperflashplugin-nonfree ?21:45
tomreynyes, purge "pepperflashplugin-nonfree", install "adobe-flashplugin" from canonical-partner21:46
EriC^^kristenbb: canonical partner is a repo, you have to enable it if it's not already21:47
kristenbbso how to do all that?21:47
tomreynhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Chromium/Getting-Partner-Flash21:48
AssociateXUbuntu 18.04.2 LTS, I can switch to a VT and log in after X is up, but I can't switch to any other VT or back to X after that. What is the fix for this? I did search for a while before asking here, and I only found others with similar problems, but no solution.21:48
kristenbbwasn't the package supposed to be flashplugin-nonfree, instead of adobe-flashpplugin?21:48
tomreynonly if things changed since this documentation was written21:48
tomreynAssociateX: what happens when you try to switch VTs then?21:50
tomreynis there a bug report you found on this?21:50
AssociateXtomreyn, I can switch to a VT and log in after X is up, but I can't switch to any other VT or back to X after that. So, meaning that I just have a VT and no way back to X.21:52
kristenbbtomreyn, EriC^^: I'm a bit lost. I have purged pepperflashplugin-nonfree, and I indeed no longer have flash on chromium. However I still do have flash on firefox, and the package flashplugin-installer is still there. So why is it that it's not working on chromium now, and which package should I install: flashplugin-nonfree, as you guys mentioned initially, or adobe-flashplugin ?21:53
tomreynAssociateX: i understood, thanks for clarifying, though. so when, after switching to a text TTY, you press, e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch back to the login daemon or desktop, nothing happens at all?21:54
tomreynAssociateX: that's also after you released all keys and pressed them again?21:54
AssociateXCorrect21:55
tomreynkristenbb: read the wiki page i pointed you to and the confusion will be gone.21:55
promillekristenbb: The adobe-flashplugin seems to be supported by canonical. Not as up-to-date, but more stable. flashplugin-nonfree/flashplugin-installer downloads the plugin from adobe itself it seems.21:56
tomreynthe proper link for 18.04 would have been this (i previously posted the 19.04 one): https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/net-install-flash.html.en21:56
kristenbbtomreyn: I have read it (it mostly contains screenshots), but I still don't get why it works on firefox and not on chrome.21:56
promillekristenbb: https://askubuntu.com/questions/15408/flashplugin-installer-vs-flashplugin-nonfree-vs-adobe-flashplugin/15409#1540921:56
EriC^^kristenbb: firefox is using the flashplugin-installer one, chrome isnt using that one21:57
tomreynkristenbb: the one with the screenshots is just to enable the canonical-partner repository, please read the documentation page instead21:57

tomreynAssociateX: so from looking at this bug report, there is no solution, yet. you could subscribe to it to get notified when workarounds are discussed and a solution is provided.22:12
tomreynAssociateX: possible workarounds you could try: switching to !HWE kernel + X, setting WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf22:14

ubottuThe Ubuntu LTS enablement stacks provide newer kernel and X support for existing LTS releases, see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack22:41

conris launchpad.net down? trying to add a ppa and its just stuck.22:45
tomreynahi2: no22:46
ahi2why doesnt it update to 4.18.x?22:46
tomreynahi2: because it doesn't need to. the 4.15 kernel is fine unless you have special needs.22:47
tomreyn!latest22:47
ubottuPackages in Ubuntu may not be the latest. Ubuntu aims for stability, so "latest" may not be a good idea. Post-release updates are only considered if they are fixes for security vulnerabilities, high impact bug fixes, or unintrusive bug fixes with substantial benefit. See also !backports, !sru, and !ppa.22:47
ahi2so 18.04 probable wont get 5.0 ever?22:48
Bashing-omahi2: If you installed 18.04/01 you must ecplicitly opt in for HWE to take effect, Many of us desire to reamin on the 4.15 kernel serieis :)22:48
ahi2ok22:48
conr`error: retrieving gpg key timed out.`22:49
tomreynahi2: the GA (general availavbility, original release) kernel version remains the same for the lifetime of a release (4.15 for ubuntu 18.04), but HWE kernel versions can increase over time. also later point releases ubuntu installers (such as 18.04.2 - .2 is the point release) may install the HWE kernel by default in some variants (notably desktops).22:52
tomreynahi2: much of this is also explained on the wiki page that ubottu told you about earlier.22:53
