=== lubuntu is now known as Guest40707 === Guest40707 is now known as lubuntu [09:21] Is it possible to make runner work just by typing on the desktop, that is without first pressing alt+f2 [12:39] on the latest lubuntu how to enable the tile window to right or left or bottom or down shortcuts? [12:39] (hi hi :) [12:43] @ssarah [ on the latest lubuntu how to enable the tile window to right or left or …], Would have to change the openbox configuration [12:44] yeh, i tried that, didnt work, i'll try it again [13:15] Hi can someone help me trouble shoot this? the big picture is, I have an hp spectre with ubuntu 19.04 on it. It's connected to a dock via thunderbolt. it has two 4k monitors connected to the dock, but only one will work at a time. [13:45] @ssarah [ yeh, i tried that, didnt work, i'll try it again], thi thing is that the windows key or super_l conflicts with some other uses, try to use another key or don't use that key for menu open. [13:49] ty [13:49] :) [16:48] found unexpected behavior in 18.10 [16:48] trying to open new tab with the tab bar closed causes terminal to reset [16:48] in terminal [16:49] whether i click menu item or use keyboard shortcut [17:02] @sappheiros [ found unexpected behavior in 18.10], can you check in 19.04? [17:19] lubot: hopefully next month i can upgrade [17:32] @sappheiros [ lubot: hopefully next month i can upgrade], Moving from 18.10 to 19.04 is not a big task [17:36] lubot: i don't know a fast way to backup files and i'm preparing to move across the continent and trying to maximize time spent with my family the next week or so [17:36] ... so of course i'm chatting on freenode >_> [18:54] Hello [18:55] Where could the default configuration for new users be stored on lubuntu? [18:55] what are you trying to change/do? [18:56] openbox configuration and themes [18:56] ah /etc/xdg [18:57] for openbox i tried editing the system wide rc.xml file but the new user still got the old default openbox configuration [18:58] that doesn't make any sense. what version you on? [18:58] lubuntu 18.04 [18:58] I think you have one in your home folder copied over [18:59] yeah lyn but i think this is a brand new user, created after the systemwide change [18:59] that doesn't make sense [18:59] let me try again [18:59] also have you run -openbox --reconfigure or logged back in or out again is one things you need to do with openbox [19:00] openbox --reconfigure [19:00] i didn't knew that, ill try again [19:01] that's if openbox is currently running of course [19:01] oh, then that shouldn't had made anything on my first try [19:02] my first try was directly changing the filesystem.squashfs on the iso by the way [19:03] need to install lubuntu on 6 computers so having a custom lubuntu iso would be easier on the long run [19:04] yeah it should be /etc/xdg/openbox/rc.xml [19:04] there's nothing in /etc/skel which would be the other weird thing [19:06] if you look at the value of $XDG_CONFIG_HOME, you'll find it to be $HOME/.config and $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is /etc/xdg/lubuntu:/etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu:/etc/xdg, i.e. when a new user is created, it pulls from those directories, and dumps them into the former [19:06] https://specifications.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/basedir-spec-latest.html [19:16] you're right, then /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox/lxqt-rc.xml is the correct file? [19:17] no [19:17] those directories are searched in order [19:17] actually no nevermind that XD [19:18] ~/.config should include both lxqt-rc.xml and rc.xml but the former is only used for lxqt sessions [19:22] editing /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox/lxqt-rc.xml did nothing as you probably expected [19:22] right. the lxqt session specifically calls it out [19:22] it's a non-standard filename, so it's not going to pick up on it if you just run openbox without specifying the location [19:23] but i notice the local config file is called lubuntu-rc.xml, maybe if i search that name on /etc ill find the correct one [19:23] unless the file is being renamed when copied [19:24] i'd find that odd [19:24] there's no other *rc.xml files in /etc/xdg [19:30] the only lubuntu-rc.xml files are in the .config of the users [19:31] just to be sure, lubuntu doesn't use dconf, right? [19:34] looks like it based on $HOME/.config/dconf [19:43] i couldn't find anything related to openbox config inside that dconf db [19:46] but editing /etc/xdg/openbox/rc.xml and /etc/xdg/xdg-Lubuntu/openbox/lxqt-rc.xml and restarting don't have any effect on the openbox config for new users after the restart [19:46] oh i wouldn't expect that [19:46] if a user is already created, then they have a local config [19:46] that local config will take precedence over the global one [19:47] but if you create a new user now, then it SHOULD use the global one [22:24] I'm sorry I made the wrong question because of my own ignorance. What I should have asked was how to customize lubuntu session. I can probably find out myself now that I know where to look at. [22:43] /usr/share/lubuntu/openbox/rc.xml but i guess the correct procedure will be to create a new session
