[00:05] OerHeks I just prefer Synaptic. And this os has both unity and kde installed. [00:05] delac: if you need to, because you love some gnome apps, go for it [00:05] you mean unity and plasma/kwin, or ? [00:05] so you are saying there is no side effects? [00:06] just a bunch of gtk libraries etc [00:06] there may be side-effects [00:06] well, they area already installed [00:06] depending on the system [00:06] it's ubuntu with unity and kde desktops [00:07] it's been years since I used synaptic [00:07] ever since muon got good, I used that [00:07] now that Discover is good, I use that [00:07] I still find it the best [00:07] or just apt [00:07] it's all just tools [00:07] use what you like [00:08] I will ;) [00:08] delac: if you are still running unity, this must be an older system? [00:08] ubuntu 19.04 [00:08] * valorie is running 19.04, the current [00:08] interesting, so unity is still working for ya? [00:08] unity is still installed default on ubuntu [00:09] sure, gnome is the default desktop [00:09] not for a ~couple of years [00:09] but unity still hangs in there [00:09] cool [00:12] but about the side-effects if I run unity-settings-daemon on kde... anyone know of any? [00:13] I don't -- but the plasma devels work pretty hard to make everything work (especially settings and themes, etc.) while running everywhere [00:15] well, you still need to close any gtk3 apps if you want the theme to be applied [00:15] and for root programs even that wont help [00:15] buenas noches alguien de bariloche? [00:16] delac: lots of work behind the scenes on the gnome and kde side to make things work [00:16] since people have favorite tools they want to work everywhere [00:17] our devels go to their sprints sometimes and vice-versa [00:19] I did find xsettings-kde daemon on github, but there hasn't been any real development on it since 2016 [00:20] yeah, not much point working on X exclusively any more [00:20] it's all wayland, and if it works on xwayland, great === Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [01:17] 大家好阿 [01:38] !cn [01:38] 如欲獲得中文的協助,請輸入 /join #ubuntu-cn 或 /join #ubuntu-tw === drac is now known as dracnoc === Katnip- is now known as Guest44034 [06:16] Good morning [07:36] can i somehow tell kubuntu 18.04 not to have both LAN and WLAN connected at the same time? [07:37] i feel like that should be the default anyway, but it keeps happening [07:46] That is typically a bios setting. There is typically a setting that turns the wifi off when an ethernet cable is connected. [08:20] that sounds like a workaround [08:20] iff it exists [08:21] and it would bar me from using things like wifi direct without first booting into the bios [08:21] (while an ethernet cable is connected, anyway) === zorael^ is now known as zorael === Guest44034 is now known as Katnip === Katnip is now known as Guest61877 === Guest61877 is now known as Katnip- === Katnip- is now known as Guest12896 === Guest12896 is now known as Katnip_ === drac is now known as dracnoc === MonkeyD is now known as MonkeyDLuffy === EvilRoey is now known as HealthCrab [12:23] Hi folks === HealthCrab is now known as EvilRoey [14:13] I've got a dual boot computer with a destroyed windows partition, which I want to reinstall without destroying the linux. I have Kubuntu 19,04 with Plasma 5.16.1 and 4 Virtual desktops. Works fine. But I cannot edit the name of the desktops - they are just named "New Desktop" all, not able to edit that. Is it supposed to be like that now? On the older version I can edit it.. [14:37] They are editable. Just hover and click the rename button [14:37] (Photo, 592x514) https://irc-attachments.kde.org/qIwfGxu5/file_16123.jpg [14:39] Hah! wow - I found the hidden rename button now yes - thanks, Maybe it's my theme/color that hides it - I will check that.
