gnrpfriendlyGoat: You have an Intel GPU, nouveau doesn't do anything?06:23
friendlyGoatgnrp: i gotta install it, i accidentally procrastinated a bit but i might need help with it due to it not having a release for 19.0406:23
gnrpfriendlyGoat: nouveau is a driver for Nvidia GPUs, but yours is Intel. nouveau won't do anything06:26
gnrpfriendlyGoat: I would rather check the regular things first. E.g., does a regular splash screen work with plymouth?06:27
friendlyGoatoh oops sorry i misinterpreted your message about nouveau earlier today, sorry i was exhausted as hell @gnrp06:27
friendlyGoati had a regular splash screen but now its super simple after an update. my splash is normal when turning my computer off but its super simple when im boot up06:28
gnrphehe06:28
gnrpaaah, ok, now I get it. I thought you would have installed your own one06:28
gnrpwhat is your kernel parameters when booting?06:29
gnrpI mean, your grub command line06:29
gnrpmaybe put your /boot/grub/grub.cfg on pastebin06:31
friendlyGoatdidnt see this, i'll get right on it06:38
friendlyGoathttps://pastebin.com/EvzFpTEz @gnrp06:39
gnrpfriendlyGoat: What does the splash screen at the moment look like? Can you take a photo with a phoen or so?06:45
gnrpdoes the file /boot/grub/leopard.jpeg exist?06:45
gnrpoh, and did you check out /boot/grub/gfxblacklist.txt ?06:48
friendlyGoat@gnrp the grub menu exists and is the default mac wallpaper from 2006 but once i start xubuntu itself instead of the normal splash screen that says XUBUNTU in nice big letters i just get it in plain text with little squares under it06:56
friendlyGoatany ideas?07:07

friendlyGoatyes it does.10:19
friendlyGoatthats my background on the boot menu when im choosing which os to enter.10:19
friendlyGoat@gnrp (forgot to notify you)10:27
gnrpfriendlyGoat: Could it be that your GPU is blacklisted in /boot/grub/gfxblacklist.txt ?10:31
friendlyGoati used cat to view that, where would i see my gpu? i just see strings of numbers and letters with a * next to them @gnrp10:52
appaI have an https://genesi.company/products/smartbook that is very unsupported these days.    I'd like to learn what I'd need to keep it going with a modern xubuntu or maybe debian14:23
appaI figure it would include building kernels and such14:24
CorvetteZR1looks like just a regular arm device.  just installed armhf debian/ubuntu and away you go14:25
CorvetteZR1no kernel compiling needed14:25
CorvetteZR1appa: download it from here: https://ubuntu.com/download/server/arm14:37
CorvetteZR1don't worry about the server label, it's fine.  just minimal install14:37
CorvetteZR1once you get that installed and have a shell, you can run 'apt-get install xfce' as root and should be all set14:39
appaThanks I will try that18:10
appaI hope it's that easy18:10
appaI'm comfortable adding whatever I need later18:11
appaLooks like he's gone18:11
appaso I'm not sure if it's going to work that easy22:46
appaI'm working out what to do with this: https://github.com/genesi/linux-legacy/22:46
