JanCI think most Realtek WiFi drivers are reverse-engineered from throw-over-the-wall code that was only intended to work with 1 specific hardware combination03:25
JanCand only written to work with 1 kernel03:27

sappheirosdoes ubuntu have Microsoft OneNote alternative software for handwriting content on touchscreen laptops?19:10
daftykinshrmm, i'm looking into the idea of setting up a digitalocean VPS for a friends small business, the intention would be for it to host his website and a Nextcloud instance with the company documents shared between the employees. I'm under the impression it would be wise to secure the data storage path of Nextcloud via file system level encryption, does that make sense?21:00
TJ-daftykins: only whilst the file-system is at rest; it won't help whilist the OS/services are running and need to access it21:08
daftykinsTJ-: mmm i thought that'd be the case, given it'd be powered on 24x7 what do you think would be the best way to go?21:09
daftykinsi was just digging into the Nextcloud docs about how their built-in encryption works21:10
TJ-daftykins: I've not actually checked but does it support gpg encryption with multiple keys?21:11
daftykinshmm i don't see anything21:14
tomreynhttps://nextcloud.com/endtoend/21:15
tomreynhttps://github.com/nextcloud/end_to_end_encryption_rfc/blob/master/RFC.md21:17
tomreyni'm just reading up on this.21:17
JanC"RFC" sounds like they are still working on it?21:17
daftykinsthat part sounds like the one i saw earlier where they want $1000 a year for up to 50 users21:18
tomreynit doesn't look like it's going to be an ietf RFC, but that's probably what provided the name.21:18
tomreynthe feature was introduced in nextcloud 1321:21
tomreynread the threat models on the first link21:25
TJ-The code looks reasonable21:27
daftykinsstrangely the 'end to end encryption' endpoint app is not available for the current v1621:28
daftykinsheh there's a post on reddit where someone trialled the end to end encryption and found it was massively broken21:34
daftykinshmm, ok my current thinking is to employ the use of nextcloud's built-in encryption feature, then if any data truly critical needs to be stored on it - client side tools will need to be explored and employed21:39
daftykinsearlier it seemed to be suggesting creating an ecryptfs volume, but if that's not going to gain me anything, i'm not sure it's worth it?21:41
TJ-daftykins: the E2E code in the desktop client looks OK; do users need to use an 'app' on a PDA or are they using portable PCs21:41
daftykinsTJ-: they might well wish for smartphone access, yeah21:42
daftykinsjudging from comments online, people are saying to avoid the E2EE as it's too alpha21:43
daftykinshmm one reference to https://cryptomator.org21:45
TJ-I'd hope they'd have a securit audit of the design and the code before releasing it but don't see any plans along that line21:48
sappheirosdoes ubuntu have Microsoft OneNote alternative software for handwriting content on touchscreen laptops?21:50
TJ-sappheiros: not that I've noticedl; not polished anyhow. My 1998 windows CE PDA is better at hand-writing recognition than any Linux package I've tried21:51
