lotuspsychjegood morning to all00:26
sarnoldlotuspsychje: heh, are you where your dns says you are? :)00:27
lotuspsychjeyeah, temps are killing tonight, phew00:27
sarnoldoh :( sorry :( good luck00:28
lotuspsychje25c at 2h2800:28
sarnoldit's just *super* early for your part of the world -- I'd always assumed you were in au or nz :)00:28
lotuspsychjeyeah i confuse alot with aus timezones always00:29
lotuspsychjesarnold: wich part are you from?00:29
sarnoldlotuspsychje: portland, oregon, usa00:29
sarnold1729 at the moment00:29
lotuspsychjewhats the temps over there?00:29
sarnold26c00:29
lotuspsychjeokay-ish :p00:30
lotuspsychjethey predict code red here today, 41c00:30
sarnoldit's about 21-22 indoors, so when I head outside to move my garden sprinkler, it just feels like a nice warm summer day; if I were to be *doing* something outside in the sun, I'd certainly think it too warm00:31
sarnold25 at 2am is just way too much though00:31
lotuspsychjeyeah00:31

BluesKajHi folks11:28
lunahttp://ubuntupodcast.org/2019/07/25/s12e16-glider-rider/14:34
pragmaticenigmaleftyfb: How does #snappy help with Ubuntu Core image?14:49
leftyfbpragmaticenigma: Ubuntu core is all snap related. They would know better.14:50
leftyfba bit surprised there isn't an #ubuntu-core14:53
pragmaticenigmaokay... I wasn't aware, I thought core was like what "Fedora Core" used to be14:53
leftyfbthough really, after the image is working, it's all snappy from there14:53
leftyfbnope14:53
pragmaticenigmagood to know14:56
lotuspsychje!info firefox15:15
ubot5firefox (source: firefox): Safe and easy web browser from Mozilla. In component main, is optional. Version 68.0+build3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 (bionic), package size 50387 kB, installed size 190028 kB15:15
hggdhand... chromium is now snap-only15:19
lotuspsychjeaha tnx hggdh15:20
pragmaticenigmaprobably easier to maintain that way?15:21
pragmaticenigmasucks that nothing will be able to leverage webkit library sharing15:21
pragmaticenigmawell.. harder to share15:21
lunaListening to this weeks podcast now15:27
hggdhpragmaticenigma: yes, MUCH easier to maintain. One single snap will work on all supported platforms15:49
pragmaticenigmai'm still in the camp, if I wanted snaps... I would have installed windows camp16:06
lunaDownloading the new Eoan +1 release now16:08
lotuspsychjeplease no crossposts luna16:09
lunalotuspsychje: sorry16:17
tomreynhggdh: so what happens to the apt package. does it get more and more outdated? will it be removed? how do users using the apt package learn about the change?16:26
hggdhand... more interesting. chromium-browser was installed as a snap, but (1) the package was not removed, and (2) there is no linking to the snap. As a result, I am still using the package, not the snap16:26
tomreyn(i'm not sure you're the right person to ask about this, though)16:26
tomreynah16:26
tomreynsame thoughts :)16:27
hggdhlet me grab the apt log for this change16:27
tomreynwhich ubuntu version is this about? all supported? +1?16:28
pragmaticenigmaI'm guessing the 19 series at minimum16:29
hggdhoh, it seems (for whatever stupid reason) I would need to restart after the snap was installed: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/8v58VDktfB/16:31
hggdhoing it now16:31
lotuspsychjelets also try that16:32
lotuspsychjehmm looks like its pretty responsive for a snap16:34
tomreynso that's on eoan only for now, ok16:34
hggdhyes, restarting did the trick. I am now under the chromium snap (and the package is still installed)16:35
hggdhmind you, this is on Eoan16:36
tomreynnow do you file bugs about this migration path against the bug tracker apt packages use (launchpad), or the bug tracker snaps use (/dev/null)?16:36
hggdhtomreyn: good question...16:36
tomreynwell, tbf, eoan is unreleased.16:37
pragmaticenigmatwitter!16:37
tomreynring the lara bell!16:38
hggdhasked in #u-desktop16:39
tomreynare snaps x-platform actually?16:39
tomreynor rather, are there snaps fpr multiple platforms16:39
tomreynhttps://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/chromium-browser lists amd64, arm64, armhf, i38616:40
hggdhtheoretically, whereever snapd is running, it would swallow a snap16:41
hggdhand I got a response -- seems snap is still slightly broken on eoan, plus kernel bug. Known issuess, being dealt with16:41
pragmaticenigmawell... it's not even RC yet.. so that seems to be expected16:42
hggdhaye. And I keep eating the dog food, as I used to do while Canonical16:42
tomreynoh and kernel mainline builds got fixed16:43

sarnoldpuff wanted to say thanks to pragmaticenigma the other day, so I've been waiting to see him return..22:46
lotuspsychjethats the guy with intel device right22:46
sarnoldyeah22:47
jeremy31It isn't 6 PM here and it is 26C22:47
lotuspsychjeyou know what fixxed it?22:47
lotuspsychjejeremy31: where are you?22:47
jeremy31North Central United States22:47
sarnoldlotuspsychje: it was cruddy device, an older kernel worked :(22:47
lotuspsychjecool22:48
sarnoldlotuspsychje: I mean, good it's fixed, but .. terrible solution :(22:48
lotuspsychjesarnold: yeah i also adviced him to test things like 16.04.6, but that wiki he followed workedaround weirdly old kernel22:48
sarnoldlotuspsychje: sigh :( I wish more embedded people cared abouit supporting their stuff longer22:53
lotuspsychjesarnold: wasnt ubuntu core a good idea for Iot & drones or so?22:54
sarnoldlotuspsychje: yes, I think so, especially for the userland update infrastructure22:55
sarnoldlotuspsychje: but if they don't put in the effort to get their out of tree drivers and so on into the upstream kernel, the'll probably eventually stop paying for enabled kernels for "last years" devices..22:56
lotuspsychjebut probably even then, he would need to add that intel ppa22:56
sarnolddepends how much they'd have embraced the snap lifestyle, heh22:59
lotuspsychjesarnold: i want one of these: https://www.droneshield.com/how-droneshield-works23:10
lotuspsychjefree hardware :p23:10
tomreynthe intel repo for this drone even had a custom systemd23:10
sarnoldtomreyn o_O23:10
tomreynyes...23:10
tomreynand there was kernel source, i think someone could even try making this work properly.23:11
tomreynbut then they also stopped supporting the hardware in january, after 3 or so years.23:11
lotuspsychjei adviced him to just try an updated 16.04.6 and start bugging from there23:12
lotuspsychjesee what issues he would bump into the official way23:12
sarnoldlotuspsychje: hah, this thing kinda looked like a way to lob a shovel at a drone, but it's some kind of radio thingy I don't understand https://www.droneshield.com/dronegun-tactical23:12
lotuspsychjesarnold: sounds to me  like an electrical 'pinch' making some kind of shortcut23:13
sarnoldI have to wonder if it works only with certain vendors23:14
lotuspsychjeits more a frequency thing23:14
lotuspsychjedisable the connection that stop it to fly23:14
jeremy31lotuspsychje: I thought you were going to sleep?23:17
lotuspsychjeno i was sleeping jeremy31 , but too hot23:18
jeremy31lotuspsychje: air conditioning is worth every penny23:20
lotuspsychjeyeah i keep telling myself to buy an AC every year23:20
lotuspsychjebut in belgium we arent used for these temps23:21
lotuspsychjeusually its 3 weeks warm, then rainy23:21
lotuspsychjei want one of those dyson air purifiers, but 600 euro23:22
jeremy31lotuspsychje: join ##linuxmint and see if you can move in with Butterfly for the hot days23:22
lotuspsychjejeremy31: i was looking at this lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk7CsCRz8Ns23:23
jeremy31lotuspsychje: that doesn't do air conditioning23:24
sarnoldlotuspsychje: I've got one of these, it was not 600 eur :) https://camelcamelcamel.com/Coway-AP-1512HH-Mighty-Purifier-True/product/B00BTKAPUU23:25
