BluesKajHi folks11:29

JimBuntuwow, that's an old bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/313514         It sounds very interesting, but I haven't read enough to figure out exactly how this could even be fixed and be useful too.11:39
ubot5Ubuntu bug 313514 in xorg-server (Ubuntu) "MASTER: evdev driver ignores keycodes > 255" [Wishlist,Invalid]11:39
lotuspsychjeJimBuntu: daniel needs new info, as he probably saw too much discussion on it instead of real bug info11:40

lotuspsychjehey Peanut16:59
PeanutHey - just read the topic, this is probably also the wrong place ;-)17:00
lotuspsychjemaybe volunteers have experiences with compiling here, feel free to discuss17:00
lotuspsychjeeverything ubuntu related here Peanut17:00
PeanutOh, I thought this was 'non-support' questions.17:00
PeanutAnyway, here goes:17:00
PeanutHi folks - I've built the 'audacious' and 'audacious' plugins from source (apt source audacious, apply a small patch, dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc, sudo dpkg -i). This results in two packages: audacious, and audacious-plugins. Both with the same version number as the currently released. When I apt-update, it always wants to update audacious-plugins, and I don't understand why?17:01
PeanutSo compiling and building the package works fine, my question is why apt prefers the repository version for the one, but is happy with the local build for the other package.17:01
pragmaticenigmaPeanut: If you're building from source, you will need to uninstall the application from apt first. Apt does not track what you install, also, when you manually install things (unless you directed it otherwise) they usually go into /usr/local/ which apt does not monitor17:21
pragmaticenigmaotherwise, in your build configuration file, you would need to identify a unique version number that is higher than the version supplied by apt17:22
Peanutpragmaticenigma: Thanks for your reply. This build didn't go into /usr/local/, because I used the Debian/Ubuntu tools to make a proper package. The thing that puzzles me is that the system is happy with the audacious package, but wants to replace the audacious-plugins package, despite each having the same version as in the repository.17:52
