zeropatienceevery problems represents days of research to resolve, but i am no longer interested02:37
zeropatienceall issues known for years, only workarounds in suppport threads where nobody can agree02:38
zeropatienceand then solutions involve following many command and editing or creating files, dealing with permission hell02:39

OerHeksjust some more info about *what* hardware would save the rant02:50
OvenWerksit would help if they said why they want to switch from whatever they are using now (and tell us what that is). and define all of these things they are talking about. Some idea of their workflow would also help.03:01
OvenWerkshowever, my reply at this time, is: if what you have works, keep using it.03:02
Eickmeyer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯03:49
EickmeyerIf all they're going to do is come in here and complain with zero solutions, they can just get out. I couldn't care less.03:49

WynnHaynesHello! I am having some issues getting Ardour to record external MIDI input using the JACK transport.11:30
WynnHaynesIf I, for example, change the transport to Internal, then I can get it to record, but, of course, the timing is then out of sync11:30
WynnHaynesI am using Ubuntu Studio 19.04 and in order for everything to work so far (I'm using DrumGizmo for one of my inputs) I had to disable the "auto-input11:31
WynnHaynes... option in the Monitoring section of properties11:31
WynnHaynesWhat happens is that I start to record, there is immediately an XRUN, and the track stops recording with barely any data put down11:32
WynnHaynesIf I don't use the JACK transport, however, it records fine.11:32
WynnHaynesSo, I'm not really sure what is wrong with JACK here. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could troubleshoot this?11:32
WynnHaynesI just checked. It's with any external JACK input, not just with DrumGizmo. I tried an input from Qsynth directly into an Ardour track with the JACK transport activated, and it immediately stops recording when I hit "Play"11:33
WynnHaynesI'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the MIDI input is all from Qtractor.11:40
WynnHaynesCould part of the problem be the Ubuntu Studio Controls?12:09
WynnHaynesI've done some looking around and it seems that when I hit record, I get about 42 XRUNS at once12:09
WynnHaynesmy buffer was at 1024 and then I moved it down to 25612:10
OvenWerksWynnHaynes: a buffer size of 256 should not be a problem.14:58
OvenWerksI am just trying to wrap my head around what you are doing. It seems you are running drum gizmo as an application? Is there a reason not to use a plugin right in Ardour?14:59
OvenWerksYou are also running both ardour and qtracktor?15:00
OvenWerksWhich one is master?15:02
WynnHaynesArdour is master15:58
WynnHaynesSorry, I was out for a while :)15:58
WynnHaynesYes, I am running DG through Calf, because I thought the problem (originally) was MIDI input15:58
WynnHaynesso I decided to run my MIDI (from Qtractor) through Drum Gizmo via Carla (not Calf, typo) and then output the audio to an Audio track in Ardour15:59
WynnHaynesDoes that make sense?15:59
WynnHaynesOvenWerks would it be better to make JACK master?16:05
WynnHaynesI found that the problem is Qtractor, not Ardour16:17
WynnHaynesI first tried making Qtractor slave and there was still an issue16:18
WynnHaynesBut, I decided that I will take the MIDI file from Qtractor and load it up in another external program like MUSE16:18
WynnHaynesSo, I loaded it in Muse and, lo and behold, Ardour recorded it without complaint16:18
WynnHaynesWell, I solved the problem. It went along with what you asked, OvenWerks. For Ardour to record from Qtractor, Qtractor had to be set as Master and Ardour slave.16:41
WynnHaynesThen it worked!16:41
WynnHaynesThanks a lot for the input :)16:41
WynnHaynesGoodbye for now16:42
Mark88after upgrading to 16.04 (trying to get to 18.04) my desktop boots into xfce however when I click on file manager it returnes me with my old background and the whole desktop acts like unity or kind of a xfce-unity cross. anyone know how to fix this?16:53
EickmeyerMark88: I don't have much time right now to walk you through this, but try #xubuntu or #ubuntu since it's not an Ubuntu Studio-specific issue.17:00
Mark88this is an ubuntu studio issue....thanys what I'm using17:03
Mark88I should have said studio 16.04, my bad17:04
Eickmeyer[m]Ubuntu Studio Is Ubuntu, not a derivitive. Same with Xubuntu as they are just Ubuntu with Xfce. Please follow my advice, thanks.17:06
Javier5Hello everyone. I am having some problems with a couple of the x42 midi plugins: "MIDI CC Map" and MIDI CC Scale" do not seem to be working. I don't get any error in Carla and the midi input led does not activate and of course there is no midi output, I double checked with "MIDI Monitor for Jack". Any suggestions?19:31
