acuI run Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop with Englightenment Desktop Environmnent- all is good - but I do not see any tool to connect to bluetooth devices - strangely enough - the bluetooth keyboard and mouse works right away (I have them running before on GNOME), however my HEADPHONE bluetooth is not connected - and I do not know or see00:15
sarnoldacu: try installing the blueman package00:22
acusarnold - thanks, I installed it - strangely I do not see any application with this name00:24
acuyeh - it seem gnome-menus got updated - not Enlightenment though00:25
sarnoldtry blueman-applet or blueman-manager00:25
Sven_vBwhen a program supports ALSA and ESD, will it also work with PulseAudio?00:44
cibywhen i put ubuntu in supsend or hibernate and try to start it back up the screen is blank. how do i stop this00:48
Sven_vBciby, do you mean it is black until you move the cursor or press a key?00:49
Sven_vBor does it just take too long time until stuff is shown again?00:49
sarnoldSven_vB: probably the app in question won't also support pulseaudio unless they say they do00:50
cibyits blank no matter what i do. i have to turn my computer off entirely to make it go back to normal00:51
Sven_vBciby, how long did you wait for it to revive?00:53
cibyprobably a couple of minutes00:53
Sven_vBciby, can you login via SSH while it is in that state and check the syslog? also xrandr. maybe the virtual screen just resized to 0x0 pixels, then you could use xrandr to set a useful resolution.00:54
cibywhat is ssh00:54
Sven_vBSSH allows to remotely control a computer via network.00:54
cibydoesnt sound like something i can do00:55
sarnoldjust the one computer then?00:56
Sven_vByou could try and read the syslog after reboot then. it's a bit more cumbersome but probably your best approach if you have no 2nd computer available.00:57
cibyidk this stuff00:57
cibyi only have this computer00:57
cibywhats syslog how do i read it00:58
cibyin case this is important. what command should i be using anyway. ive been trying it with "systemctl suspend" i think01:00
Sven_vBsounds like you know about terminals, that's good. :) then you can read the syslog with: less -S +G /var/log/syslog01:03
cibywoah look at all that stuff i cant make sense of01:05
sarnoldyou can pastebin the thing if you want, someone will probably be able to give it a look01:07
cibybut how will i do it when the screen is blank01:08
Sven_vBciby, you should calibrate the clock time, then note the time before you suspend, wait a few minutes, note the time again, make it wake up, give it about 10 min to revive.01:10
Sven_vBthen hard reboot and check what was in the log around the time of revive.01:10
Sven_vB[…before you suspend,] +suspend,+ [wait a few…]01:11
sarnoldciby: does your machine work when you reboot it?01:13
cibyyeah, the computer acts like it working normally. its just the screen thats blank.01:14

blackswanhi. i'm using ukuu --install-latest from https://github.com/teejee2008/ukuu but one of my machines needs the wl  module for its broadcom wireless card, which is not included in the 5.2 kernel (it was in 5.0). if somebody could provide me with a pointer to where i might find an apt repository that contains a package with this module in it, i would be muchly appreciative, as i would really not like to screw around with compiling it mysel02:53
blackswanin this particular instance for reasons.02:53
Bashing-om!info bcmwl-kernel-source disco03:03

Bashing-omblackswan: ^^ bcmwl-kernel-source insyalled ?03:04
blackswanyes03:05
blackswanlet me clarify the problem: on this laptop, i used ukuu --install-latest after installing ubuntu mate 18.04.2.03:06
blackswani may have run it a couple of times, i don't remember, there might have been an error the first time.03:07
blackswanat any rate, i ended up with three kernels installed, the original one, a 5.0 kernel that sees the wifi chip and uses the wl module, and a 5.2 kernel that does not load any driver for it.03:08
blackswanso i am trying to figure out what to do to get the wifi working with the 5.2 kernel with the least amount of work, for a definition of work that might possibly be what you expect.03:10
blackswanmight possibly *not* be, i meant.03:10
Bashing-om blackswan: I may wish to help .. but that is the limit of my knowledge - no BCM experience.03:11
blackswani guess the problem is that the bcmwl-kernel-source package doesn't like the 5.2 kernel and so it doesn't get compiled?03:14
blackswani haven't delved into the intricacies of dkms and ukuu yet03:15
Bashing-omblackswan: If no one else here reponds - chilli555 is on ubuntuforums at this time - He is the one I am most aware of with these skills.03:18

lotuspsychjeffjc: you have a bug url?14:33

ffjcioria: yes14:43
ioriaffjc, can you please try to install xterm and test ?14:43
ffjcioria: sure14:43
ikanoboriffjc: 'random' hangs and such are often related to things like disk io or other types of load so you could take a look at that through tooling like iostat or others.14:43
ikanoboriOr are they repeatable on every command?14:44
ffjcioria: can't repeat the hanging in xterm14:46
ioriaffjc,  i see14:46
ffjcIkanobori: it's definitly not repeatable14:46
leftyfbkapilp_: sudo lsof -i :830014:47

ffjclotuspychje: pron=problem (ie hanging) sorry14:51

lotuspsychjecoz_: pretty common in dmesg those mitigation warnings15:04
lotuspsychjeffjc: did you try to create another user yet, and see if you can reproduce that?15:06
ffjclotuspychje: I should have thought of that15:06

pleasemancuriosity question: coming back to ubuntu after a while, didn't like natural scrolling for touchpad, tried to change it in gui but didn't work, wouldn't change. Had to use gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad natural-scroll false. Why isn't the gui module working? Is this general issue or just something quirky in my setup?19:48
oeriirc there is a difference between xorg-x11-drv-synaptics and xorg-x11-drv-libinput  driver, for natural scrolling19:52
pleasemanOkay. Good job I can search for commands I need then :)19:54
oernatural scrolling setting in 2 places? i am not on a laptop now .. https://i.stack.imgur.com/Z1Kkx.png19:54
pleasemanYeah it obviously works with cmd19:55
pleasemanBut it's supposed to work via a control panel module on the desktop19:56
pleasemanthat doesn't eem to work19:56
pleasemanI've changed back and forth a couple of times with cms and that works fine, but I guess new users will not look for cmd answers, so this probably needs fixing if it's a general isue19:57
pleasemancmd I meant (typo)19:57
pleasemanI guess most people will like natural scrolling and won't want to turn it off so it may not be a big issue, I guess19:58
donalsdHi, I had previously installed java 11, but I reverted to java 8. Although I changed the JAVA_HOME in bash_profile, I still get the location of the old java 11 installation in JAVA_HOME. I can see that jdk.sh still points to java 11, but I didn't create it so maybe it has to be updated by something else and not me?20:02

oer!java20:10
ubottuTo just use java you need a "Java Runtime Environment" (JRE) and/or a browser plugin. If that is not sufficient you will need a "Java Development Kit" (JDK) aka "Software  Development Kit" (SDK).  Please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Java about how to install one of three current implementations.20:10

Macmo920Any reason why this is happening?22:02
TJ-Macmo920: what kernel version is that?22:07
Macmo920TJ- Linux server1 4.15.0-60-generic #67-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 22 16:55:30 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux22:11

someSven_vB: was part of system start up...but still an unknown process that wasnt there before. not running as root22:12
Macmo920Thanks!22:12
someSven_vB: it was running with a non rooted user acct22:13
TJ-Macmo920: looks like it could be a regression since -59 ... there's a patch added to -60 specifically to address another issue with ip_do_fragment() "ipv4: ip_do_fragment: Preserve skb_iif during fragmentation" ... are you able to try the older kernel ?22:18
TJ-Macmo920: the changes in -60 are tracked in bug #183845922:18

TJ-Macmo920: please try with the older kernel and if it is OK report a new bug against "linux" and mention the report above - in the title use "Regression: 4.15.0-60.67 ip_do_fragment() PANIC in IRQ"22:21
Aavar_pragmaticenigma, I do not know. Do you mean windows or other linux?22:21

=== coffeeguy is now known as zenguy
