viewer|91I have a problem with plasma-discover it's hangs and never does anything at checking for updates...I launched it from konsole and got a few error messages04:00
viewer|91Uploaded file: https://uploads.kiwiirc.com/files/e4beb9842dacbbe64d191a1093eb2666/pasted.txt04:01
viewer|91I read that there was a bug with discover on reddit...so I was hoping someone here might be able to help...and that any of this does04:02
valorieviewer|91: how old a Kubuntu version are you running?04:07
valorieI remember such problems in the past04:07
valoriebut it works great these days in 19.0404:07

valorieaha, I have backports so newer versions04:09
valorieOperating System: Kubuntu 19.0404:09
valorieKDE Plasma Version: 5.16.504:09
valorieKDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.004:09
valorieQt Version: 5.12.204:09
valorieKernel Version: 5.0.0-27-generic04:09
valorieOS Type: 64-bit04:10
valorieProcessors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz04:10
valorieMemory: 31.4 GiB of RAM04:10
valorieI think backports are always a good idea04:10
viewer|91you have a higher plasma version ...otherwise i think the rest of mine are more up to date04:11
valoriewell, discover is part of plasma04:12
viewer|91any suggestions?04:12
valorieso if you want a newer version, you can add the backports ppa04:12
valorieand if you don't like it, you can ppa-purge04:12
valorie!ppa-purge04:12
ubottuTo disable a PPA from your sources and revert your packages back to default Ubuntu packages, install ppa-purge and use the command: « sudo ppa-purge ppa:<repository-name>/<subdirectory> » – For more information, see http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/remove-ppa-repositories-via-command.html04:12
valorie!backports04:12
ubottuIf new updated packages are built for an application, they may go into Kubuntu Backports, which is one of the official Kubuntu PPAs. See https://community.kde.org/Kubuntu/PPAs for more information.04:12
valorieso that's what I suggest, since you can easily remove it if you don't like it04:13
viewer|91ok adding the repositories04:16
valoriecool04:18
viewer|91thanks....doing an upgrade....so i prob need to shut down firefox...thanks again...later04:19

jubo2kdewallet suddenly started to ask for a password (which was never set)08:03
jubo2The usual resetting of the kdewallet by deletion and making a new default wallet?08:03
lordievaderDid you happen to change your login password?08:21
muhahawhere are stored apt sources for application installed by Discovery?08:38
TomyWorkI have krunner plugins implemented using https://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/python-kde4. That package is not present in 18.04 bionic beaver. What do I use instead?08:38
lordievadermuhaha: I suppose in the default directory `/etc/apt/sources.list.d/`08:38
TomyWorkmuhaha, same as for everything that installs packages08:39
muhahano, I installed atom and chromium its empty...08:39
muhaha*and08:39
muhahathats why I asking08:39
jubo2lordievader: nope. nothing changed... except I did an rsync but that did not touch the dot-directories08:40
TomyWorkmuhaha, that directory contains the apt sources. you're just using "apt sources" wrong. it's referring to the places apt downloads packages from, it does NOT refer to source code for packages08:41
muhaha@TomyWork of course. I know...08:41
TomyWorksource code for packages is not usually downloaded with the package. you download that with the commant "apt-get source"08:41
muhahathere is no deb repository for atom nor chromium in sources.list or sources.list.d08:42
muhahanor ppa08:42
TomyWorkmaybe it's was installed via snap, not apt?08:43
muhahamaybe is installed from snap?08:43
TomyWork!xy08:43
ubottuThe XY problem is when you need to do X, and you think you can use Y to do X, so you ask about how to do Y, when what you really should do is state what your X problem is. There may be a Z solution that is even better than Y, but nobody can suggest it if X is never mentioned.08:43
TomyWorkyou should have asked for your problem, not for the problem with your solution to your problem08:44
lordievaderThe package `chromium-browser` is available in `universe`.08:44
lordievaderWon't be surprised if atom is also in there.08:44
muhahain latest version? lol08:44
TomyWorkatom isn't terribly secure no matter what version, so who needs the latest version?08:44
* lordievader checked an 18.04 vm08:44
TomyWorkbrowser packages used to be updated to latest, because of security issues, but that might be different now that ubuntu is using snap for all kinds of things08:46
muhahait is not https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=default&section=all&arch=any&keywords=atom&searchon=names,08:46
muhahaI have to learn snap ...08:46
TomyWorkthe firefox package is at 69.0+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 though08:46
TomyWorkuse that, it's the better browser anyway08:46
TomyWorkchromium-browser is at 76.0.3809.100-0ubuntu0.18.04.1, btw08:47
lordievaderVersion of chromium available here is 76.0.3809.100-0ubuntu0.18.04.1, not the latest. But not terribly far behind.08:47
lordievaderTomyWork: You beat me to the punch ;)08:48
TomyWorkkeep in mind that the chromium project keeps multiple stable versions08:48
muhahaI am trying to integrate plasma and chromium ( Failed to connect to the native host. ) Any idea? externsion and package is installed. Thanks10:01
RikMillsmuhaha: what release?10:03
muhahaof what? disco and  77.0.3865.75 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)10:04
RikMillsI don't belive plasma-browser-integration can work with chromium snap builds at the moment10:07
muhahaIs there any other stable repository for chromium with some fresh versions?10:08
lordievaderThe version from apt might not have this problem?10:11
muhahaits slightly behind https://packages.ubuntu.com/disco/chromium-browser10:24
muhahahere it is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/174107410:29
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1741074 in chromium-browser (Ubuntu) "[snap] chrome-gnome-shell extension fails to detect native host connector" [Medium,Triaged]10:29
TomyWorkso the thing, that i told you is probably not necessary, doesn't work with the other thing you didn't mention before. you see a pattern? :)10:51

IrcsomeBot<Shreddies> Hi.Have any of you used an Intel external hard drive with dual boot Kubuntu/Windows? It's my 1st time buying an external hard drive and I'm confused by all the choices. Not sure if this one even is an external hard drive, it looks strange https://www.webhallen.com/se/product/292378-Intel-660P-SSD-M-2-PCIe-3-0-x4-NVMe-3D-NAND-QLC-1TB  thanks!17:46
diogenes_it's PCI Express 3.0 x4 (NVMe) internal drive.17:49
IrcsomeBot<Shreddies> @diogenes_, Sorry I don't understand17:55
diogenes_Shreddies, that is an SSD drive that you insert into the motherboard if it has a slot for nvme.17:57
IrcsomeBot<Shreddies> Ah oh so that's why it doesn't look like an external hard drive. So it's the equivalent of a super memory USB ?17:59
diogenes_Shreddies, it's the next generation of drives that will replace spinning harddrives soon.18:01
IrcsomeBot<Shreddies> Oh ok.how do I filter out the other stuff to get an external hard drive?18:06
IrcsomeBot<Shreddies> @diogenes_, Oh ok.how do I filter out the other stuff to get an external hard drive?18:07
diogenes_Shreddies, external drives come in enclosures and connect to the pc via usb cable.18:08
