lotuspsychjegood morning to all04:25
akemlenovo_Morning lotus :)04:44
lotuspsychjemorning mate04:45
akemlenovo_I had a look in my Wifi driver sources, it's pretty obscure with parts of hexa listing and structs etc... :)04:56
akemlenovo_Some functions are small, but they have strange names with shortened names variables, they do something strange which feels like it's useless if you don't know the big plan of what's going on.05:00
akemlenovo_Little to no comments and lots of pre-defined values that are very non intuitives :X05:03
akemlenovo_I guess that if you want to hide a malware or trojan into this, it's an easy task! :P05:04
akemlenovo_Object oriented is much more simple to track.05:05

marcoagpintoI had added 700 words this month... but with minus 400 it becomes 300 :(07:31
marcoagpintoTOTAL_NEW_WORDS = TOTAL_CURRENT_WORDS - TOTAL_PREVIOUS_WORDS07:32
marcoagpintothis is how I add the number of new words to the release notes07:32
lordievaderWhat do you mean with speller? Like a spell check or something?07:38

OerHeksFedora Linux 31 Enters Beta, Says Goodbye to 32-Bit Systems ..16:09
akemlenovo_I guess soon 32b will be a thing of the past. But do you think there will be eventually 128b systems at some point?16:11
pragmaticenigmaI think you mean libraries? I thought they droped 32bit support for systems a long time ago16:11
akemlenovo_Or we would stick with 64b for eternity? :)16:12
lordcirth_There's a difference between dropping ISOs for 32bit CPUs, and dropping multilib16:12
lordcirth_Ubuntu dropped 32bit ISOs a few releases ago, and is phasing out multilib16:12
pragmaticenigmalordcirth_: mini.iso is still 32 bit16:13
OerHekshttps://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-process-for-32-bit-compatibility/1259816:13
lordcirth_No desktop or server ISO, though16:13
pragmaticenigmaWhat I'm more concerned with is were will those that wish to conntinue or require the use of 32 bit OSes turn to16:16
lordcirth_LXC containers, hopefully.16:17
lordcirth_Or similar things.16:17
pragmaticenigmawhat I prefer though is bare metal ... I know eventually the power effeciency of these units will effectively be not cost effective16:19
akemlenovo_TJ-, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1831751 There is still a leak, i reported it there - last message, should i report it somewhere else? I tried to have a look at the sources of the dkms you gave me but it's over complicated :P For now i keep it blacklisted and i use a tiny Wifi dongle instead.21:22
ubot5Launchpad bug 1831751 in linux (Ubuntu) "rtlwifi: aggressive memory leak" [High,Confirmed]21:22
jeremybakemlenovo_: can you patch the source code?  https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git/commit/drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtlwifi?id=4c3e48794dec7cb568974ba3bf2ab62b9c45ca3e21:27
TJ-akemlenovo_: sounds like more poor RTL code doesn't it?21:28
akemlenovo_jeremyb, You are fast.21:45
akemlenovo_jeremyb, i don't have the same source tree for me it's in /usr/src/rtlwifi-1.021:45
akemlenovo_But i modified it manually, i found the line to change.21:46
jeremybakemlenovo_: Not a kernel problem if you are using Larry Fingers github21:46
akemlenovoI see, i didn't know it.21:50
akemlenovoI have modified the code however i have an issue is that it does not rebuild the driver:21:51
akemlenovosudo dkms build rtlwifi/1.021:51
akemlenovoModule rtlwifi/1.0 already built for kernel 5.0.0-27-generic/421:51
jeremybBut the problem likely exists in the kernel if that commit exists21:51
jeremybsudo dkms install rtlwifi/1.0 -k $(uname -r)21:51
akemlenovoBut i've change the code so it should rebuild? also there's no "clean" or whatever like in regular makefiles.21:51
TJ-akemlenovo: dkms remove first21:52
jeremybActually you might have to do> sudo dkms uninstall rtlwifi/1.0 -k $(uname -r)21:52
jeremybTJ-: doesn't dkms remove delete the /usr/src/ directory for it?21:53
TJ-jeremyb: never21:54
TJ-it just removes the stuff under /var/dkms21:54
TJ-sorry, /var/lib/dkms/21:54
akemlenovoYeah it works after a remove, it rebuild now, thanks.21:55
akemlenovoNo i just read a bit more about the patch and the file it's in, it will change only for debug mode, the file is called debug.c and there is a global "#ifdef CONFIG_RTLWIFI_DEBUG" on the whole file, so i'm not in a debug mode afaik, the leak must be something else.21:59
