swift110friendlyGoat, hmm it would help if you put an ssd into it01:18
friendlyGoati dont have access to that unfortunately.01:18
friendlyGoatthis didnt seem to be a problem before but i've noticed it happening the past few days.01:19
Kumooljust one core?01:19
swift110could be you are using more ram than normal01:19
friendlyGoati think that could be the case due to firefox. i keep firefox open 99% of the time with a few tabs.01:19
Kumooldid you run htop, vmstat, swapinfo?01:19
Kumoolchecked all of those?01:20
friendlyGoatgoing to, one sec.01:20

Kumoolfirefox memory leaks like crazy01:20
friendlyGoatgonna take a hot minute, gotta install those commands you recommended01:20
friendlyGoatalso yeeeeah i think i saw that mentioned around before, i sure hope it aint a memory leak!01:20
Kumooldont htop, better ps -aux && vmstat && swapinfo01:20
friendlyGoatahh alright gonna do that instead then01:20
Kumooldon't worry, it probably is a memory leak, just restart firefox01:21
swift110yeah thats cool01:21
friendlyGoatalso if it helps at all my swappiness is 20 cause i've seen that recommended around and that seemed like it'd be a good fit for my 4GB of ram and 8GB of swap space.01:21
Kumool1.10ghz is worse than a phone though, so firefox should be unbearable to use (I know, my laptop is almost 1.10)01:21
swift110goodness01:22
swift110I have worse laptops01:22
swift110like I have a laptop from 2002 that has 200 mb ram01:22
Kumool:O01:22
Kumoolholy crap dude01:22
friendlyGoati got a big list of stuff running but under all of it it says swapinfo: command not found01:22
Kumoolsend that to a museum01:22
friendlyGoatalso ooooo thats old!01:22
friendlyGoati have some old computers here and there and one i run as a home server but i never checked its specs tbh01:23
Kumoolyeah, swapinfo is a freebsd command, i got confused01:23
friendlyGoatlil old thing i bought from the school nearby for 10 bucks, its from 2004, i run some discord bots and host files on it + pihole. i love my old debian dino~01:23

friendlyGoathttps://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/399860712261943296/625141649684693022/unknown.png01:29
friendlyGoatmy htop results01:29
Kumoolwell, you are using a bit of swap01:31
Kumoolswap, unless its ssd, will slow down your system01:31
friendlyGoatahhh. my swappiness is set to 20, should i change that?01:32
swift110oh cool01:33
swift110yes friendlyGoat and close those tabs01:33
Kumoolget one tab extension01:33
Kumoolits a good one01:33
Kumoolman... I hate browsers01:33
Kumoolwhy arent there any good browsers01:34
friendlyGoatgonna look into it, and what do you think my swappiness should be?01:34
Kumoolno clue!01:34
Kumool:)01:34
friendlyGoatohh i think i know a good extension for this, there was one i used to have that locked tabs i wasnt using so they werent all loaded at once01:34
Kumooloh yeah01:35
Kumoolget that01:35
Kumoolmanaging firefox is a bit of a chore01:35
friendlyGoati usually have open two email tabs, youtube, and twitter, twitter is the buggiest so that must reeeally be eating up my memory01:35
KumoolI always block javascript01:35
Kumoolyeah01:35
KumoolI open twitter and immediately close it after01:35
KumoolI have bitlbee with a #twitter_user channel01:36
swift110good idea Kumool01:36
Kumoolso no need to open twitter01:36
Kumooland bitlbee is light01:36
Kumooluse claws mail (or any really), and lower your security so you can use imap01:37
Kumoolor hell, use your phone instead01:37
Kumooluse mpv http://youtube.url/ instead of watching in browser01:37
remlineWhoa, I just looked at the manual page for mpv. Longest man page ever!01:40
Kumooland uhh, that's all of my tricks to have a somewhat pleasant experience on a potato laptop01:40
Kumoolyeah it has a lot of features01:40
Kumoolbut what you want is to configure youtube-dl so it loads the firefox cookies01:40
remlineI didn't know it could take URLs directly, that is handy (my laptop is old and slow, too)01:40
Kumooland a --mark-watched01:41
Kumoolhttps://bitbucket.org/lalalan/openurl/src/master/openurl.brc this is my wrapper for opening irc urls01:42

nikolamI installed Eiciel to set ACL permissions (wanted users to r/w folder , not everyone) but I got installed 'nautilus' with it.08:41
nikolamNow when I click to open folder on right click on Firefox downloads, I get nautilus started instead of Thunar.08:42
nikolamany way to disable nautilus starting08:42
nikolamhm seems that one visit to "Preferred applications" in Xfce control panel fix it.. I'll see.08:44
nikolamNope, it opens downloaded file in nautilus, instead of opening it in archive manager, for example..08:45
nikolamfor ta.gz downloaded in Firefox it opens it right into archiver, but .xz archive, instead to be opened in the archiver, opens as download location in nautilus08:46
diogenes_nikolam, https://i.imgur.com/Z3DCufH.png08:50
nikolamdiogenes_, good idea but I don't think it's about Firefox. It's set "always ask" for .xz, but it doesn't ask. I think nautilus forced itself to be default opener, somewhere else in the user profile09:00
diogenes_nikolam, look in dconf-editor09:01
diogenes_file-chooser or something.09:02
nikolamI uninstalled nautilus and it is now. Seems that nautilus and it's addons are actualy not needed for eiciel to work09:05
nikolamok09:06
nikolambut I solved ACL on folder for users with " sudo setfacl -m "g:users:rw" /share " , anyway09:06
nikolambut I still don't get right permissiond on /share forlder as member of "users" group.maybe after logoff/logon.09:07
jarnosI wonder, if Gnome keyring does work with chromium-browser in Xubuntu (18.04)? Reference: https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/483522/11118112:33
jarnosAnyway, if I do automatic login, some password is asked (first time) unless I use --password-store=basic.12:34
jarnosBut is it normal that chromium-browser changes '~/.config/chromium/Default/Login Data' even if '--password-store=basic' is not used in Xubuntu?12:36
swift110good morning13:25
svargasHi guys, I'm trouble with a keyboard layouts on Xubuntu 18.04. If I use multiple keyboard layouts and switch between them default keyboard shortcuts don't work in vs code e.g., copy line down -- shift + control + alt + down arrow. When only using the system layout shortcuts work fine. I suspect there may be a limit on the number of key combinations permitted with input mode. Any ideas how to get this working? Many thanks14:22
svargas+ I've just tested this. Through xfce4-keyboard-settings -- using multiple keyboard layouts the maximum keys in combination is 3, using the system layout has no limitation14:24
Kumooluse the system layout then14:28
svargasthanks @Kumul. Yes, that's what I'm doing at the moment but it isn't ideal as I need other layout to type in other (human) languages14:31
Kumoolsvargas: this is in my ~/.xprofile setxkbmap -model latitude -layout us,us -variant dvorak-alt-intl,intl -option grp:shift_caps_toggle,grp_led:num,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp14:47
Kumoolshift_caps_toggle works well enough14:47
Kumoolbut I don't have a complicated setup14:47
Kumoolatm i switched from xfce though14:47
svargasthanks for that. I'll give it a try14:47
Kumoolyou just need to add more layouts and variants, and change the model to your specific keyboard14:57
Kumoolselect system on keyboard settings14:58
svargasThanks. That's how I had it configured. With more layouts I get the problem of only combinations of 3 keys working. I have to go back to the system keyboard layout to make key combinations of 4 or more to work15:01
svargasI've been having to change to system layout when I need to change languages which isn't ideal15:02
Kumoolwhat languages?15:05
Kumoolusually intl is enough for tildes and so on15:05
Kumoolunless you gotta deal with asian languages15:05
KumoolAnyway, i've never gone farther than that, hopefully someone else can help you15:06
recon_dskfuck EFI !!!!!18:23
recon_dskwell, fuck this, back to square one and refucking install18:33
recon_dskmore and more windows like every year18:34
recon_dskgot a problem, reinstall18:35
lenzeorI have a question:20:54
lenzeorWhy the mouse?20:54
gnrplenzeor: Guess you have to ask that more in the #xfce channel?20:56
