IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Hi. I am asking you this question, but it's not an Issue I experienced on Kubuntu. … Do you have some advices to reduce memory usage on Kubuntu? When I start my pc there are at least 800-900Mb of RAM used by processes and services. How can I reduce this number?13:12
tomreynFranzpow: if that's not an issue you experience on kubuntu, then why do you ask it here?13:20
tomreyni don't think there's much you can do about the basic RAM requirements, this is basically normal for a current desktop system. ubuntu's system requirements are 4 GB minimum, i guess you could say the same for kubuntu (but have not checked what is actually written about this - you probably should)13:22
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, I thought that someone could help me here. I have 4GBs of RAM on my quadcore Celeron and Ubuntu requires - at least on my system - more 300mb of RAM13:27
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I think that Kubuntu is lighter, in fact, it works better and it's smoother on my notebook than Ubuntu13:28
tomreynthe kernel takes some hundred MB, then you have the graphical desktop and services, and if ram is 'shared' with a GPU then it also takes another few hundred MB13:31
tomreynso you basically end up with 1 GB allocated without running anything. this may be a little less on kubuntu than on ubuntu, but probably not thaaat much13:32
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I understand. I have integrated graphics.. So may be the case. … Personally I switched to kubuntu because Plasma Runs smoother on my desktop thank GNOME13:33
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Btw are Updates to 19.10 still not avaible? I  see nothing on discover When I check for new updates13:35
tomreyncool. i'm not sure which versions you tried but gnome-shell in 18.04 has some performance issues, those are more contained in 19.10, but even then kubuntu may still have a smaller footprint.13:35
tomreynyou can set this alias    alias check19.10="wget -qO- http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release | grep -q '^Dist: eoan$' && echo 'Upgrade to 19.10 is now available' || echo 'Upgrade to 19.10 is not available, yet.'"13:35
tomreynand then run    check19.1013:35
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, I used Ubuntu 19.04 then I switched to Kubuntu13:35
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, I am talking about security updates and program updates. I have already updated to 19.10 from 19.04. Is this command for that?13:36
tomreynupgrades to 19.10 are not available, yet, but will be enabled soon. maybe just try again in a week13:36
tomreynthe command i just posted is for checking whether the 19.10 upgrade is available, yet13:37
tomreynyou can also run this:  do-release-upgrade -c13:37
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Oh ok. I was asking, instead, if there are updates available right now to packages etc.. Because I am worried that I cannot see any update on discover. Maybe you remember that I updated to 19.10 version 'not in the right way' so I was wondering if everything was fine adding the right repos.13:39
tomreynyou can run this and post the url, so we can check together: sudo /bin/true && cat &>/tmp/aptlog < <(sudo apt-get -y update 2>&1; apt-cache policy 2>&1; sudo apt-get -syV full-upgrade 2>&1;); nc termbin.com 9999 </tmp/aptlog && rm /tmp/aptlog13:42
tomreynthis collects some information from apt, but does not actually change anything13:42
tomreynFranzpow: ^13:45
BluesKajtomreyn, what's the problem with the 19.10 sources ?13:46
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> thank you! I will check it in a whike13:46
tomreynBluesKaj: none in general, but maybe on Franzpow's system since they edited sources.list manually to "upgrade" from 19.04 to 19.10, if i recall correctly.13:47
tomreynalso ppa's and other 3rd party repos may need massaging13:47
=== va3dbj_away is now known as va3dbj
BluesKajtomreyn, I sed'd my sources.list to focal then updated and upgraded, and changed my/etc/hosts and hostnames files13:57
BluesKajthat method has become a habit since joining "Kubuntu Testers"13:59
IrcsomeBot<RikMills> @Franzpow, Updates have a mandatory 7 days minimum in the proposed pocket for validation, so you won't see many allowed through for a while after 19.10 release14:04
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @RikMills, Oh I understand.14:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn> you can run this and post the url, so we can check together: sudo /bin/true && cat &>/tmp/aptlog < <(sudo apt-get -y update 2>&1; apt-cache policy 2>&1; sudo apt-get -syV full-upgrade 2, https://termbin.com/d49f14:07
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> this was the result14:07
tomreynBluesKaj: that's probably fine someone willing to do testing like you, and especially so during early development of a new release where the 'upgrade' introduces basically no differences. but i guess we don't recommend editing sources.list for the average user, or they'll miss / loose the secret sauce that comes with do-release-upgrade's14:10
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, The secret Sauce? 😳14:11
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Now I am curious. I never Updated ubuntu, this is the first time I did it14:12
tomreynFranzpow: do-release-upgrader downloads some scripts from the web when it carries out the upgrade. these scripts are suually for cleaning up the mess when you have changes such as switching from unity to gnome-shell as the default desktop.14:14
tomreynabout what you posted to termbin.com: have a look at it, there are warnings in it14:15
tomreynwhich tell you what needs to be done14:15
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, I don't understand what to do. When I click on this link there's a bug on telegram desktop that opens wine browser endlessly and I am forced  to use the task manager.  … If I copy the link on my browser I see the home page of termbin. I don't know what to do, I also opened the file that I posted here to you and there are a lot of errors that I don't know what they mean..14:23
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am sorry for my ignorance14:23

IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> I am not using windows version, wine keeps popping up whenever I click on a link on the telegram that14:33
OerHeksthat prop telegram runs on wine, and i have no clue about wine14:34

IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, I have no problems to open this one. It is this one:* … http://termbin.com … to give me problems14:40
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> @tomreyn, Yep, I have no idea on what to do. Btw I will join you on IRC14:41
tomreynwell that's their homepage, not the link you posted.14:41
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Yeah. That's the homepage I know14:41
tomreynso look at https://termbin.com/d49f with the /d49f in the end14:42
FranzoI opened it on my browser and I can see a bunch of errors that  I can not understand14:43
FranzoBecause I am a noob here14:43
tomreynthose "W: ..." lines are warnings, you need to make all of them go away14:43
tomreynto do so, you need to sudoedit the file at /etc/apt/sources.list14:44
tomreynthis file defines where apt, the software installer / updater, gets its updates from14:45
FranzoOh. Maybe I understand. I will try to edit it14:45
tomreynthese warnings are about repetitions in your configuration file. apparently there are the same entries in lines 36 and 60 of this file, for example14:45
tomreynW: L'obiettivo Packages (partner/binary-amd64/Packages) è configurato molteplici volte in /etc/apt/sources.list:36 e /etc/apt/sources.list:6014:45
tomreyn^ this says so at least14:46
IrcsomeBot<Franzpow> Maybe I made some errors yesterday trying to configure repositories14:46
tomreynother warnings messages refer to other lines, so make sure you go through all of this file and end up with out duplicates. or you could just overwrite all of what you have by a fresh copy of the file:14:47
ubottuThe packages in Kubuntu are divided into various sections. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu - See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RecommendedSources for the recommended way to set up your repositories14:47
IrcsomeBotFrankGroer was added by: FrankGroer14:47
tomreyni'm not sure how up to date this is but here's a kubuntu (graphical interface) way to managing this sources.list file: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu14:50
tomreynbut actually editing the file is probably the better approach, the GUI may not be able to remove all of the duplicates.14:51
FranzoI opened sources.list But I don't find duplicates. I am sorry I am not able to do this14:58
tomreynFranzo: you got the line numbers in those messages, have you tried to compare those line pairs?15:08
tomreynalso welcome to irc15:08
tomreynyour other option remains to make backups (you need to do this anyways) and to install a fresh copy.15:09

tomreynyou probably want use ONE of it.archive.ubuntu.com and cz.archive.ubuntu.com, not both.16:44
tomreynso pick one of the two and remove all references to it off your sources.list file.16:44
FranzoOh.. so I have to edit it in /var/lib/dpkg ?16:44

tomreynFranzo: makes sense to me, since you appear to be in italy.16:50

Franzotomreyn: I see that on discover these updates are activated17:06

VieiraHi, could you help me how to find the intel graphic card repository, i need to update the driver, but there is no repository and i don't now where to find it23:35
valorieVieira: run ubuntu-drivers and it will find the driver you need23:37
valorieeasiest way to do that is in krunner: alt+space23:38
valorieor alt+ F423:38
valorieerr, alt + f223:38
Vieiraits a 3rd generation intel driver, but iI don't find any updated driver23:38
valorief4 closes the window23:39
valorieI found this in askubuntu: The Intel graphics driver is part of the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver package, which is installed on all Ubuntu systems by default. And since it isn't a proprietary driver package, it doesn't show up in jockey (aka the Hardware Drivers application).23:40
valorieno longer called jockey afaik23:40
tomreynthere won't be updates for it, other than !LTSE23:40
tomreynand on newer kubuntu releases, of course23:41
tomreynrather focus on what's not working and try to fix / work around it23:41
valorieanother suggestion is to install mesa-utils23:41
valoriehowever I think that is installed by default23:42
valoriesudo apt-get install mesa-utils23:42
Vieirai have tried to update by the default repository, but it says that its a broken package23:43

tomreynwhat would "update by the default repository" look like, in a command line, if you can tell?23:47
Vieiraxorg-video-abi23 and xserver-xorg-core23:47
Vieiraare the missing dependecies23:47
tomreyni think you did something nasty, installed a package from ... somewhere23:48
tomreynyou can gather some info on apt's state and share it with us:23:48

tomreynwhich "xorg repositor" would that be?23:52
Vieirahttp://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/intel-graphics-updates/ubuntu bionic InRelease23:52
Vieiraits said that updating form this repository its not safe23:53
Vieiraand that there is no file released there23:53
tomreyn<Vieira> i didn't have any unofficial repository23:53
tomreynVieira: which kubuntu version are you running?23:53
